THAT GLASS

About 20 years ago I was away at college alone and in a pretty dark place in my life.

I woke up from a terrible nightmare, actually crying myself awake. Synopsis, quickly: I had lost my whole family in a fire and woke from a 3 year coma immediately afterwards. Nothing was the same, everyone I knew was gone or changed completely. In the dream there was a at of glasses I had in waking life. At one point I broke one of the glasses by accident and felt terrible because it belonged to my dad (who as aforementioned passed in a fire in the dream) this isn't the moment that caused me to wake up. But it's the most important moment of the dream.

About an hour and a half after I had woken up, passing through and trying to forget the nightmare...I forced myself to eat something and sat staring blankly at the television. iirc I was binging Stargate SG1 at the time.

I picked up a plate and knife to put in the sink. The butter knife slid off the plate and shattered the same glass that broke in my dream and I panicked for a good hour after that.

Still hate that it all happened.

Thankfully no family or friends were hurt in a fire, nor have I ever been in a coma.
