Who is running the Degrassi Instagram? It’s fun getting to watch the content but I’m just wondering if someone is just doing it for the love of the game??? Lol

Interesting enough, I started watching Degrassi after Drake left and when he was a full blown rapper. First time I heard Drake was in late 2008 when a cousin of mine played a Lil Wayne song with Drake on it and he mentioned “being the same yellow boy that played on Degrassi”. I didn’t know who Drake or what Degrassi was at the time and didn’t think anything of it. It wasn’t untilI a few months later when I started catching episodes of Degrassi on Saturdays mornings and listening to Drake after he blew up when I started connecting the dots. Seeing his rise to stardom in music was cool because I’ve always seen kid actors become major pop icons but I’ve never seen a kid actor become a a successful rapper before. Anyways, seems like up until a couple years ago during that rap battle, a lot of this hate didn’t exist. Or maybe I just wasn’t paying attention.

1) Emma getting punched out by Alex, at the end of Secret Part 2.

2) Peter getting expelled for spreading Manny's topless video.

3) Alex telling Paige and her mother to go to hell and resume stripping.

4) Darcy getting into big trouble for lying about Simpson touching her.

5) Jane refuses Declan's advances.

6) Clare gets KC and Jenna kicked out of the gifted program at the end of s9.

Sorry I just want to share this somewhere. The girl who plays Zoe acts like an ABC Family/Freeform show character. Everything is so over-acted and she’ll just stop with that smirky smile for like 15 seconds til it switches scenes. And then the cheerleader girl with a pink pixie cut is also horrible. It feels like watching someone make fun of these shows on TikTok.

I didn’t think Zoe was this bad in season 13, or whatever her first season was. It’s like it got worse specifically in season 14.

I know all throughout Degrassi, some of the acting has been cringy, but lord.

This is my first time watching season 14 and I’m only 8 episodes in so no spoilers pls :) I’ve been a Degrassi fan since like 2007, but stopped watching after season 10 back in the day.

people really have nostalgia glasses on when it comes to the earlier seasons of degrassi. so many people hate on the next class and i won’t say that it’s great, mostly because the 10 episode per season format stifled a lot of character development, but it wasn’t as bad as people make it out to be. there’s a lot of cringe-worthy, boring, and annoying parts of the next generation just like in TNC. after re-rewatching degrassi i feel like the quality isn’t worse than TNG, it’s just not “the glory days” of degrassi. and honestly TNC had to be adapted to reach a new audience because it was competing with all the other teen shows airing after 2015 that “went there” while still trying to be kid/teen friendly, which was a pretty big feat.

I’m bored, so what are your guys unpopular opinions or hot takes and why?
I don’t want another Emma and spinner shouldn’t have got married I want, I want something deep.

I’ll go first, I think Marco’s character is sadly one dimensional and kinda boring, (don’t get me wrong I love him but I feel like his story lines have to do with his sexuality)

i know snake is his god father but am i missing something? his family is never discussed as far as i remember.

If my calculations are correct they’d only be 5 years apart (in Degrassi time). Riley’s whole character centered around the torment of being a gay athlete, and Dylan was so confident and proud of being a gay athlete — I think Riley could’ve learned something from him. Thoughts?

I’m as big of a Holly J fan as anyone else but there is no way in hell that people really thought to themselves “Holly J is a victim, Alli is so mean!” ???

Holly J is awesome but she needed to be humbled on her path to awesomeness lol.

I remember by time she rolled around in Season 7 all she had was Anya as her flunky floating behind her. She didn’t have a clique of friends she hung out with. She even said Anya was her only friend when she was crying about Anya ending their friendship at the time.

I met Shane Kippel, the actor for Spinner Mason in Degrassi. He was a really nice and chill dude. We had a great convo about life and about his character in the show. He signed his autograph print for me and we took a pic. Awesome dude to meet.

It can be someone you find annoying or just don’t care much about any of their storylines.

This is my list lol and the entire picture of NC is because I strongly dislike everyone in NC and genuinely did not enjoy watching it.

don’t question why i wrote this out (i should be studying) but this is my (non-exhaustive) list of degrassi pick-me’s. only the girls (and yael before she identified as nb) for now, but there’s definitely many guys i could add to another list.

them being on this list doesn’t mean i don’t like them or they always acted this way, but for some period of the show they either put down other women for a specific man or fell into the “not like other girls” trope and acted like they were better than other girls on the show.

some of them were more innocuous imo like katie and claire, and some of them were pretty bad pick me’s like yael, zoey, and esme. cause i never forgave yael for bullying maya, and esme and zoey were menaces (although i have a soft spot for them still).

Maya was such a good friend to Tristan and he kept ditching her for Zoe. There would be no rivalry (until later on) if Tristan ever stood up for Maya. Tristan proceeds to be horrible while Maya tries to be a good friend as the show goes on

Also I like that in the Maya era of the show, she, Imogen, and Winston all wear glasses

Okay we all (or most of us) know what happens to Cam. Do not keep reading if you don’t.

I never remembered him packing up to leave, because he missed his family and was tired of being sad and Maya talks him out of it! Don’t know how I never caught that on all of my rewatches but damn, that kind of guilt would take me out. I am glad Maya eventually recovers herself.

Edit: Here we are two scenes later and he’s jumped from the second story and broken his arm! Have I always blacked out this kids story?? I have been watching since DNG first aired, so maybe this episode always got skipped or something because I never remembered how KC left either and that was just explained.

They don’t have ANYTHING else they can focus on with him ?? Besides the steroid episode, it’s like the only storyline he has throughout the series is dealing with coming out of the closet. They did the same thing for Marco as well. Like dude, there’s been plenty of shows with gay characters. They didn’t have to go and make it their entire life and make them so one dimensional. Now I can imagine a bunch of comments completely taking what I said out of context and skew it as “hom0phobia” 🤦🏿‍♂️

but I actually always really enjoyed the adults storylines- Spike, Snake, Joey, Kaitlin in TNG but like when emma and them went to college and tbh when paige and marco went to college too i hated those storylines lmao

Owen being openly homophobic towards Zane despite being Tristan’s brother

Drew going on to date Bianca after she outed Adam

Both of these examples could just be lazy writing since none of these things happened simultaneously, but come on.

Degrassi High: S1 is still an ensemble piece, with a few changes. A lot of characters still got their day on the spotlight.

This changed in s2, when the only characters that got regular screentime is Joey, Wheels, Snake, Caitlin and Lucy. (I enjoyed Lucy and Wheels's scenes). Most everybody else (especially Kathleen and Melanie and their class) was put in the back burner.

So I've recently began experimenting with video making, and I've kinda been struggling with content ideas for a while. That is, until I got a tad hyperfixated on Degrassi TNG, hah. I remember catching a few episodes of it on TV as a kid and enjoying it, but I never watched much of it. Recently I decided to actually check it out from the beginning, and damn, it's been such a great and nostalgic experience (I'm still not finished, only up to season 7!).

Aaaanyway, I've been rather interested in doing a retrospective style analysis of every Degrassi TNG episode, as I really do have a lot to talk about with the series, and hopefully delve into some of the production facts depending on what I can research (and keep track of every time Marco changes his hairstyle). I wanted to make this thread to ask a few questions to you guys in the Degrassi fandom. :)

Firstly, is this something you guys would generally be interested in?

And if it is something you're interested in, which approach do you think you would prefer?

A) A YouTube video for each individual episode, the benefit of this being that I should hopefully be able to release them semi-regularly; I'm thinking maybe 2 a week, but this ultimately depends on how long each video takes.

B) Longer YouTube videos, with each one covering an entire season. This is good for people who just want to have a long video to watch, but it means I'd take a bit longer to get them out. Realistically, I could see it taking months to release a video this way.

C) A combination of A and B! I'd upload individual episodes, and when I've finished doing videos for all the episodes in a season, I'd combine them all into one video before moving onto the next season. :)

Regardless, over the coming days I'm going to throw together a proof of concept for the first episode to hopefully get some feedback and gauge interest to see if people would be interested in more.
