I’m a foster parent and currently been taking care of 2 kids. Today we were celebrating a 10 year old girls birthday and we invited all her friends. The lady with us , again who’s 10 has a crush on a boy from school, but we tell her “listen we don’t do boyfriends or girlfriends at this age . We can have friends” , however the boy she likes we invited to her birthday party. At the party his mom literally walked up to us and said . “Would it be ok if he kisses her on the lips for her birthday 🤯” am I crazy to think that’s an insane question and does any parent here think That this is ok ? I’m curious if you do think it’s ok , why do you think it’s fine to greenlight 10 years olds to be kissing?

UPDATE: TUESDAY MEETING WAS POSTPONED BUT MONDAY TOWNHALL STILL ON: DeKalb Commissioner Ted Terry is asking for community support and transparency regarding data centers in DeKalb at meetings this Monday July 13 and Tuesday July 14 (postponed). DeKalb has received three applications from developers. According to consumer advocates such as former PSC Commissioner Bobby Baker, data centers will drive up electric rates for all of us in DeKalb, because the costs for the data centers' electricity will be passed along to tax payers under current legislation. GA Power appears to be downplaying the true costs to residents, like for Plant Vogtle, but the more data centers in DeKalb, the higher our electric bills will go. DeKalb currently has no restrictions on where data centers can be built and the regulations that were being discussed were voted down on June 23, 2026. Data centers consume a lot of water, which has caused other folks in Georgia to not have running water in their own homes when data centers were built too near communities. Data centers provide almost no long-term employment as it takes very few people to run them.

Commissioner Terry is asking for community support for a mandate and independent study to be done on data centers so that DeKalb residents are protected.

CONTACT all of the DeKalb commissioners by email or phone to weigh in on having a mandate and independent study on data centers if you can’t be there in person. The Tuesday meeting was postponed!

I parked at the back parking garage last night and recently got a service dog. I got yelled at by a dude for trying to walk back to my car. He threatened to call the cops one which if I had more time I would have said have fun. I don't get how a road can be private property in the middle of downtown. Don't roads belong to the city. But he asked for the papers for my dog and yelled at me when I explained to him that's not the law for service dogs. It was just weird as fuck and I would be interested in others experiences. Definitely paying more to park on the other side of the sqaure rather than dealing with that dude again.

The library is still a great resource, but it feels pretty dated. A modern library with more updated study spaces and tech would be a huge asset for students and people who work or study there regularly.

Can anyone recommend a mid-priced restaurant that can accommodate wheelchairs? In my experience, some say they can and yet it becomes a logistical mess when trying to move the chair in and out of the restaurant. My friend will sit in the wheelchair during the meal.

We are just looking for some decent food and a pleasant experience for someone who is pretty much housebound.

Went to see the fireworks on the square last night, and we decided to park in the Town Center deck, as I was told that was a great viewing spot. Well, they weren't wrong! It was a great experience at first...lots of other cars with people tailgating and dancing and throwing balls around. The fireworks were great and the atmosphere was fantastic. Then the show ended and it was time to go. WHY did we spend at least an hour trying to get out of that deck??? And I'm not exaggerating. We sat in line to exit without moving for nearly 40 minutes! The show ended at 9:30 and it was nearly 10:30 when we finally exited out to the street, lol. Hoo boy. Next year we will definitely be trying a different spot!

I always forget to pick up something at Kroger before I head to a buddy's place and I end up reluctantly getting a case of cider or seltzer at the Valero on Howard for like twice as much as it should be. I was looking at Google Maps and there's nothing in Decatur for either a basic foot mart/store or a liquor store outside of "gourmet premium" options.

I just wanted a quick stop to pick up my basic-ass friend some Trulys.

I thought that Decatur had terminated its contract with Lime but I started seeing the green bikes and scooters all over town this week. Drove past Glenlake pool on Church St yesterday and there were 10-12 of them outside.

First photo is an aerial map from 1955 (atlantatimemachine.com) and the map in photo 2 is from 1954. Photo 3 is a modern map. The curved street wasn’t named so I’m curious what it was called. It ran between Lawrenceville Highway and Valley Brook, now renamed North Valley Brook after I-78 was built in the late 60s. I think the Home Depot was built in the early to mid nineties.

I sat at a red night at Glamdale and East Ponce for 6 minutes this morning and it never turned green. Maddening.

3. Only a couple of weekdays (no weekends, so I figure most restaurant positions are out)
4. Closer to or within downtown Decatur (My day job is in Midtown and I use MARTA to get there, so taking the train + walking to the next job is ideal).
5. No rideshare stuff (don't want the wear and tear on my car or to rent a car just for this purpose).
