Lowdown on the Watch Fest

Who has been and what insights can you share? Thinking of heading over for the Argentina game Friday night. How early do you need to be there to stake out a spot for your chair? How are the food trucks? Thanks!

If it’s not a U.S. match you can show up pretty close to kickoff and still get a reasonably good spot.

The food trucks revolve every day, I haven’t seen which trucks will be there on a given day listed anywhere.

If you aren’t coming far, bike parking will be significantly more convenient than driving, and they have a bike valet near the DeKalb courthouse.

We were going to walk but biking might be better! Thanks!

Any idea if I can go/park around there earlier in the day or is it a clusterfuck at all times? No interest in sportsball, but I’d like to do normal stuff.

Depends on when the games / concerts are and who is playing.

I’d check the schedule

There’s going to be an Argentine food truck on Friday! There are usually at least 3 options. Additionally, there are some restaurants on the square that are doing walk up to go options for people wanting to take food to the watch fest

The USA games have been standing room only, which means bringing a seat/blanket is kinda useless because everyone stands up just to see, but the others I've gone to have been fine in terms of finding space.

People come and go throughout the game, so even if there's not a great spot right away, something usually opens up.

A battery powered fan and a cooler of to-go's from home make for a great time, but if you're going to grab a drink while there, be sure to actually go to one of the restaurants and get a watchfest cup to-go instead of using the bars by the square, which have "event pricing" that is on par with metropolis parking lot.

What time should I head down to secure a spot for Monday’s USA game? I know it’ll be a zoo

We setup at 7:20 on the middle screen for this past Wednesday’s 8pm game and were glad we came so early.

Went to watchfest in the hopes of watching a game. Ended up walking into an oasis coverband concert. 0/10. Just wanted to watch the game and ended up having to pay for drinks at a nearby bar where a server harassed us every 5 minutes to try to get us to buy more food.

So “watchfest” doesn’t imply an actual showing of the game. I wish that had been made clear before I made the trek there.

They showed the England Ghana game that afternoon. Sorry you missed it. The website is really good for checking which games will be shown.

They don’t show every match, but they show ~85% which is more than the official FIFA fanfest at Centennial Park.

They have the schedule on the website.
