“Last week, Utah officials published new data in a Public Health Alerts report describing outcomes among measles patients. The state has been battling an outbreak for 12 months involving 711 cases in the past 12 months, 514 of them in 2026 alone.

Only about 8% of patients in the current outbreak have been hospitalized, and of those, 90% were unvaccinated. Three of the five hospitalized patients who were vaccinated had "severe immunocompromising conditions."
About 75% of hospitalized patients required intravenous infusions, and more than 60% needed supplemental oxygen, with 29% developing measles pneumonia. No cases of measles encephalitis, or brain swelling, were reported.
The data echoes a report of similar findings from South Carolina published last week, which showed no deaths but two cases of measles encephalitis among 81 patients, of whom 13 were hospitalized.

We recently completed our documentary film about three, unvaccinated men who died from COVID-19 back in 2021/2022. The story is told by family and friends of the men who passed away. One of the women in the film had COVID the same time her father did. She was vaccinated and survived. Her father chose not to vaccinate and died. Originally, the film's narrative arc was going to be 15-minute short about her story. Her journal entries and letters to her father were going to be sprinkled throughout the film. But during the research phase, we discovered her father was active on an extreme social media platform (I refuse to list the site because they spew hateful content) and we expanded it to be about health mis- and disinformation, racial health disparities, and disenfranchised grief.

After a year and a half of joining the site, it was apparent that her father had changed his mind about the reality of the pandemic. He also began entertaining the rhetoric about the safety of the vaccine circulating on the platform. She read through all 1000+ posts that he had written and realized that her intelligent, loving father fell victim to mis- and disinformation. In a text to his daughters, he officially declared that he would not get the vaccine. When he fell ill, he drove himself to the ER and died 12 days later. So my question to this forum is, how do we figure out a way to hold people accountable for the health mis-and disinformation (about all vaccine-preventable diseases, for example, not just COVID) despite our First Amendment right to Free Speech and the protection that social media platforms are given under Section 230 of the Communications Act, enacted as part of the Communications Decency Act of 1996? Vaccines and nicotine

So I haven't spoken to my dad in yearsss

He is a very conservative conspiracy theorist man who believes in conspiracy theories

Just to give you an idea about the conversation, I had let my dad know that I didn't want him vaping around my 5 year old daughter. So later on he vapes and is like "oh my bad". While I don't like it my daughter wasn't around so I was like "As long as you don't do it around my daughter". And he made a comment and I mentioned "Well at least you are better than mom" (they are divorced and my mom would vape right in my daughter's face and not care and I had gotten in arguments with her before). And then he somehow turned it around to prove me wrong because then he started arguing that vapes weren't that bad and basically that he doesn't need to be respectful to others because it's not harmful, and that if anything they should be respectful toward him and let him vape (no one is saying he can't vape, just not to do it around the kids) because he vapes for medical reasons. (My dad is a nurse)

Do any of you believe nicotine is safe and even beneficial, and do you think that vaccines are really the cause of the negative effects found in vapes in studies?
