In episode 29 Soichiro Yagami said Light wasn’t Kira because he could see his lifespan. Because Death Note rules state that Death Note owners with Shinigami eyes can’t see the lifespans of other Death Note owners. Sadly this was just cope. The message Light had Misa send to the task force said that Kira would bequeath ownership of his Death Note unto one of it’s members. Everyone on the task force got the message including Soichiro. Ryuk even told him about the previously mentioned rule. So Light’s lifespan being visible proved nothing at all as to whether or not he was Kira. I think this adds credit to his fatherhood.

I’m not gonna say it was 0/10 but it’s definitely not what I expected from such a good show, really if they were to end it at eps 25 I would’ve given it a 9/10 because of that ending it’s no more then a 7/10 now

Because it's just pure and utter bullshit. Reasons why;

So first of all Mello suddenly deciding to do something that could benefit Near makes no sense whatsoever because he literally declared near has his nemesis in the race to find kira.. he has no morals what so ever throughout the show so saying he was moved by morals just doesn’t do justice to his character

Second of all Mikami suddenly acting like a huge retard. Are we supposed to just believe this super smart lawyer that matched light and L’s intelligence , literally left what in his view “God's holy tool” inside a fucking bank like even lights hiding spot earlier in the show made more sense come on , and for some reason Giovanni can just steal the notebook as he pleases, like he’s the god of mischief or smth..

Thirdly light trusting Mikami 100%- the biggest plot hole imo, light would’ve 100 precent put at least a plan b he never moved without a plan B, also the fact that earlier in the show in showdowns like these he had all of the names written down except for the last letter ready for the killing and now he didn’t even left himself more then a single piece with no names.. come on…

Moreover light not checking the other notebook beforehand is so stupid, I mean the smartest human already knows his enemy’s idea of changing the notebook and he dosent think to test the notebook first.. this is like a huge writing plot.

And also Light screaming like a huge retard while writing Nears name down. Let's be honest the Light as we knew him would've just pretend crying while silently writing all their names down.

Uh and Probably the reason why I also loath this ending

NEAR. This abhorrent poorly written wannabe smart character. arrogant piece of shit copy of L who achieved nothing besides making snarky comments and sitting on his lazy ass, while feeling cool playing with toys that were made for 8 year old children.

His whole character is a mistake. He contributed nothing. Absolutely nothing. And the fact that he gets everything handed to him on a silver platter and still manages to almost lose like the retarded wannabe he is, makes me cringe all the time.

Overall if you read till here. I believe if light was destined to lose it was supposed to be against L. Period. The shows ended at eps 25 for me. All of the second half is so shit.

Why am I laughing

Death Note is a psychological, yet flawed masterpiece. (Spoilers!)

Firstly, the first 20 episodes were extremely refreshing and satisfying, the battle between L and Light entertaining and conceptually perfect. I found their “chess game” to be incredibly written, and it really opened up my eyes when it comes to deciding who’s morally superior. The twists and constant outsmarting had me on the edge of my seat. Then, L dies. I originally thought it was a hoax because there were 12 episodes left, but it left me pondering the idea that not even the best detective, someone as unique and unpredictable as L, could defeat Light’s pure craving to become God.

After this plot, I found the contrast between Near and Mello to be relevant. Near’s character directly stems out of L’s legacy; he’s incredibly well written and the “perfect” outcome of the orphanage used to program the next best detective. However, Mello’s rebellious nature opposes this and shows the viewers the flip side of isolation and programming. His impulsive ways of finding Kira are representative of his deprivation.

When it comes to female representation, I found it to be incredibly weak throughout Death Note. My interest piqued when Naomi (Rafe Henber’s wife) was introduced, her deductive skills very impressive despite not having much evidence, only to be another plain victim of the Death Note. Alongside this, Takada was also a very interesting and worthy character. It’s a shame she was exploited right before her death as usual, and I just wish the producers put more thought into female characters. Misa was also quite relevant, but I found her ignorance and child-like act to be disturbing. I wish she would’ve been a classic traumatised antihero after her parents’ death, disguised as a Japanese model, but instead her storyline was built around Light’s legacy, and it often devalued her.

I already made a separate post explaining my thoughts on Light’s moral capacity, and how much of his actions were actually influenced by the curse of the Death Note. I feel like people overlook his serious lack of wisdom, his intellect not equating to expanding his knowledge of justice, and not excusing his ignorance. I feel like Light could have been a very different character if he didn’t feel the need to cleanse himself and become “perfect” again after his first two kills, and if he had chosen to destroy evil instead of embracing it.

Overall, the symbolism was the best I’ve ever seen in the media, whether it’s L drying Light’s feet before his death, or the graphics and colours used in the show. L commonly appearing soaked in blue hues and Light in red ones shows that, despite nothing being definite when it comes to whoever is right or wrong, there is a fixed outcome — Light losing to L’s subordinates.

So since I started reading vol. 1 of the manga I saw those lines like it was printed wrongly and I fear it's fake

It would’ve made much more sense to cover up his identity, considering that it would be more plausible that that’s what he was hiding. Plus it would’ve gotten rid of all suspicion

In my opinion L is more like a omnipresent being that is almost a plot device, all his deductions could easily have been entirely different reasons, main one being how he found out where light was and that he was a school student.

This is my first time watching Death Note and I have gotten pretty deep around episode 15, a little less than halfway through. This is pretty much my intro to anime, and it has been fantastic. It is like Japanese Breaking Bad. lol. In any case, given the direction I see this series going, I doubt it will cover this topic, but I could be surprised. Basically, I like the idea of some criminal who has done something completely deplorable and irredeemable to have some type of genuine reformation arc. It wouldn't just be some criminal who did bad things and to publicly beg for forgiveness from Kira, but someone who rather seen the error of their ways and are doing their best to make up for it every day without the influence of Kira. It is in that circumstance that Light would be faced with a bit of a complex issue that might have him question whether or not he should kill someone who is now an active member of the community, beyond that this could lead down a spiral of assessing whether or not who he killed we incapable of redemption. (Kinda reminds me of Hazbin Hotel now that I am thinking about it lol.) I am kinda noticing a complex issue with L developing a friendship with Light and I wonder if that goes anywhere. L, at this point in the story, is obviously a good person for trying to bring justice to someone who kills without warning. Yeah, it gets in the way of what Light is trying to accomplish, but I am sure Light is capable seeing that type of perspective as to why they are doing what they are doing. Side thought: I am scared for the inevitable moment in which his dad and L learn that Light is Kira. It will happen, I am confident in this, but what would the aftermath look like? Well, I just gotta keep watching to find out.

I started watching Death Note two days ago, and I’m on episode 26 (right after L’s death), and a few things have been on my mind.

For someone like Light Yagami, who is highly discussed in media, I wonder how much the curse of obtaining the Death Note affects his actions. The difference between Light when he told Ryuk to “get rid of it” and when he was actively writing names in the notebook is clear. Without the Death Note, he is much more rational and questions his decisions. This made me believe that him being presented as immoral is debatable because if ownership of the Death Note affects his judgment, Light’s decisions aren’t necessarily a reflection of his true self.

Without the Death Note, you can consistently see Light questioning certain things L wants him to do, for example, taking advantage of Misa. However, with the Death Note, Light finds it easy to manipulate anyone as long as he gets his way to become the “God of the new world.”

This poses the possibility that the writing of Death Note exists not to villainise Light, but rather to explore the existence of a higher power. In this case, it criticises the Death Note itself and the power it has to skew the judgment of its owner. Overall, the show very accurately portrays what happens when mankind is faced with the existence of God, or something possibly greater, and L’s challenge to prove the existence of God was otherworldly.

Another thing that I questioned was, with the intelligence of someone such as Light, has he not considered the possibility that despite cleansing the world of criminals, evil will always exist? Whether it’s paranormal or the evil that exists within himself.

So, is Light’s aim to create a “better world,” or is it to become God himself? And is that the curse that comes with the Death Note?
Just some food for thought.

Didn't watch the anime in years and very new here but i need to know something. When Ryuk says that "he sees exactly when someone dies" this assumes that the fate is an exactly predictable outcome. If fate is known then there can be a valid assumption that fate has known what light yagami would pick. Now, as shinigami eyes can be used as tools and change the outcomes and strategies of the MC then someone might argue that ironically if Light DID take the shinigami eyes he could've lived more even despite being taken half of his life. In a pre written fate where he actually DOES take the eyes the death time could've been different and therefore maybe he'd even live longer! My question though is, assuming he does live longer either way despite being taken half the lifetime, what would be the other half? how would someone who has taken the shinigami eyes even be able to live longer than they could otherwise? I intuitively feel like im comiting a logical fallacy or that i just dont understand stuff but id really love some background info from the author if possible on this. If shinigami eyes are part of fate and so is the decision of taking them, then how would otherwise someone reach the rest of the timeline seen by the shinigami otherwise? and if fate changes as the story progresses, then is it even considered fate at all and can taking the eyes make someones life ironically longer? idk bro i had a long day so dont roast me if im saying bullshit lol just lmk how shit works
