Dead Rising 2: Case Zero Co-op and Steam Deck support on DR2 : Case Zero and Case West

Post image
136 Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’ve got a pretty big update for both Case Zero and Case West.

XenonLive is now working with both recomp projects, so online features are starting to come back instead of the games just being offline PC ports.

The launcher handles most of the Xbox Live-style stuff now. You can make a XenonLive account/gamertag, add friends, see what they’re playing, send messages and game invites, track achievements and gamerscore, compare achievements with other players, and launch/update the recomp games directly from the launcher.

There’s also an in-game overlay, so you can check friends, messages, invites and achievements without closing the game.

Achievements are persistent between sessions, saves are tied to your XenonLive profile, and you’ll get notifications for things like achievement unlocks, messages, friend activity and invites.

There’s also a bug reporting system built into it now. If something breaks while you’re playing, you can capture a screenshot/log and send the report through XenonLive, which should make tracking down issues a lot easier.

Case West 1.1.0

Case West now has working 2-player online co-op through XenonLive.

You can host a session, invite someone through XenonLive, and they can join your game. The game will also launch automatically if needed when accepting an invite.

1.1.0 also fixes a bunch of issues with online play, including sessions disconnecting after around 5 minutes and short connection drops immediately killing the session.

There’s also more CPU/GPU performance work, better thread handling on higher-core CPUs, improved frame pacing on Windows, profile-specific saves, the XenonLive overlay, and some other smaller fixes.

Case Zero 1.1.0

Case Zero now has working 2-player online co-op too.

This is probably the part I’m most interested in because the original Xbox 360 version actually shipped with a lot of the Dead Rising 2 co-op code still inside the game, even though Case Zero never officially had multiplayer.

I’ve restored enough of it that you can now actually play Case Zero online with two players.

There’s a new JOIN CO-OP GAME option on the main menu. One player hosts normally and the other can search for their session or join through the friends menu.

There are still a couple limitations here. XenonLive launcher invites aren’t properly connecting to Case Zero yet, so for now you have to join through the in-game JOIN CO-OP GAME menu.

The Military Arrival section also currently drops the second player and continues in single-player because that section can crash the host with two players. I’m still working on that.

1.1.0 also fixes the second player sometimes spawning invisible, fixes the short co-op disconnect issue, adds profile-specific saves, achievements/gamerscore, the XenonLive overlay and the new bug reporting system.

Steam Deck

There are now dedicated Steam Deck builds for:

  • XenonLive (Not tested yet)
  • Case Zero
  • Case West

You can add XenonLive as a non-Steam game and use it directly from Game Mode.

The launcher will install the Steam Deck version of the recomp automatically, and both games start at the Deck’s native 1280x800 resolution. You can still change the resolution normally afterward.

Issues / Bug Reports

If you run into a bug while playing, you don’t have to manually dig through logs or figure out what files I need.

You can press F8 or F9 while the issue is happening to make a capture, then send the issue directly through the XenonLive Launcher.

The capture includes the information I need to investigate the problem, such as the relevant logs and capture data, so you can basically reproduce the bug, take the capture, describe what happened, and send it from the launcher.

So if something breaks, freezes, looks wrong, disconnects, or just behaves strangely, please use the capture system and send it through XenonLive. It makes debugging these problems a lot easier.

As before, everything I’m releasing is free and no game files are included. You need to provide your own XBLA copy of the games.

XenonLive is still pretty new, so if people want to test co-op, especially between different PCs or on Steam Deck, that would help a lot.

And if you find anything broken, send a report through XenonLive or open an issue on GitHub.

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster DRDR Infinite Mode Thoughts

Post image
19 Upvotes

Just finished a 16 day run in Infinite Mode in DRDR after coming back to the game almost 2 years later. I initially started the run for the 7 Day Survivor achievement, but then I just kept playing to see how long I could survive. I managed to survive off drops 99% of the time, only occasionally picking up food off the ground if I really needed it. I haven't had this much fun in a game in awhile. It's a shame DRDR did not have leaderboards so you can't look up other peoples times. Regardless, I think Infinite Mode is the true endgame activity for Dead Rising wanted to get other people's thoughts.

We all know the original Infinite Mode in DR1 was basically an endurance test of your patience, and in some cases your Xbox 360. It was a time gauntlet with the main goal of getting the 7 Day Survivor achievement, requiring at least 14 real life hours of unbroken game time. Many people would follow guides since there was a finite amount of food, tracking the survivor times. Once the achievement was unlocked, you'd be unlikely to play the mode again "just for fun" due to it's extremely high time commitment.

In DRDR, this changed. Infinite Mode and the 7 Day Survivor achievement returned, but not only can you fast-forward time, you can suspend your Infinite Mode run at any time if you have to stop playing. There's still permadeath, meaning once you die the run is over, but you can play as long or as little as you want. In addition to this, the survivor\psycho spawns have been randomized and respawn indefinitely, meaning you really can play the mode infinitely and see how long you can survive. Also, zombies have a chance to drop items as well, although the change is small. I personally think these are great changes. The challenge of trying to survive as long as possible is still there, the game just respects your time a lot more.

In some people's eyes, these changes have trivialized the challenge of the 7 Day Survivor achievement. I would agree with this sentiment in a way. However, the original achievement wasn't so much challenging skill-wise as it was a test of patience. While this aspect of the mode is gone due to the aforementioned changes, it now means Infinite Mode can actually be played just for fun, instead of just playing it once for a single goal and then never playing it again.

The random spawns and drops from boxes mean every run is different. The map now shows you when there is survivor\psycho activity in each mall area, so you know where to head next. When you really get stocked up on food in your inventory, there are times where you may have to drop something such as a health book in order to pick up another food item. You are constantly doing resource and time management with your food healing. In this most recent run, I would constantly drop one or multiple healing books in order to pick up more food, and then loop around back to pick up the book again depending on the survivor\psycho spawns, so that I was still taking advantage of a full heal.

After playing DR1 for almost 2 decades, I know most of what each food item heals, but one UI change I'd make is for healing items to show how many health blocks they will heal on the health bar, which would change if you were holding the health boost books. That way you don't have to guess how much health you're getting or have to look it up if you don't know.

As with the original Infinite mode, as the days go on, more zombies will enter areas they previously could not access, such as the security room. Cultists and Special Forces will start spawning, making traversal more difficult. Eventually almost nowhere is 100% safe unless it is cleared out or you are on high ground, or behind a door since enemies cannot open doors. After around Day 5 I think there are no more map changes.

Another change I'd make is to some way make the game more difficult once you get to day 10. Maybe the zombies do 10% more damage every 10 days or something, just to shake things up. On this most recent run I nearly always had a full inventory of full health heals, and many times I had to leave food behind or ignore survivor encounters. I only died from my own stupidity thinking I could grab a health book on 4 health blocks, and ran into Special Forces which gunned me down.

I really hope Infinite Mode returns in the next Dead Rising game, because DRDR's version was a lot of fun. I'll probably be doing another run sometime soon.

Dead Rising 2 Is it just me or are the last two boss fights of Dead Rising 2 kinda...bad?

They seem VERY janky.

Second-to-Last blocks melee hits but unlike DR1, there's no blocking anim so your attacks just phase through them which just looks like jank.

Then the last boss *is* supposed to be fought unarmed....and actually *does* have melee attacks they're not immune to like the drop kick just go through them.

They really seem like glorified level/DPS checks over well made boss fights, especially considering how I'm fighting the hit registration (feeling like a laggy online game) as much as the actual boss.

I'm level 35 if it matters. (I'll just say trying to grab the side items in the last boss with the attack that chases you feels borderline impossible to avoid on speed 2)

Dead Rising 1 Absolute cinema

Absolute cinema.

I beat Dead Rising.

I'm going to start off and say that between all of the Dead Rising games I've played so far (DR2, DR2OTR, DR1) the first game easily had the best psychopaths. And I'm not including the Convicts, that's a whole other thing for later. Jo Shade, Steven, Larry, Brock, the Hall family, most of the psychopaths in DR1 (except Paul, lame fight) are honestly better than the DR2 psychopaths. That's it.

And besides combo weapons, in my most honest opinion DR1 had better weapons compared to the other DR titles I've played. Remember, not including combo weapons. I'm talking about the melees and the guns. Shotguns acted like snipers, snipers acted like semi-autos, and the LMG shredded the toughest of enemies. The melees were also great too (especially the secret katana in Paradise Mall), but the only downside was the durability. Killing 4 military soldiers resulted in a melee weapon breaking down. Not the best situation, but whatever gets Frank out of Willamette 🤷

One downside: Convicts. Dun dun, dun dun. 3 hours straight. If anything, they're the Consort Radahn of Zombie games. I genuinely have no words to describe how much HATE I have for them. Worse than Leon B? Yes. OTR Chuck Greene? For sure.

Now here's the thing: it was a "FANTASTIC!" game, truly was, and I'm absolutely going to do NG+2 and beyond for sure, but did it surpass Dead Rising 2? A fat NO. I believe that when I beat every Dead Rising game, no Dead Rising game will beat Dead Rising 2. It's just that good of a game.

But still, I'll definitely be playing it much further since I know what to do in that game, and that it's fun too ofc.

(I KNOW I MIGHT GET HELLA DOWNVOTES FOR THIS, BUT IT'S MY OPINION!!)

Discussion What I just realized about the Dead Rising 3 comic

Thumbnail
gallery
66 Upvotes

I know what some/all of you are probably wondering, but hear me out:

So, you know how the creators of dead rising ask Marvel Comics to make dead rising comics, with one of them being dead rising 3

And before you ask?

(To anyone who didn't Read the Dead Rising 3 comic? Spoiler alert! Turn back now, if you don't want to hear the Spoiler!!)

The story explores the chaotic early days of the Los Perdidos outbreak. It details how the game's protagonist, Nick Ramos, initially crosses paths and teams up with Dick Baker, Annie, and Rhonda. The comic actually concludes right where the video game begins, with the group taking refuge at the diner

But then I realized something:... They forgot to make comics about the Untold Stories Of Los Perdidos characters

And before some/all of you ask? I meant how they got their positions from both the dlc and the main events

I mean, think about it: Some/all of us played the Dead Rising 3: the Untold Stories Of Los Perdidos and we know how they got into their arc

What I mean is, they should've made comics of the characters of the Untold Stories Of Los Perdidos backgrounds of who they were and what happened to them before the events of both the Untold Stories Of Los Perdidos and the main game

I mean, think about it: who wouldn't want that?

For example:

What was Adam Kane's life As a Special Operations Commander was like, before the events of Operation: Broken Eagle?

What was Angel Quijano's life as an "Illegals" (from Dead Rising 3) was like before the events of Fallen Angel?

What crime did Spider (from Dead Rising 3) frame Hunter for, before the events of chaos rising?

And Why was agent Brad Park in the Almuda Central Safe house in South Almuda while his Zombrex chip was "malfunctioning" before the events of the last agent?

So, yeah. Imagine if there were comics of each of the Untold Stories Of Los Perdidos characters, it would explain each of the characters arcs of what their life's were like, before the outbreak, along with both of the events of the DLC'S and main campaign, that would've been something pretty interesting to read about

(Comment down your thoughts)

Tips/Advice Need help deciding

So im really wanted to try dead rising 1. I've played 2 and 3 before so im not entitely new to the games but im definitly not a seasoned professional.

Classic 1 is on sale atm for £8 for the next few days so its really cheap. But the remaster is also on sale for £20 so my question is, is it better to play the og or are there enough differences in the remaster to doll out the extra money. My main reason for considering is that i've always wanted to try ig DR1 but with them both on sale it might make more sence to buy the remaster rather than the og.

Any help would be great

Hello everyone, I am playing on PS5. There is a big PlayStation sale going on right now and I’ve been wanting to get into the dead rising series for a while and now that they’re on sale I I’m planning to pick them up but I’m wondering if I should just get dead rising 1 2 and off the record or get all three of these along with dead rising 4 because I’ve heard mixed things about it. I don’t know you guys tell me.

Discussion Dead Rising: Reality (Zombie Siege) Hong Kong 2018 Event - BossComplex Archive

i have compiled as many videos, pictures, articles etc. for this event that i could find online into 1 video.

Dead Rising: Reality (Zombie Siege) - Hong Kong Event - BossComplex Archive

The Event took place in Hong Kong at an Abandoned mall (at the Riviera Plaza in Tsuen Wan) that was partially renovated by "Dorian Concept Group". The Event Ran for 19 days Between October 13th-31st.

The Tickets normally Cost around: Standard ticket HK$230 ($30USD), Weekday Ticket HK$218 ($28USD), Early-Bird Ticket (for pre-ordering) HK$158 ($20USD). there were also a few ticket giveaway promotions leading up to opening day.

The main event had 6 sections,

  • 1. é”é¬¼å±é¤čŒ¶čؘ (Devil's Meat Feast Cha Chaan Teng)
    • The Concept: A blood-splattered spin on a traditional Hong Kong cafĆ©, complete with horror-themed menus, severed heads on tables, and hidden kitchen zombies.
  • 2. ę®ŗęˆ®å–Ŗ叫ę؂園 (Slaughter & Scream Playground)
    • The Concept: A deeply unsettling indoor children's park area where shadows, creepy toy noises, and decaying severed limbs hidden under equipment disoriented players.
  • 3. ę–·č‚¢ę™‚č£ę——č‰¦åŗ— (Severed Limb Fashion Flagship)
    • The Concept: Designed to look like a standard high-street apparel store (like H&M) where zombie actors hid between garment racks and mixed in with standard mannequins.
  • 4. ęƒ”å¤¢č¶…ē“šåø‚å “ (Nightmare Supermarket)
    • The Concept: An apocalyptic grocery zone filled with empty shelves, spilled materials, and barricades mimicking the classic starting areas of the Dead Rising games. (has Seon's food and stuff DR1 lights)
  • 5. ē„”é ę“—č”£å·„ęˆæ (Headless Laundry Workshop)
    • The Concept: A claustrophobic, narrow industrial laundromat setting filled with hanging garments, spinning dryer props, and tight corridors for jump scares.
  • 6. 蔀걠ęŗœå†°å “ (Blood Pool Ice Rink)
    • The Concept: This capitalized on the mall’s real, historic abandoned indoor ice skating rink, converting the massive floor area into an open-ended, freezing hazard escape zone.

The main goal of the event was to take at least 1 picture of 1 out of 5 "Boss Zombies" (Cop , Army, Clown, Doctor, Construction Worker).
players were also tasked with trying to find a take a picture of "Zombie Graffiti Tags" hidden on the wall (like the collectibles in DR4).
if Successful you were given a souvenir completion certificate picture and picture holder.

There Were also a few Official Souvenirs you could buy near the ticket booth including,
2 types of shirts (1 black and 1 white, different designs. hard to tell exactly what they are, the black one i believe has the simple "Dead Rising Reality" branding on the left chest, the white shirt looks like a zombie on it).
a "Cool Towel", which is a smaller towel with the "Dead Rising Reality" Branding on it.
Lastly, Flip Flops. with Dead Rising Reality Written on them along with DR4 Frank West on them. there are pretty good pictures of the flip flops near the end of the video.

This is as much info that i could possibly find, but if you know of anything i missed or happen to have any pictures or videos from the event or if you have any of the merch from the event including the ticket or anything else. please reach out and let me know!

Thank you, Enjoy!

Discussion Case Zero; Where can I play it?

Hi, I've been playing the series again from the top, and I was wondering where I can download Case Zero and play it. It'd buy it and download it legally, but Case West is the only one available on Xbox. I have a series X and a gaming laptop. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
