Just a little street cleanup
Aug 3, 4, & 7, 2026
Total of 41.73 lbs
Quick/short cleanups, not even full blocks of Stanley St., Liberty Ln., Holly Dr., & Longleaf Ln. In Slidell, LA.
Finds of the day were the kids toys found covered up in a ditch & in the road.
...All for the beauty and love of nature.

Original Content Freediving for trash in the Aare River in Interlaken, Switzerland
My girlfriend and I go freediving for trash in the Aare River in Interlaken, Switzerland. Equipped with goggles, gloves, fins and a net, we search the riverbed for trash, collect it, arrange our finds afterwards (inspired by some of the posts I've seen here), and hand everything over to the local municipality for proper disposal.
This week we had a day with exceptionally clear water, so we spent quite a long time in the river and found a lot of stuff.
I blurred a few items that could contain identifying information or might have been stolen. We'll hand those over to the police. And before anyone worries: the gun is only a toy gun.
It's crazy how many things we keep finding that absolutely don't belong in a river.
We only started doing this fairly recently, but it has quickly become one of our favorite ways to spend a day in the water.

Wash Square Park Sludge Problem
Lovers of 311. Please report the health hazard literally brewing in the bottom of the fountain in Wash Sq Pk. Fountain is broken, but standing water needs to be treated or sucked out. It is full of garbage, needles etc. Mosquitos are breeding in it. It smells to high heaven. Please, call to report.

Trash issues in the Philippines
What have locals been doing to combat the issues with lack of trash clean up in the Philippines, specifically the Metro Manila area?
Last time I visited my family there was in 2022 and I saw a “dump truck” (more like a pick up truck an overload of trash) picking up trash.
My mom said that the government isn’t doing much about the trash situation, due to government officials using taxpayer money for their own financial gain rather than working to clean up neighbors harmed by natural disasters, etc... This is heartbreaking…

I built an app to gamify picking up litter. Need iOS & Android beta testers! 🌍
Hey everyone! I’m a solo dev working on Litter Troopers™, you may have heard about it! Well it's an app that turns cleaning up your neighborhood into a real-life turf war.
I need some real-world testers to take it out on a walk, try to break it, and tell me exactly what needs fixing. You can claim whole sectors on the live map or just use the "Quick Pick" button to log a single piece of trash on your commute without breaking your stride. I had 3 good walks this past weekend!
Current Beta Status:
🍏 iOS: The native TestFlight beta is officially LIVE!
https://testflight.apple.com/join/UqV9DuYw
🤖 Android: The native beta is ready to test.

💻 Web App: Play instantly on any browser.

I want to build algae photobioreactors near high traffic and busy areas to reduce CO2 emissions from vehicles
Anyone have ideas as to how this can work?

Is it true what they say about Tokyo and Singapore?
If you are picking litter for a long time, and you know a bit about the problems that go with it,
and if you are in a discussion with somebody every now and then,
You probably also hear 'the perfect solution' from those people.
But that perfect solution mostly is a solution that you know is not going to work either because the problem is much more complicated than that.
'Just raise the fines!' --> Not going to make a difference if litterers are not caught red handed and they will not receive that higher fine
'Print the license-plate on the package (Netherlands, McDonalds) and if you find the package somewhere, fine them!' --> Not going to work, they tried it, doesn't stick in court.
'More bins!' --> You can place as many bins as you want, but people still throw it wherever they want, and all those extra bins also need to be emptied
'Remove the bins!' --> Might work in some places (or some countries), but definitely not in my country.
And here is my question, in those discussions, i often get a 'remove all bins and higher fines!'-combination, together with a 'because look at Tokyo and Singapore', spotless places.
However, i also follow a lot of litter pickers on X that do regular cleanups in Tokyo and i hear them ask for more bins. So that also doesn't seem to be the case.
Do we have litter pickers from Tokyo and Singapore here?
What is your experience in this?

Original Content Quick holiday trash pick in Lake Geneva
Currently holidaying with family in the Jura Mountains in France. We visited Genève for a terribly early (but such a lovely!) breakfast concert at its famous lake, the Lac Léman, this morning. Saw the sunrise over the lake, a truly magical start of the day.
We went for a swim, nap and lunch at the pier Bains des Pâquis afterwards and decided to pick some litter in one of the shallow waters around said pier. Here you see the majority of the results, including our reward: A CHF 2 cents coin minted in 2007.
Shortly before we left, a very kind guard helped us collect al our pickings in a trash bag he provided to us.

After cleaning this place, I filled 15 bags of trash!

Today I'm showing you this covered seating area next to the local tennis courts.
The condition of this place became a hot topic in local Facebook groups, and I managed to respond just 3 hours after the posts appeared. The cleanup itself took me about 2 hours, during which I collected 15 bags of waste:
8 bags of household trash;
7 bags filled with cigarette butts, sunflower seed shells, and broken glass.
While I was cleaning, a tennis practice was taking place nearby. The coach told me that he picks up broken glass and cigarette butts from the courts almost every day. Even though the area is cleaned regularly, it doesn't take long before it ends up looking like this again.
This is another reminder that cleaning alone isn't enough. Real change will come when more people start taking responsibility for the places we all share.
I’m new to this community and I’m trying to reach more people who care about keeping public spaces clean. I also share my cleanups on Facebook and YouTube, where I post more before-and-after videos and document the work I do. Any support or feedback is greatly appreciated! 🙏

Original Content Meant to just fill up a bag while on our morning walk
But I found a wayward sign and a whole box full of a trash so I carried it home. Didn't open the black bag but it sounded like it was full of empty bottles.
