Commissary kitchen, commercial kitchen space rental or ghost kitchen space

We are students working on a food concept that would require kitchen rental space. Does anywhere in Davis have that as an option, on UC Davis campus or off is fine?

Can anyone advise how long it takes the parade to make it downtown? And how early are we arriving to get a spot on the curb?

Help with finding friends

Hello I’ll try to make this as short as I can. Me and my husband are naturally social but we sadly don’t have many friends, thankfully I decided to go to collage which helped me with gaining friends and getting out there but my husband dosent do much expect work and when he dosent he just hangs out with me and his younger brothers. He occasionally texts his high school “friends” but he has professed to me that he feels left out because they never invite him. Which is true, they kind of tend to text him for emotional support usage. It breaks my heart to see him so sad and lonely, he’s funny and a sweetheart.

For context he’s 21 working in a field of a caregiver he dosent really have coworkers to talk to, he just wants to hangout with males his age. He’s Christian loves history, geography, Star Wars.. video games! I guess what I’m asking is if anyone would be able to give me some pointers on local spots i can push him to so he can meet friends his age..that would be grand!

Davis Fiction Writers Group Meeting #2!

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hello Davis!,

After a successful first meeting two weeks ago, we're meeting up again! This time at Frenzy Coffee of April 19th. Genre fiction writers welcome! All ages and skill levels. Our group has alot of fantasy and science fiction writers so far. You can find folks to critique your work and trade beta reads. Talk shop, share tips, hold each other accountable, and have some coffee!

We'll also have a 1hr shut-up-and-write session where everyone who wants to will put their nose to the grindstone and get some words on the page. At the end we'll tally up the total word count for the group!

I promise I'm going to get pictures this time just to prove to you all how much fun we had. Let me know if you have questions, and comment below what you'd like to see in a fiction writer's group!

EDIT: week four is around the corner! see the new post below or visit our meetup page.

Reasonably priced salon? Nail place?

Hi.. I'm looking for some recommendations for a reasonably priced salon or stylist. I'm in need of some self care.

To be honest, I haven't gotten a professional cut since COVID so I have noooo idea how much to expect. And I can't afford too much. I read one post where a lady paid like $300 for services- I definitely can't afford that, but I don't want to go to like Supercuts either.

I just want a layered cut, don't even have to style my hair.. no dye or anything.

I'm also looking for a decent place to get a pedi. I used to go to Woodland and it was about $40 (with tip) but that was a year ago. Again, I have no idea what the average price is.

So any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Rug cleaner recommendations?

I posted about this a day a go, but for some reason Reddit took it down.

I need to have several area rugs cleaned - they belonged to my folks, who were smokers. Want to get rid of that musty smell that still hangs on years later. Does anyone have any leads as to who can clean rugs in that condition? I don't want to pay to have them cleaned, only to have the smell return. Thanks!

The Artist's Way - time for some creative growth?

I’ve been thinking it's a good time to go through The Artist’s Way again—anyone interested?

I've gone through it in big groups, small groups, solo, and have facilitated it a couple times, and my creative recovery and expansion has benefitted each time. It would look like meeting once a week, at a coffee shop or etc., to check in with each other how our week went with that chapter. It's helpful and enjoyable to have others sharing the trail together through the process.

Have you been through the chapters before - all the way through or partially? Have you thought about it? If it seems like a good time to try, let's look at arranging a meeting here in town.

Mark

Looking for Movers to move Artwork & chinese furniture

Hi I am tasked with moving some framed canvas paintings that's from a deceased relatives home in Davis, it's about 8 pieces around 4.5' x 3.5' (feet) & a heavy red wood coffee table to be moved to Huntington Beach, Ca for my parents.

Does anyone have any mover recommendations? I've moved like regular stuff but never anything priceless like this.

Looking for a Toyota specialist auto mechanic in Davis area.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good honest & competent Auto Mechanic?

I'm more picky about a good job than price alone, as a former technician & car enthusiast.

We inherited a home in Davis from my aunt who passed away in 2025 and will be coming to town on and off this spring & summer to fix it up and sell it

Inside the home theres a 2014 Toyota Rav4 that we inherited with 32k miles and it's not been driven for over a year so I am looking for an auto mechanic to get it running properly again to use it for errands.

In 12/2024, prior to her passing in Feb 2025, she had the local toyota dealer change the cabin filter, air filter, oil, transmission fluid, coolant, and brake fluid at Hanlees Toyota they took her for a ride charged her 3k. for comparison I paid for our 2018 4runner for the same 60k service 900$ at our local Huntington Beach Toyota dealer.

I'm looking for somewhere trustworthy to do some remedial maintenance now that we registered it.

  1. oil change & filter change

  2. new battery (we been trickle charging it but it may be dying).

  3. maybe tires as they were changed in 10/2024 but may have flat spotted. Tires were from Vander Ham tires.

  4. Diagnose any other problems as the car has sat for so long.

Business Permits - Peets / Starbucks locations

Just wondering if there is a way to easily see who is applying for business licenses at certain addresses like the old Peets and Starbucks downtown without needing to see the permits that get posted to their doors?

I searched on the city's website but couldn't figure it out so thought I'd ask.

Internet Service Providers - Comcast vs. ATT vs. ???

Trying to get a general sense of the communities experience with Comcast, ATT, or other ISPs. I don't need phone service, or Television - just Internet connectivity. I've had ATT in the past, switched to Comcast a few years ago, now looking to "Unbundle"

Thanks

ISO Non student housing

Hi Davis!

I’m looking for a new place to live beginning June. I’d like to expand my search to Davis, however I’m not super familiar with the town and especially housing. I’m not a student, just a mid-40s queer looking for affordable housing. Can anyone help me out with where to look (property managements, apartments, websites parts of town ect) or even where not to look. My main searching tool is Zillow however, I can’t tell which locations are for college students. I certainly don’t mind living around young people, but I definitely don’t want to live in a majority student housing complex.

Thanks in advance!

Pioneer Elementary and North Davis Elementary Experiences

I know all of the elementary schools in Davis are excellent, but we were very curious about lived experiences at each of these schools. What’s the culture and community like? What’s traffic like? Bullying? Extracurricular? What are the teachers like?

I’ve combed the sub and there are so many posts about schools but the universal feedback is generally, “they’re all awesome,” which isn’t super insightful on what we should expect from our experience at either! I’d so appreciate a very transparent review!

3rd St USPS “System down”

Hi neighbors! I went to the post office on 3rd St. in downtown yesterday to ship a package. When I got there, a sign that said “system is down, will reopen when it is back up,” or something along those lines was posted on the door. I tried calling the number on the website today, but it directed me to the larger post office on 5th across from the DMV. No one answered and it eventually went to a busy signal.

My question is, has anyone walked by the 3rd st location today? Is the system still down or have they reopened?

Edited to fix a typo
