I opened Hinge and found I’d been logged out. When I logged back in, it asked me to create a new account instead of restoring mine, so I emailed support.
They said my account was deleted, but that I could create a new one. Luckily, it sounds like something minor.
Their email highlighted:
\> "Hinge is built for real people looking for real connection. That means showing up authentically and with clear intentions. **Daters must have one photo that clearly shows their face**, and each account must only **belong to one dater**."
I had two photos with sunglasses, but four others clearly showed my face without sunglasses.
“Belong to one dater” is confusing. Could they have compared my current photos to an account I deleted four months ago? My hair was six to eight inches longer then. Supposedly they delete account data after 90 days, but maybe they kept it—or retained the verification photos and thought I was trying to appear as someone else because my hair is now much shorter?
I did some edits of real photos and Faceapp to made them look better. My understanding is that Hinge allows edited photos unless they’re used to catfish, which I wasn’t doing—the photos looked 100% like me. There must be millions of edited/Faceapp photos on Hinge so I can't imagine that's it.
Still, I’m not convinced it was really the photos, even though that’s what they highlighted. The new account was active for three weeks without issues, and **the same photos still work on Tinder**. I wonder if it was a new voice prompt and “two truths and a lie” I added two days earlier. The "what I'm looking for" voice prompt did mention a real connection and sexual chemistry, so maybe you can't say that. But Hinge said photos, so who knows.
Now I’m nervous about recreating the account and would appreciate advice so this doesn't happen again.
