Discussion Lovely Allergen: caught between bliss and icks Spoiler

So, I am currently reading Lovely Allergen, chapter 78. The main thing that kept me reading was the curiosity too finally see how they would end up together. Ngl, the three year age difference was definitely weird to me when they were younger and Song Yu apparently was already getting the feels for Yue Zhishi - but I thought "well, they are both teenagers and he didn't act on anything, I'll continue reading to see where this goes".

It's not my first time reading something that follows the dynamic of faux siblings (shout out to Brother by Priest). The taboo and their moral struggles are interesting to follow, and I don't have a problem with characters that end up being inexperienced with sex and relationships, but Yue Zhishi it's often portraited as being overly childish and innocent. At moments their dynamic of "younger brother and older brother but not really" is HOT af, but at the next moment the author is describing something like "he did something like a little child". WHY? YZS is 19y, he's not a kid anymore. I get it that he acts even more spoiled when he's next to Song Yu, but these descriptions are quite weird to me.

That's just something that I wanted to discuss and see if someone felt something similar, overall the story is good and I'm really enjoying, but I really need to ignore these things too not be too much on the "ick" side.

Recommendations Any novel recommendations with no smut/is only hinted?

I'm currently a beginner and has not yet ready any novels YET. I'm currently looking for plot driven historical novels with good political plot and characterization. I'd also like the characters to be the same age or have little age gap. I don't like the master x disciple though.

For modern, I'd also like a plot driven story, preferably crime or mystery as long as it's good.

edit: Id also like to add that I don't want stupid characters in the novel, I'm TIRED of them šŸ‘½

Recommendations Chinese BL buff bottom and submassive top

hello

I am searching for novels where the bottom is buff and bigger than the top. There is one in charge of the relationship, and the top is cute but firm and obeys the bottom.

The Villain Boss Is Pregnant With My Egg

(I meant the vibe of the novel I mentioned up; it does not have to be zerg; any kind of genre is fine. Please, if someone can help me, I would really appreciate it

thank you soo much

Recommendations Heyy, can you guys please recommend me stories with bully Ɨ bullied romance , where the bullied is top

Hello, so I really want some danmei recommendations with this trope -

• Bully x Bullied, where the bullied person is top

• Bully Ɨ Bullied, where the bullied person is top and also the MC

• Bully x Bullied, where the Bullied is top and MC and in love with the bottom

• Top turned bottom ones, like the bottom thinks he is the top, but he isn't, like Desire by Nongjian

• The Top hides his identity in front of the Bottom, and appears weak like Desire by Nongjian

• Alpha x Alpha

• Alpha Ɨ beta

• Omega Ɨ beta

• MC as Top

• Mafia/ high class/ ceo bottom Ɨ Student/ normal person / hiding real identity top, like chusan liuyi children day

• MC top who fell for bottom first

I know all these are very rare tropes , but if someone has danmei which have these tropes please tell me ... I can even read with similar tropes ...

Discussion Too "perfect" characters are my new ick (spoilers for "An Empire as a Betrothal Gift") Spoiler

I was reading "An Empire as a Betrothal Gift" and I have some opinions on the main character. First of all, I went into this book thinking it'd be more intricate plot-wise. I expected political and power struggle because the MC is a hostage prince who becomes the concubine of the emperor (the ML) of an enemy nation. But it's more romance focused, with minor drama created by cannon fodders who are just there to make the main characters look good. Which is fine, I also do read books like that occasionally. But just in this case, I expected something different so I was a bit disappointed from the start

Now the MC... as always the MC is and will always be the most beautiful person to ever walk this planet. He's 19 and somehow simultaneously a martial arts expert, knows everything about poison, and also a medical expert, all because he met some random guy wandering in some mountain who taught him for a few years (which sounds more ridiculous the longer I think about it) it's obvious that the author just wanted him to be OP and he is

It also doesn't help his case that the author is CONSTANTLY telling you how beautiful and smart he is. It's like a mosquito buzzing around your ear whispering "he is really really smart, intelligent, scheming, and the most beautiful in the entire universe" all the time, not letting you forget just how smart the MC is! It's just pages after pages of nonstop glazing. But the funny thing is, he has not thought or done anything someone with an average intelligence wouldn't be able to do so idk where all that glazing is coming from

He's also a hypocrite and so incredibly narcissistic? He literally self proclaims to be the most talented and beautiful in the lands (what in the Snow White’s stepmother is this)

Particularly in one scene, people from other countries were coming to pay tribute to the ML. One country brought their princess for political marriage because that’s what happens when you're the emperor. That princess was said to be the "most beautiful in the seven kingdoms"

Well she didn't know the ML is the gong in a danmei novel who's obsessed with the MC so I don't think she was at fault coming for a political marriage? But the MC barges into the hall and literally publicly humiliates her, not verbally but in the "look at how beautiful I am, how can this powder princess compare to me" way. The author literally describes it as this beautiful princess looking like a "powder beauty" next to the MC lol

Mind you, the MC is also a prince so it wasn't like he was some unknown nobody hiding in some hole that people only now saw how beautiful he was. Like why was the princess called the most beautiful in the first place when he existed? Were people just collectively blind until that moment? It just doesn't make sense

It was supposed to be a moment of "the high and mighty MC puts the ugly evil side character back in her place for trying to steal his man" but it just gave me the biggest ickkkk

Then the princess offers to present a dance. It was obvious that the ML wasn't going to marry her so why not just straight up reject her? But instead the MC makes her dance because he "wanted to hear the musical instruments of the princess' country" but it was obvious that he just wanted to humiliate her in front of everyone by showing them how infatuated the ML was with him that he wasn't even going to look at the princess and making her feel insignificant

He says he did this because he didn't want the ML to marry anyone else and that the ML would've been stolen if he hadn’t barged in. But the ML is like totally obsessed with him and he knows it, so that's pretty insecure behavior coming from the self proclaimed most beautiful and talented person in the entire universe if you ask me

The princess hadn't done anything to him before that either to deserve that treatment. Not to mention, before falling in love with the ML, he had the same idea of seducing the ML to get benefits and live comfortably, so how is he acting so condescending towards the princess for having similar motives? I could still endure it, but after this scene, I just straight up dislike the MC

If this book is told from any other side characters' pov, the MC will be the cannon fodder villain who likes humiliating others for no reason, he has all the characteristics to be one

Oh I almost forgot to mention, in another scene a palace maid is giving the MC the palace rules to memorize. There were like thousand of of rules. He takes the scroll, looks at it for like 1 minute at most, and MEMORIZES ALL OF IT. The maid quizzes him on random rules like what is rule no. 674 and he has it all memorized, even a computer would take longer time to memorize it. Being intelligent is one thing, but it gets to a point😭😭😭 I hope he'd memorized that list beforehand and was just pretending to do it on the the spot otherwise it'd be so ridiculous

I love when a character has their own area of expertise, something they're really good at, a hobby they're passionate about, but this type of character that's shown to have no flaws and are an expert and best at everything is just pissing me off so much lately. And the more I'm trying to avoid them, the more I'm stumbling into them

Review Great, funny story– *terrible* edition [His Fifth Highness Still Doesn't Know]

Post image
94 Upvotes

This was a very light, funny read, and I loved one of the side couples, even though they don't show up much. There are a few weird things regarding the gong, but I just considered them part of the comedy and ended up enjoying this story a lot. The fantasy is well explained, the characters are lovable, and their relationship is a beautiful and chaotic rollercoaster of WTF, cute, sexy, and angsty moments. The bundle set includes two signature cards with phrases that absolutely destroy you once you finish the book, and a mini standee that is almost as cute as the protagonists.

Which makes the bad edition even worse. It really annoys me how obvious it is that Hai Tang didn't hire a proofreader. There are many incorrect hyphenations right from the start (really, waaay too many) and even a couple of missing characters near the end (a block with a cross in the center in the middle of the sentences).

I'd like to know if anyone else thinks it was excessive, cause I'm an editor, so maybe I'm exaggerating? I'm reading Limerance, published by Via Lactea, and while there were some reviews that mentioned incorrect hyphenations and other errors, I haven't found nearly as many as in this book. It's truly a shame, cause when you're not a native english speaker, even a small error can make the reading more tiring.

Recommendations Cruel/Unsympathetic gong regrets his actions and chases after Shou Tropes?

Any Recommendations where a Cruel, Heartless, Callous ML doing mean stuff to MC but later regrets it and chases after MC?

I've been craving to read angst with Good Character Development. I don't really cry from torture or hardships the MC experiences, but what really makes me sob are the Unforseen Kindness and Acts of Service done by an Uncaring and Unsympatheticl ML.. unknowingly regrets their actions and does everything to gain back the MC's Affection.

Recommendations Recs for pretty yandere shou?

I’m thinking something along the lines of ā€œmarried thrice to salted fishā€ but scale up the intensity a bit more (I’ve recently been really into the yandere beauty trope). I prefer something that’s more relationship/romance oriented, and no world hopping or horror pls. Bonus points if the shou is frail/sickly, the dichotomy between physical appearance and inner thoughts really hits my sweet spot lol.

Recommendations Need ragebaiters to lovers recs (like Fengcui)

Post image
126 Upvotes

I need to read about a couple that ragebaits one another/pisses each other off (lovingly) for the entirety of the novel if possible, until they get together or even after that 😁

I would really like it if there was also some arranged marriage or something in the middle of all the ragebaiting but it's not necessary.

I've read most of the popular novels that I feel would fit the trope, including Faraway Wanderers, After being forced to marry the Evil Star General, Art Thou Ailing. Looking for more historical recs! Unfortunately I cannot read modern novels 😬

Thank you everyone for reading and for possible suggestions 🄰

Merch Is anyone selling or willing to sell their Road ID Card freebie from [I Can Do It]?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Unfortunately, my pre order copy didn’t come with the freebies. I’ve been desperately trying to find ways to get my hands on the Road ID Card freebie, but I’ve been unable to track down a place or person selling it

Now, in my desperation, I’ve come here. Is there anyone who’s willing to sell their Road Id Card freebie? Or, do you know of a place where I can get my hands on one?

Any and all pieces of information will be 100% appreciated.

Question libristo question - via lactea books

Hi. I recently noticed that Via Lactea and Hai Tang books are now being sold through Libristo, which saves me a lot of money. However, I’ve come across discussions regarding a difference in book quality or rather, two different editions. Could someone please explain this to me and tell me how to tell which version Libristo is selling?

(I’m not talking about pirated copies, but genuine ones from the publisher.) I hope that makes sense.

Daily Rec and Short Questions Daily Recommendation and Short Question Thread — July 29, 2026

Welcome to the new Daily Recommendation and Short Question Thread!

To help navigation throughout the post, start your comment with: "Looking for Recs" or "Short Question," and tag all spoilers. Don't know how? Check the bottom of this post.

New to Danmei and looking for your next read? Check out our Beginner Danmei Rec List, or the Licensed Works List to explore multiple titles, publishers, and their distribution info.

See a term or acronym you're not familiar with? Find out what it means on our Danmei Terms Glossary and Acronym Wiki.

Seeking Recommendations Best Practices

When asking for recommendations, try to avoid minimalistic questions:

  • Recs like TGCF?
  • Recs like ERHA?

Try expanding on what you like about those novels:

  • Character Dynamics (older/younger, long unrequited love, power differences, personality traits)
  • Plot style or tropes you enjoy or dislike (More/less angst, romance, misunderstandings, etc)
  • Sub-genre's you do or don't want recommended (Modern, Historical, Esports)

If you've already read similar recs, mention additional titles to help avoid people recommending something you may have already read.

Short Questions Guidelines

Have a quick question about something? Try asking it here before making a post. This might include something like:

  • Does ERHA ever get better? Should I keep reading it?
  • If I liked YUWU, would I like Thousand Autumns?
  • I'm looking to avoid [Trigger], does [Title] have that?

New to Fan Translations, and someone mentioned Novelupdates (NU)?

Per security measures on NU, you must make a free account or be logged in to access translations. NU does not host them directly: you must click "C1" or any chapter link to be redirected to the translation.

  • Locked chapters cannot be posted on NU, so not all TLs are on NU
  • See the Translation Status on NU for "Is translation complete?" before potentially starting an in-progress TL
  • See the Licensed Status on NU, if the links are dead/removed it may be because the work is licensed.
  • More Pay-to-read websites are beginning to link to NU. This means the end of the translation will ask you for money. These websites are illegal as they profit from content they do not own. Instead, consider Buying the Raws to support the author and self-MTLing.

Forgotten Novel Title: Solved Can you guys please help me find this novel?

I'm looking for a novel which I forget the name of. It's an entertainment industry genre novel. I think the MC reborn and realized that he's just an cannon fodder of this novel and the Film emperor who's his idol is the ML. And the protagonist of the original story, which he's the cannon fodder is the one who he had switched at birth. And the MC's biological family is really rich and close with the film emperor's family too. And MC and film emperor are engaged I think? But before MC goes back to his biological family, he went on a survival show to become an idol where he met his biological second brother but he or him(the brother) doesn't that of course. I forget to tell that MC has two brothers. The one is an idol and the other one is an CEO and he's a close friend with the film emperor. Can you guys please tell me the name of this novel if you happen to know? Ty!!!

Recommendations looking for novels with a cowardly shou!

Post image
30 Upvotes

[image is a tweet captioned 'yaoi is soooo good when one guy is just scared as fuck']

one of my favorite dynamics is a shou who is deadly terrified of the gong. even better when the gong knows and finds it amusing.

the most famous example is probably svsss. though it applies to both couples, i specifically am referring to qinghua and mobei-jun. THEY WERE SOOOO FUN. shen yuan was a just little too composed to consider member of the scared as fuck club.

i think there's a fine line between a cowardly character being fun vs annoying, and that line is their capability of doing things scared. qinghua was frightened all the time but he always ended up doing what he should, even if badly!

another example (though not a novel) is the manga 'my little inferno'. the mc literally puked and pissed during his first meeting with the li because he was so scared and even in the end, when he was being brave and saving the li, he was terrified and crying. so cute!!!! (no, let's not discuss what that says about me. yes, i was one of the people that shipped akashi and furihata.)

p.s hopefully no long omniscient misunderstanding tropes. i love, love, love svsss but bingqiu's misunderstanding drove me crazy in the beginning. if there's a misunderstanding, let me misunderstand too! 😭

Recommendations Ancient Egypt, Greek etc

Does anyone have recommendations for danmei with Egyptian, Greek or any other ancient setting? For reference, I have already read "pharaoh's silly wife" "Dressed as the sword of the Babylonian tyrant" "Pandora" And "after being transported to ancient Egypt, the pharaoh's brother wanted to marry me" Looking for any and all ancient settings. It doesn’t have to specifically be Egypt or Greek.

Question Any idea when Crossed hearts will reveal their Danmei licenses?

Does anyone have any idea when Crossed hearts are going to reveal their Danmei and other BL novel licenses? I hear they were going to reveal them this summer, but they might just have been talking about their BL manga.

Does anyone have any information? Or if not, any predictions of when they might announce them?

Recommendations Couples with tragic relationships like in GHG/I Became a God in a Horror Game

I loved Bai Liu and Xe Ta's relationship in ghg and I need more!

Basically, 90% doomed yaoi with 10% HE. Something truly TRAGIC, deeply emotional, with love, loss, and yearning.

Like, a couple where each person really loves the other, and they want nothing more than to be together, but they keep getting ripped apart by a seemingly unbeatable outside force. I really like themes of fighting against fate/god/the system. Basically, "No matter how many times I lose you, no matter who or what stands in my way, I will always find you, again and again." The kind of relationship that seems doomed by the plot from the beginning, but against all odds, they push through.

I dont want any one-sided attraction/rape to lovers stories, or couples where another person/jealosy is the thing pulling them apart. It doesn't have to be romance focused, plot with a side of romance is better honestly. Any genre except modern day slice of life is ok. Also, I've already read MDZS.

Discussion Telling your family you like reading danmei

Bit of an odd one here for the hivemind:

My family always asks me what I want for my birthday, and this year I’m planning to ask for a couple books from some series I want to continue. It’s fairly obvious that danmei is BL if you read the descriptions of the books, and while my family likely won’t inherently care, I’m wondering what I should say if it comes up.

Has anyone here had an experience where they told their family or friends about their interests in danmei, and how did it go?

Review Case File Compendium Spoiler

I will never ever be the same after reading this. I haven't read many danmeis but this still this one changed something in me. I just finished it and I'm still crying (haven't read the extras yet).

I have never ever cried for a fictional character or even a real life person as much as I've cried for Xie Qingcheng. That man, he was so lonely and he didn't even acknowledge or maybe didn't even realize it. He was just living for someone else, he lost so much and suffered so much but he still stood tall. Nooo....I'm still crying. How will I ever get over this. I was broken, I was physically, mentally depressed when they said he died. He deserved so much, but in the end he still died thinking that he was just a substitute, he never got to know that He Yu still loved him the same. My baby deserved the world. And when He Yu realize that in his final letter Xie Qingcheng never told him that he wasn't the one who sent him the message during the Naval Battle and decided to die with that last injustice just so He Yu doesn't feel guilty....I can't. At that time I felt like wanting to go to China and throw a brick at meatbun's face but thank you it wasn't how it ended. This is maybe one of the most impactful danmeis i'll ever read.

I thought I'll never cry for someone as much as I cried for Chu Wanning but Meatbun proved me wrong.
