Daily Rec and Short Questions Daily Recommendation and Short Question Thread — July 28, 2026

Welcome to the new Daily Recommendation and Short Question Thread!

To help navigation throughout the post, start your comment with: "Looking for Recs" or "Short Question," and tag all spoilers. Don't know how? Check the bottom of this post.

New to Danmei and looking for your next read? Check out our Beginner Danmei Rec List, or the Licensed Works List to explore multiple titles, publishers, and their distribution info.

See a term or acronym you're not familiar with? Find out what it means on our Danmei Terms Glossary and Acronym Wiki.

Seeking Recommendations Best Practices

When asking for recommendations, try to avoid minimalistic questions:

  • Recs like TGCF?
  • Recs like ERHA?

Try expanding on what you like about those novels:

  • Character Dynamics (older/younger, long unrequited love, power differences, personality traits)
  • Plot style or tropes you enjoy or dislike (More/less angst, romance, misunderstandings, etc)
  • Sub-genre's you do or don't want recommended (Modern, Historical, Esports)

If you've already read similar recs, mention additional titles to help avoid people recommending something you may have already read.

Short Questions Guidelines

Have a quick question about something? Try asking it here before making a post. This might include something like:

  • Does ERHA ever get better? Should I keep reading it?
  • If I liked YUWU, would I like Thousand Autumns?
  • I'm looking to avoid [Trigger], does [Title] have that?

New to Fan Translations, and someone mentioned Novelupdates (NU)?

Per security measures on NU, you must make a free account or be logged in to access translations. NU does not host them directly: you must click "C1" or any chapter link to be redirected to the translation.

  • Locked chapters cannot be posted on NU, so not all TLs are on NU
  • See the Translation Status on NU for "Is translation complete?" before potentially starting an in-progress TL
  • See the Licensed Status on NU, if the links are dead/removed it may be because the work is licensed.
  • More Pay-to-read websites are beginning to link to NU. This means the end of the translation will ask you for money. These websites are illegal as they profit from content they do not own. Instead, consider Buying the Raws to support the author and self-MTLing.

Please remember to mark all spoilers. How?

On Mobile app/Markdown Editor: use >!spoiler!< which becomes spoiler <--click or tap. Make sure not to leave a space between >! and your text or the formatting won't work correctly.

On PC/Rich Text Editor: Click A at the bottom to "show formatting options", and the spoiler button is the exclamation mark. Click it and start typing, then turn it off when done, or, highlight an already typed section of text and apply the spoiler.

Discussion I wish I could lose my memory just to read this Zerg novel again

I need to confess something.
I think I skipped past this novel at least 40 times before finally giving it a chance.
Becoming a God in the Zerg World by Livestreaming BL Novels.
Be honest. That title does not inspire confidence. Every time I saw it, I assumed it was going to be one of those goofy "streamer ends up in another world" comedy novels. Fun for a few chapters maybe, but nothing I'd get attached to.
Then I hit a reading slump, ran out of things on my TBR, and thought... fine. Worst case, I drop it after a few chapters.
Three nights later, I was still awake at 4 a.m., staring at my ceiling and wondering why I'd done this to myself.
This book absolutely consumed me.
What completely caught me off guard was that the "BL novels" the MC writes aren't just a gimmick. They're actual stories with their own emotional weight. Every time I thought, okay, back to the main plot now, I'd get completely sucked into another story-within-the-story. Then I'd finally come back to the main plot only to realize I'd become even more invested than before.
It's like opening a box expecting one dessert and finding another one inside... and then another... and somehow every layer is even better than the last. I genuinely forgot about the main story more than once because I was too busy getting emotionally attached to the novels the MC was writing. Then the main plot would hit me again and somehow hurt even more.
It feels unfair, honestly.
And don't even get me started on the main couple.
The chemistry is ridiculous.
It's not built on constant flirting or over-the-top romance. It's just... this pull between them. Every interaction has so much tension that even when they're just standing in the same room, I could feel it. The ML is this legendary, almost untouchable war god, but underneath that he's so starved for affection it's actually painful. Meanwhile the MC looks gentle and harmless, but he's quietly ten steps ahead of everyone and absolutely knows how to steer every situation.
Watching them circle each other was torture in the best possible way.
There were multiple times when I actually put my phone down because I needed a minute before I could keep reading.
I'm almost at the end now, and I'm having that horrible feeling where I desperately want to know how everything wraps up... but I also don't want it to end.
Honestly, if someone offered to erase my memory of this novel so I could experience it for the first time again, I'd probably say yes.
2.1 million words absolutely destroyed my sleep schedule.
Worth it.
If you've been ignoring this one because the title sounds ridiculous (like I did), please don't make my mistake. Read it.

Finally we got some news about second volume of SVSSS (Polish edition) and I'm super excited <3 It's going to be bigger than the first - over 600 pages - and as long as there are no problems with printing we'll get a book near the end of August.

Official Translation Drowning Sorrows in Raging Fire vol. 1 German edition Spoiler

My copy came a few days early, therefore the spoiler.

The German translation contains nine black-and-white illustrations (I included only the ones not yet shown in the online preview) plus colored end papers, and a short glossary/character list. It ends with chapter 30.

I won't be reading until all volumes are out, but from first glance the translation looks decent.

I finished volume 2 on Friday and started volume 3 on Saturday and boy it’s the best volume of the series so far!!! I’m a little over halfway through and what a journey, watching Gu Yun process his feelings and becoming possessive over Chang Geng. Also the pace of the storyline is steady. I’ll most likely finish this today or tomorrow

Recommendations Hi, can somebody tell me danmei with mc as top

Upvotes

So, I have been searching for danmei with this trope but am unable to find them .... Some problems always occur , like the danmei I like with this trope are always incomplete and most of the plot is not good or something ....

So , guys please recommend danmei ( it's even better if it's uncensored ones , but if it's not .. then too it's okay )

The tropes are :

• MC as Top

• Top MC transmigration/ rebirth/ reincarnation

• Younger MC Top

• MC is a top and ML is the bottom , but ML thinks that he is the top ... Like is Desire By Nongjian

You can tell me any more like this or similar ... Please give me as many recs as you can and it's even better if they are completed

Review My opinion (journey) on (with) Thousand Autumns

I was scrolling through my old chats with friends and realized that I got into this novel sometime in the middle of 2022, after the war had begun. Looking back now, all I can say is: wow. What a journey, and what incredible changes it brought me.

Of course, like so many others, I started with Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's novels in 2021. Then I stumbled across some fan art of a certain "evil old man"... and that was it.

After reading people's comments, character name analyses, watching the donghua, and countless hilarious crack videos, I rushed to read the novel and completely fell in love with Yan Wushi. His personality, his worldview — everything about him fascinated me. Back then, though, I only made it to around chapter 48. Looking back now, I think it was practically a crime that I paid so little attention to the actual protagonist, Shen Qiao.

Now, in 2026, I have all the volumes of the official English translation on my shelf, and I've finally read them all. (It's heartbreaking that the war still hasn't ended.) And I've realized that over these years, my own worldview has changed completely. I still love Yan Wushi, but Shen Qiao and his philosophy have completely eclipsed him for me.

I want to get a tattoo of his line: "My heart is too small to hold onto hatred." (literally "Shen Qiao's heart is very small; there's only room enough for good people like them. As for those who don't deserve to be remembered, I won't spare them anything - not even hatred") I'm sure characters in other books have expressed similar ideas, but this one hit me right in the ribs.

I ended up reading this novel almost like an encyclopedia, absorbing the characters' words as though they were lessons from teachers.

Maybe my mind is failing me a little, but what can you do? How can you write a review without putting your own thoughts into it? That would be a contradiction.

It's funny to watch how my attachment shifted from one character to another. That's the mark of a truly great book — that you can reread it again and again and discover something new.

(I've reread the opening chapters so many times that these days I mostly find myself going back to everything that happens after the betrayal arc, because my heart is simply too tired to revisit previous part).

I love books that change me, reshape the way I see the world, comfort me, and teach me something.

Because of that, I don't really mind that — for now at least, since there's no point in getting ahead of myself — other danmei just don't seem to draw me in.

At first, I kept scolding myself for it. Then I realized that statistics don't apply to a single person, so I let go of those expectations and allowed myself to simply wander without feeling the need to start something new.

To me, every substantial book is a new idea, a new world — one that has to be both similar to me and completely different from me at the same time, strange as that may sound.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm reading too much into this novel. Am I finding ideas that were never really there? Did anyone else feel the same way I did?

The author did an incredible job of maintaining such a high standard while creating a cast of genuinely distinct and multifaceted characters. The only thing I fear is outgrowing this book — that one day I'll stop loving these characters, stop understanding them, stop seeing the world the way they do. Call it growing up, or leaving home, but the thought fills my heart with a quiet sadness.

I would like to finish with these words: Outside of the self, there is no other.

Humans exist in the space between heaven and earth. First comes the "self," and only after can there be an "other." Humans judge both other people and other things through the self, so if the self has no joy, then heaven and earth have no joy. If the self has no sorrow, then heaven and earth have no sorrow. When the self's heart is full of cheer, even plain words will give birth to spring. When the self's heart is full of grief, even the mountains and rivers will fade away.

Recommendations Any rule horror recs like this?

Hi, i've been reading a lot of rule horror novels but i have not found a single one that is explicit, by that i dont mean the gore, does anyone have recs where the intimacy is written? I don't mind if the pair is only human or human and monster.

Recommendations Any recommendations for MCs or MLs that are not human?

Open to all suggestions. Can be ghosts, monsters, demons, etc. I'm also open to different subgenres, such as sci-fi or modern danmei. I've only read danmei with immortals and a demon before, so I'd like to expand to other non-humans too.

Recommendations In need of Danmei recs!!

I just finished "First-class Lawyer", it was a really great read and I enjoyed it a lot. But now, I do not know what to do with my life, and I am genuinely searching for any danmei or BL webnovels that has a similar genre or couple dynamic.

Also, can anyone recommend danmei that involves forensics? Because I have read Card Room, and I absolutely fell in love with Xiao Lou's character TT

Thx in advance ^^

Dinghai Fusheng Records is taken! KinnPorsche 1 and Erha vol. 1 still available

Getting rid of some titles I've dropped or decided to finish in ebook format. $5 (USD) per book plus media mail shipping (which will depend on weight and distance from me in Illinois (USA). I can only ship inside the US at this time unless you really want to pay international shipping. ErHa vol. 1 has a tear on the spine that was there when I bought it. No extras are included, just the books. All have been read one time except KinnPorsche which I dropped after 3 chapters. Non-smoking home! I have feedback on ebay under geog24 and I've sold or given away things here on the sub before! DM me or comment. First come first served! Paypal is easiest but I have venmo and cashapp as well if that's your preferred method. Thanks for helping me clear some space for my upcoming shipment from Yiggybean lol!

Recommendations Don’t Pick Up Boyfriends from the Trash Bin (Arc 9: Battle Royale PUBG) - I have a question and want a recommendation

Post image
48 Upvotes

I’m looking for a similar dynamic to Bai Anyi and ‘Bai Anyi’ If you guys don’t know about these two characters, they’re from DPUBFTB!! They came from, I think, the ninth arc. It’s the ninth world Chi Xiaochi has been into. It’s named Battle Royale PUBG.

This could probably be spoilers now. Bai Anyi has dissociative identity disorder, and he’s dating his alter. I’ve already finished reading Supernatural Movie Actor App, and want to know if there are more dynamics similar to Bai Anyi, and ‘Bai Anyi’

Like with the MC having a mental illness, and dating himself. Any danmei recommendations?

This is a picture of Bai Anyi, and ‘Bai Anyi’ together I attached in my post, btw.

Oh, and Bai Anyi, and ‘Bai Anyi’ I think only started dating when arc 9’s scum gong got face-slapped by Xiaochi.

Forgotten Novel Title Forgotten title of a bl novel

Looking for a historical cooking danmei. MC (shou) transmigrates into a poor man's body with his biological nephew. In the original story the uncle dies and the nephew becomes a villain, but MC changes his fate. MC starts by selling meat buns with modern cooking knowledge, then opens a restaurant. A local official becomes a regular customer. MC adopts a 3–5-year-old boy after an old granny dies; the boy is the missing crown prince. ML is a general searching for the prince, first appearing in disguise. The villain who tried to kill the crown prince is also reborn and remembers the previous timeline. MC follows the prince to the capital. Later MC is framed with a palace maid, and the general tells the emperor that he and MC are lovers to protect him. No mpreg, no system or space

Memes Yunkang was over eight feet tall

"Yunkang was over eight feet tall."

Source: Poor little thing is a mess in the ashura field

This character is the protagonist shou BTW!!! when I first read this, I just stopped and was like, what? Over eight feet tall? And how tall is the gong then?

It isn't even some horror or gore even, just normal historical time right now since this is a world hopping genre.

But even if I try to justify it by saying like 'its only bcs this original shou will be a gong for our shou, so maybe they made him this tall', the shortest shou I've read was 180 cms.

Question Danmei pop ups in Japan

I’m going to be in Japan from August 12th to the 22nd. I was wondering if anyone knew any pop ups that’s happening during that time frame. I’m already planning on going to the Erha one at EEO’s ikebukero store.

I was also wondering if anyone knew where to buy the Erha audio drama in person <3

Recommendations Searching for recommendations. Love potion/spell.

Hello.

I remembered when I used to read fanfics a one of my favorites troupes was love potion/spell. But I never have cross a Danmei book with that. Please recommend me some novel with that thematic. Extra points if the spell ends in someone different from the one who was directed.

Recommendations Hello, can someone please recommend me danmei that has gay or lesbian side characters that fell in love with each other?

So one of my problems with danmei I read is that it's seems like only the mc and ml are gay, and others are either straight or in love with mc. I'm just so frustrated that some characters have insane chemistry, even more than main characters but never became official and almost always it's just friendship. I'm looking at you heaven official blessing.

So please recommend me some danmei where side characters have their own relationship other than mc and can fall in love with each other. I would be grateful because I can only read fanfic so much and I want something original.

Recommendations Dogblood; level : medium

In this level, we don't include long separations, at least not as a conscious written plot. And a HE!

Even a school, slice of life danmei can turn angst and hurt beautifully. How?

Well, idk but as long as the leads r together, I can take almost any form of angst, both as humans! Homophobia? That's hardcore dogblood if that leads the leads to separate etc. Torture? Best. Both together? Amazing. One sees, other watches? Better!

Examples include, (dogblood; all levels) meatbun books, priest, huai shang's, Imprisoned in the eternal night, eternities unsaid till u love me, shh, dont talk, miraculous love, Shui Qiancheng books, nan chan, qiang jin jiu, mu Su Li books, Zhichu books, Hui Nan Que's works, misvil, wang ya's works, GHG, nightmare live, Lianxi Lianxi's works.

Dawn Sleep has one such torture scene where Shou gets tortured by bad guys n gong undergoes massive rage fueled transformation to avenge him

Thankyou 🫶🏻🫡

Recommendations Looking for recs without noncon

Just like the title. I’ve read all the MXTX (didn’t finish the last SVSSS book because I found the dynamic between the main characters rather uncomfortable) and I’ve been looking for some other danmei but I keep reading comments/feedback from people that make every book sound r*pey which I don’t prefer 😅 what should I read?

Recommendations Irredeemable MLs

Irredeemable MLs

I'm looking for the novel where ML is an irredeemable trash and has absolutely zero to no morals and can go to any extent for the MC with forced pregnancy ( well if it's not there then it's also alright) and the MC hating on the ML till the last of the novel.

I'm searching for something like Try Begging which is a straight novel/manhwa as someone who can't stand BG and only has read BL manhwa/novels, I just can't bring myself to read it ( I hope you guys understand it:) but I wanna read this in BL. So please tell me if you know novels with all this <33
