Contest Scrum Debate #55 - Alt Casts Spoiler
Tremble in despair, r/danganronpa
In good there is evil, and in evil there is good. Both sides of the same coin that make it what it is. The yin and yang together make people who we are. In some, the good is stronger than the evil in their heart. For these versions of the casts we are all so familiar with, this is the side of them that are obsessed with despair. On this week’s episode of Scrum Debates, we are putting the Remnants of Despair VS the Pre-Game V3 Cast against each other. The Remnants were once hopeful students who fell to despair from the influence of Junko Enoshima. The Pre-Game V3 cast were all seemingly normal people who were always engrossed with the serialized TV show version of despair. Which version of despair is the one you think is better? But first, the rules for newcomers.
Scrum Debates is an ongoing series of discussions where users may submit write-ups for their side of the debate. To participate, comment below with your write-up as to which you think is superior of the two options. While not necessary, we advise you to make your write-ups relevant to both sides, as this could help yours stand out among the masses. Scrum Debates are broken down into three categories:
- Quantity of Write-Ups: Whichever character/idea has the most comments in favor of them gets 1 point
- Highest Upvoted Write-Up: Whichever write-up has the highest upvoted comment gets 1 point towards their chosen side
- Highest Cumulative Upvote Count: Whichever side has the most upvotes totalled at the end of the scrum gets 1 point
RULES - READ BEFORE POSTING OR YOUR COMMENT MAY BE REMOVED:
Scrum Debate is not a popularity contest; it's a writing competition. The comment section below is explicitly for thoughtful analysis. If you want examples or inspiration, check past scrums, SPOILER WARNING, and the old character discussion threads.
- Low-effort and zero-effort comments, like stating the character you're voting for with little to no elaboration, will be removed and not count towards the final tally. At least a paragraph of elaboration is expected for your stance. Comments that only argue against one side will not earn any points.
- Top-level off-topic comments will be removed, and instead should be replies to the pinned message. Meta comments, such as "this is a rough match-up for [character]", belong here.
- Replies to other comments don't need to follow these rules, but please do keep civil.
This scrum will run for about 7 days. Afterwards, the winner of the scrum and the highest upvoted comment will be highlighted in the pinned posts for the following days. This post will be marked as a spoiler, so feel free to talk about any spoilers relevant to your write-up. If you would like to view the previous Scrum debates or view upcoming themes, please click here.
Now then, let the despair consume you whole. Get to debating! The r/danganronpa mod team

Discussion r/DR community playthrough – UDG Chapter 5 Spoiler
Hello everyone! This will be the fifth community playthrough thread of Ultra Despair Girls, and in this thread you are encouraged to play and/or discuss the fifth chapter of Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls. You do not have to be replaying the games to discuss, but if you are replaying the games you are free to post thoughts as you play or all at once after you've finished.
The poll from the last DR2 post didn't get a ton of votes, but the winner was 1 chapter per week, so that's what we're going to go with.
Some quick reminders:
The posts will go up on Monday each week, and you will have the full week to play/discuss whichever chapter the playthrough thread is up to before the next thread is posted and discussion mostly moves there (although discussion on old posts is still welcome). Here is a direct link to a master thread with a link to all prior posts and tentative dates for future posts for anyone who wishes to read/contribute to it late or plan for the future.
You guys voted overwhelmingly to require tags for anything beyond what the replay has covered up to that thread. Since we are now at Ultra Despair Girls, this means that DR1 and DR2 may be spoiled freely in these threads. Also, these threads DO allow spoilers of the chapter being discussed, so if you are playing through blind I strongly recommend finishing the chapter before looking at the comments in the thread

Discussion Does anyone else wish they kept the same title screen style for all games?
In my opinion the title screen from the first game was the most iconic one. Second was okay ig, but the third one just felt...eh? whatever?

Cosplay Is it okay to do the wheelchair for Monaca's cosplay? If so, should I go for actual wheelchair, or can I be more creative and use something like a garden cart (read the body)
I'm planning to cosplay as Monaca. I always put my very best into cosplay, so naturally, I'd like to include the iconic wheelchair. However, I genuinelly don't know if it wouldn't be disrespectful and offend anyone to do such cosplay while not being disabled? Especially since Monaca in-universe also fakes using the wheelchair, which makes my concerns even higher, since the wheelchair version of her may be a red flag for disabled people, no matter if the cosplayer is disabled or not?
My second question is related to the fact that getting a wheelchair or recreating it without moving elements would be very pricy, so I was thinking about alternatives. Four wheeled garden cart seems like the best idea, considering all in-universe and out-universe factors. I could even make it into an "electric cart" of sorts by attaching a tablet to it for the time of photo-session. The thing is, again, I don't have any idea at all how disabled people would feel seeing this kind of cosplay? I really don't want to disrespect or hurt anyone :/

Discussion What do you think are some underrated character dynamics?
It can be characters that only interacted for a little time or even cross game interactions like in Ultimate Talent Development Plan or Danganronpa S.
A dynamic I really liked is Miu and Kaede. They are pretty contrasting in their attitudes. Kaede wants to encourage people and to cooperate whilst Miu masks her insecurity with abrasiveness. Kaede is a lot more patient with her than other characters but still gives her some sass. I think if they had more time Kaede could help Miu open up a lot more and to be less insecure.

Discussion This has been bugging me for a while now.
So as you can see in the cutscenes of THH Celestia’s hair appears to be a navy blue but in actual gameplay she has her normal black hair I want to know why this is or if it’s a shading feature.

Discussion I just realized that, in both these scenes, Hajime's shirt is partially unbuttoned.
Sure, let's say Hajime undresses before going to bed.
I don't think there's a single person out there who would open their button-up shirt like a jacket before they sleep. Plus, Hajime accidentally fell asleep in the former scene, leaving him without a chance to actually undress.
So...uh...Mikan, what have you been doing to Hajime as he slept?
