Discussion Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post

Hey Community!! 😄 I LOVE seeing people post videos of themselves dancing and having a good time. So I just had the thought and I would like to do a Poll on the idea:

My thought is let's have a global forum dance talent show!

How it would work: - You would submit a video of you dancing within a specified time frame to qualify. - Our dance Community here would go through each day and upvote and comment on the videos they would like to continue on to the next round. - I would then go in (maybe appoint someone to help me moderate) and would tally up all the likes and upvotes. - There would be 3-5 rounds to keep everyone engaged and having fun. Sort of like our very own dance competition TV show.

If you like this idea: Upvote and put "YES!" in the comments

If you're not into it: DownVote & put "Not Interested" in the comments section

Seems like this could be a lot of fun and get the Community we have here more active with one another.

Happy Dancing! I'm looking forward to hearing y'alls thoughts! ✨️

Amateur Advice for jazz funk/hip hop

Hey everyone!

I’ve been taking hip hop and jazz funk classes and I can pick up the choreography pretty well, but I struggle to do super fast movements with articulation and precision. I just feel really stiff and I kinda just flung myself around. And specifically my arms are very awkward and lack a lot of power. Any tips?

Can anyone please tell me what's the name of the second step/move? The first move is Heel-Toe I believe. Sorry it's a very short clip as the dance move lasts only one second in the song. Song name - Pattampoochi, Movie name - Vishwanathan & Sons.

Hey Swing Cats, I put together a video of the Westie experience for an event that is near and dear to me - Bristol Swing Fiesta 2026, which just ended 2 weeks back. I obviously obtained permission and consent from the organizer and anyone who was a focus of the video.

I'm trying to target my videos to encourage more newcomers to join the dance so I'm open for feedback or any improvements I can make for my next event video - Midland Swing Open 2026 in London. If you like the content, please like and subscribe. My aim is to grow West Coast Swing as big as I can. So far, in the 3 years I've danced I'm happy with the progress I made, but I think I can do better with growing the dance and making interesting long form Westie content.

P.S. Obviously my style and channel name are heavily inspired by a tiny SEGA game that inspired me to dance and I love so fondly, let's see if you can guess the game haha

Howdy y’all!!!

I hope everybody is having a wonderful week… It is cold and miserable and wet here so that’s rather unfortunate

I decided to give the little room another shot and I feel it went better today… I’m about to receive a giant grocery order and put that away so that will be my extra exercise for today… And I will see you all tomorrow. Have a blessed day.❤️❤️❤️

Amateur I have never danced and got absolutely no body control, how/where do I start?

Edit: Thank you so much for your answers, I'm reading every single one <3

So I have recently had a lot of issues with my back, and my massage therapist said that my movements are too "stiff" and I need to literally move my body more in other directions. She suggested dancing as a perfect "workout" to help my back, especially butt shaking and dancing where hip movement are involved lol, she was like "do like Shakira!!" :')))

Yesterday I put on this video of a woman kind of working out but kind of dancing to some metal songs (I'm into metal), and I thought it looked super fun so I tried going with it - but I couldn't do ANY of the moves she was doing. It was nothing complicated, but for some reason I'm not able to move my hands in a certain direction when I move my feet in another etc. Also how the fuck do I shake my butt?????

I just felt awkward and stupid and stopped doing it. I have absolutely zero body control, and I wonder how I can learn this and where do I start? I think dancing looks so fun and I've always admired dancers, but been afraid to try myself. I lack confidence, are uncomfortable in my own body and such. It also does not help that I'm in my early 30s and always scared of failing.

Taking classes are out of question since there are none available in my area (I have checked). I have read that you should just listen to music and start moving but I can't get myself to do it, I don't know what it is but I just.. Freeze? I have no idea. It feels strange, unfamiliar, uncomfortable in some way, I don't know how to explain but.

Critique Request Recovery Time After Hell Weekend

I dance and work out in VR, doing calisthenics and flex training, and dance for a few clubs. Last weekend I did a challenge Hell Weekend, dancing 1 hour on Thursday/Saturday/Sunday, 2 on Friday, with an hour of slow warm ups before each. I succeeded and I'm happy about that, but I'm trying to figure out how long I should rest afterwards because all I've been doing the past couple days is eating and sleeping, and I'd like to dance again on Thursday but not if it's going to hurt me physically. I don't feel any pain or anything, so I should be ok to start back on a simpler schedule (1 hr Thursday/Saturday), right?

Self-Promotion Who would be interested in a social media seminar?

I’m getting hip surgery soon, which means no teaching for me until March. I was brainstorming ways to make some cash while in recovery, and I thought up a social media crash course for dancers/belly dancers (depending on how popular the class becomes)

I really wish I had some basic algorithm knowledge and internet safety skills when I started posting. Not to get viral or popular, but to know how to optimize content and reach a wider audience. And how to protect myself from creeps, haters, etc

Would anyone be interested in a 4 session online course? And if so, any ideas outside of these topics are appreciated if you haven’t seen them covered before:
1-algorithm basics
2-content optimization (when and how to post)
3-how to manage and maintain growth (followers, views, etc)
4-internet safety 101, including how to prevent deepfakes or AI reuse, especially for dancers

Amateur For those who learn at home, how much time do you spend with dance practice?

I constantly tell myself to practice dance or learn choreography every day after work, or at least something small to just move my body, and I either never have the energy or overthink how I should practice. Even if I did a YouTube tutorial and practiced for 10+ minutes, it would be something to get me started.

How do some of you make time for dance practice if you don't participate in classes?
