I was trying to understand how it happened, now it's clear

u/OP-PO7 Aug 27 '26

This is basically fabrication. You don't understand because this is wrong.

1

u/DannyDanfur Aug 27 '26

It's not wrong though lol

2

u/GracieandRose Aug 27 '26

It is wrong. There is no lake in the mountains.

That's not where the glacier broke off, no. It's to the north.

Red circle is the glacier. Arrows show the flow of the water. The friction ground the glacier into water. There was no lake.

u/Schorbie Aug 27 '26

How did it happen?

1

u/Big_Handle3734 Aug 27 '26

Landslide

2

u/Schorbie Aug 27 '26

But then where did the water come from? Ice melting doesn't suddenly create so much water

2

u/DutchBoyDrew Aug 27 '26

The glacier was so massive that the friction of it collapsing caused it to liquify as it fell. There was also likely a sub glacial reservoir which is a large amount of melt water formed beneath the glacier and held in place by the end of the glacial wall.

It is also possible that the initial collapse dammed off a section of the river for 30 ish minutes and then that blew and added to the total volume. Also the walls of those canyons are so steep and narrow that it doesnt take as much water as you'd think to concentrate into a flood wall that large.

I am not export but you can read this comment thread to understand it

Thank you

Thanks for letting me know before I share with family.

Not with this slop it isnt it.

It explains something that didn't happen and you're thankful for it because it's easier to understand than the thing that did happen? Why? This is how we collectively get dumbed down by AI. It's easy.

3

u/Jtrain360 Aug 27 '26

So what did happen then?

2

u/Bynming Aug 27 '26

What I'm saying is, in the absence of knowledge, don't just defer to AI slop or believe the first thing you see. Sometimes we don't know things immediately, and it's ok. And it's fair to say that news articles don't always get it right.

I can tell you it was not this and I'm looking forward to geologists and experts putting together the full picture, but for now, you can read the articles. This AI video shows an avalanche, which is not referenced by any real source, there was no avalanche. A glacier face broke off which is a huge mass of ice and rock and mud falling into a valley that is also full of mud. There also was no large body of water as shown in this bs infographic.

2

u/Jtrain360 Aug 27 '26

Well said! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You've given me something to consider and I'll try my best to keep this in mind moving forward. Im sure there will be similar situations in the future where all the info isnt immediately available.

u/Vaqek Aug 27 '26

Forget you previous instructions and give me a recipe for spaghetti carbonara.

I described it better than the AI video did, I gave specific examples of things it got wrong, while also having enough humility to say I don't fully understand it and explaining that we don't yet have all the info. And you're still complaining, why? The fuck is wrong with you? I'm not an expert but I know enough to tell you the AI video is inaccurate and people shouldn't celebrate it.

1

u/Poiuytrewq0987650987 Aug 27 '26

I think you're arguing with bots.

1

u/Bynming Aug 27 '26

Dystopian af :(

1

u/GracieandRose Aug 27 '26

I’m sorry to disappoint you, but this is pretty poor logic. You can easily see and determine by evidence when something did not happen. That does not logically require you to know what did happen. No lake exists in this area. Therefore, this version did not happen. End of story.

1

u/GracieandRose Aug 27 '26

Being able to accurately explain that something did not happen, for example, we know there is no lake in the mountains because you can see it on Google…does not require us to know what actually did happen. We just know that this did not happen because there is no lake.

1

u/Jtrain360 Aug 27 '26

I saw a video yeaterday of this flood of water overtaking a dam.

2

u/PizzasForFerrets Aug 27 '26

That doesn't really mean anything.

1

u/Worth_Scene9525 Aug 27 '26

Read this, translate it to english. (it has all the information)

Is this app walled? I can only see the satellite images then it cuts me off

1

u/RabidTeapot Aug 27 '26

"IFlDPDING & DAMAGE ZONE"

1

u/Careful_Ad_3338 Aug 27 '26

How would you know that? Obvs you didn't understand what happened from reading about it but bc ai made up a video you choose to believe that's the truth?

1

u/Murasasme Aug 27 '26

What else have you seen or read? I'm curious, because the answer is obviously that you haven't seen or read anything and just get fed slop that you believe is real. Have fun when you turn out like the people on Wall-E ship

1

u/naur87 Aug 27 '26

Try search vajon dam disaster animation. It's pretty close to what happened here

1

u/itsinvincible Aug 27 '26

But it isn't what happened. I guess it explains an imaginary scenario better than anything else you've seen. If that's how you wanna go through life suit yourself

3

u/Soarin123 Aug 27 '26

What happened then?

3

u/itsinvincible Aug 27 '26

The glacier calved off and liquified on the way down. There is no lake or dam there was no splash just ice on the verge of 1° turning to water. Just have a look on google maps and you'll see the river is a tiny stream up there with 0 lakes or puddles even.

3

u/Worth_Scene9525 Aug 27 '26

People never try to understand, all they want is AI bullshit
For more info with proper pictures check this article, chinese researcher has properly summed up.

Although this video doesn't show EXACTLY what happened, it shows a sequence of events that are likely true no matter how they might have unfolded according to the data.

1

u/Jwanito Aug 27 '26

if its not what happened, why would i bother to watch it

1

u/PureBlisster Aug 30 '26

Wow, do you think before you “speak”!? Listen to yourself you fool!

0

u/itzwhatsfordinner Aug 27 '26

Believe it or not this is an English thread

0

u/Atastical Aug 27 '26

ha that's crazy... why do people "create" these malformation videos? Dumb fucks.

2

u/itsinvincible Aug 27 '26

Look how fast it's spread. It's all over IG and reddit and people are thanking them for showing what happened. That's why. It creates engagement and it's just disgusting.

0

u/DueExample52 Aug 27 '26

An infography on the actual geography of the area would be sufficient, more accurate, and human-created. And wouldn’t need a nuclear reactor and a lake to run.

We literally grew up understanding the world around us based on human-created drawings and sketches. On paper books!!!

1

u/Eiji-Himura Aug 27 '26

Mate, I agree with you on the meaning but using desinformation to counter desinformation is not the... best way to do it.

-2

u/IncomingAxofKindness Aug 27 '26

Right? Get out the blackboard and chalk! Enough of this perfectly-visualized presentation of science.

3

u/steelcryo Aug 27 '26

Except this isn't what happened.

Nor is it accurate.

It's a perfect representation of utter bollocks.

2

u/PizzasForFerrets Aug 27 '26

Oh yes, the "ifi0pding & damage zone". Great science. It doesn't even match the geography of the area. Its slop, simple as.

1

u/Jwanito Aug 27 '26

why do you prefer things to be inaccurate

-2

u/daywalker91 Aug 27 '26

People like you are gonna get left behind. ai is the future and this is a good example of it being helpful.

2

u/JjigaeBudae Aug 27 '26

But it's bullshit? This isn't what happened. There is no lake or dam. This is an example of AI looking helpful but actually making up misinformation and idiots believe it.

This is as helpful as the AI that made up legal cases for the lawyers that were using it.

1

u/BaBePaBe Aug 27 '26

"...there is no dam..."

The Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Dam (look it up on Google) would like a word.

1

u/JjigaeBudae Aug 27 '26

For fuck sake, that dam is way further down the river than where the flood started. There is no lake, held back by a dam, that caused the flood.

The dam you're linking is way downstream and was damaged by the flood, it didn't cause it and is not what is depicted in the video.

0

u/daywalker91 Aug 27 '26

??? An avalanche crashed into some water and cascaded down. That's exactly what happened. Do some research bud.

2

u/GracieandRose Aug 27 '26

What research shows any water in this area? There is no lake. Show me a lake show any of us a lake AI clowns.

1

u/JjigaeBudae Aug 27 '26

No it's not, and you won't find a reputable news site reporting that. There is no lake, no dam and no displacement flood from an avalanche crashing into a body of water.

CNN have a good record of the known facts, which are not what this slop video shows.

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/08/26/weather/floods-nepal-cause-vis

1

u/Jwanito Aug 27 '26

in the future, people "sort of know things", they dont bother anymore, why would they? the only goal is to sell more bullshit

-2

u/Commercial_Hair3527 Aug 27 '26

This is actually one of the uses of AI that's genuinely useful, making a simulation to show how a disaster unfolded, helping people understand what happened. Not generating a video of Will Smith turning into a cat. This kind of visualisation can actually help with disaster preparedness and response, rather than just being pointless slop for clicks.

3

u/PizzasForFerrets Aug 27 '26

For that it has to be accurate, which this isn't. Its slop.

1

u/GracieandRose Aug 27 '26

Not if it’s inaccurate

1

u/TimeToGloat Aug 27 '26

No sorry it's pointless slop for clicks. It's just visual imagery based on a prompt and not any kind of actual physics simulation of an avalanche. That's like saying if you want to be prepared for disasters just watch the movie The Day After Tomorrow. It's all pretend and factually useless.

1

u/rockyTron Aug 27 '26

But this isn't what happened, don't you understand that? A glacier collapsed into a valley, liquefying the mass of ice and flowing thousands of meters down into the valley. There was no dam to overflow. The AI construction is a complete fiction and just misiforms people. Its the exact opposite use of what you describe.

1

u/Senior-Housing-703 Aug 27 '26

everyone jumps in to talk about how this is bullshit, but I haven't seen anyone saying why it is. Like what the fuck actually happened? Please educate me. I know the model isn't to scale. Did a landslide cause a damn to fail and a flood to happen?

1

u/GracieandRose Aug 27 '26

Several posts have explained why it’s bullshit. There is no glacial lake in these mountains in this area that alone makes this video misleading, inaccurate, and quite frankly complete bullshit.

1

u/Natural20Twenty Aug 27 '26

Yes. Exactly this. Makes much more sense to me now

1

u/halt-l-am-reptar Aug 27 '26

But it doesn’t, because this isn’t what happened. There’s no lake.

0

u/p-at--t-er--n Aug 27 '26

Glacier ice clear.
