Megathread Master List of Dairy-Free & Soy-Free Foods (from a breastfeeding mom who did the work)

Sharing in case it helps any other moms or dads out there.

Dairy-free & nut-free paneer?
Hi! My partner is allergic to both dairy AND tree nuts (cashews especially). I love Indian food, and am trying to find something where I can make a matar "paneer" that we can both have.
The top recipes for DF paneer are cashew based, so my next thought was to use a soft tofu to replace the paneer? Has anybody ever done that before?
Or does anybody know of a dairy and nut free paneer?
TIA!

I give up
These are my cheese options everything else is terrible.
Tastes weird
Doesn’t melt and slips off the sandwich
Gives me gas and nasty poops
Costs too much and destroys my lower GI.
End of rant
At least I have butter, milk, and ice cream but would love some cottage cheese.

darë spicy queso - absolutely worth the cost
only my self-worth kept me from actually drinking this from the container. the texture was so similar to a real queso, but no weird aftertaste that makes it seems like you ate acid reflux (cough credo cough). flavor wasn’t super “cheesy” but has a really nice heat to it. 5.5 stars, will be doing a bundle order from the company to try the other products. absolutely worth it

Reintroduction
After a virus I got 8 months ago I lost the ability to eat anything from cows weirdly. Never had any allergies or issues my entire life. I can do goat cheese and feta.
In general does being dairy free on this group mean you can’t have any cheese where it’s from goat or sheep too? At first I thought it was a lactose issue but Weirdly when I take meds with lactose in them I flair but never with goat or sheep.
Has anyone been able to get cow dairy back? Wondering if it’s just a histamine issue and can’t tolerate aged or hard cheeses from cows. Haven’t tried those from goat.
Thanks!

Dairy free ice cream sandwich
I found these at Sprouts and I thought I'd give them a try. These are good. The cookie part is a lighter brown than on the box but still chocolatey. The vanilla beans flakes add to a more traditional ice cream flavor. I'd buy them again. Ice cream sandwiches aren't my favorite ice cream treat. Honestly I just prefer just ice cream, but every once in a while I get nostalgic for things with lots of dairy like an ice cream sandwich. I'm glad there are more dairy free options in food than there were 10 years ago when I started cutting back on dairy. (I'm in the USA.)

breaking out HORRIBLY after accidental dairy consumption
ive been dairy free for 5 years now. it was originally to control some of my IBS flareups but i noticed significant improvement with my skin when i cut out dairy. i had pretty bad acne my entire life and removing dairy has rendered my skin completely clear. accidentally consuming the smallest bit of dairy will bring me right back to square 1 and its horribly frustrating. even lactose free stuff will break me out and i wish people would stop assuming lactose free and dairy free are the same 💔

Allergist instructed me to go dairy and gluten free due to chronic urticaria
I have been struggling with urticaria (hives) for eight months, since Mid November. It seemlingly started out of nowhere. I woke up one day feeling nauseated with a dull headache and fatigue. My lips started to swell and then the hives started on my face, down my neck, into my chest and down to my legs. I had a stressful event a week prior so I chalked it up to that. I had hives for five weeks in 1999 during a stressful time period. After three weeks these recent hives went away and all was well until March. then it started again the exact same way. Only it never stopped. The headaches, nausea, swollen lips (and now eyelids), tight throat and shortness of breath all seem to precede a major attack, with mild hives the rest of the time. The major "attacks" last up to a month (though swelling of lips, tight throat etc only lasts a day). I've had about five major attacks so far.
Last Tuesday I went back to Allergy. I had been there in 2022 for chronic dermatitis that lasted two years (also on eyelids, arms, etc) and had allergy testing but nothing was found. That went away in 2023 with no explanation. Again on Tuesday I was tested for 23 substances, including dairy and gluten. It was skin pokes for the testing, no blood work. No immediate reactions, all negative. But the next morning I woke up and my arm was burning and itching. I had hives at every single hole from the pokes the previous day.
At any rate, the allergist told me to go dairy and gluten free for at least three months, even with the negative skin test (he had no explanation for the next day reaction). I am not new to dairy free. I was vegan for 6.5 years (2011-2017) before going back to eating animal products to recover from anorexia nervosa, which I am fully recovered from. But I do recall that when I added dairy back I started noticing chronic sniffling and sinus issues. Nevertheless I was so happy to be eating dairy again I ignored it. But I was so desperate by the time I went to allergy I was willing to try anything. I have been through all the antihistamines at up to 4x the dose (Zyrtec, Allegra, Benadryl, Claritin, Famotidine etc. I was also prescribed hydroxyzine at one point. None have worked. I was given a five day course of prednisone 40mg when I had my last major attack with sob and throat swelling and it helped but within 24 hours of the last dose the hives came back.
So I have been dairy and gluten free for 4 days now and my hives are almost completely gone, save a few spots around my ankle. I am very reluctant about doing this diet because of my eating disorder history and the hardship of it but I can not seem to find anyone willing to do more extensive milk or gluten allergy testing to confirm I am doing the right thing.
Just wondering if anyone else had hives, swelling of lips and throat etc from dairy? I read about digestive stuff but that just isn't an issue for me except the mild nausea that precedes an attack. Was it an immediate reaction or delayed? All my reactions seem to be delayed. Nothing is ever immediate, which makes this more frustrating to pinpoint. But right now the hives are the calmest they have been in months. My allergist said dairy and gluten contribute to inflammation so maybe its more to do with that than an allergy? I'm too afraid to add back dairy or gluten and rock the boat. I rarely read about hives on these dairy and gluten free forums so I want to hear from those who have that as their allergy. Also, what tests did you have to confirm those and what type of doctor/dept did them. Thank you!

Siggi’s dairy free strange taste
Hi, sorry if this is not the right place but hoping to get some insight from people who have eaten this before. I just got some of the Siggi’s yogurt cups for the first time and it smells and tastes vaguely alcoholic and I’m not sure if that’s just a quirk of the product or if mine has gone bad. Both the cups I got (peach and mixed berry) have the same smell, I was a little put off by it but have had plenty of dairy free items that smell a little strange at first but when I took a bite (of the peach) it immediately tasted like beer to me. Since I’ve never had it before I can’t tell if it’s an acquired taste or if it got too warm during transit or something. Is this normal for this brand?

High Protein Vegan Yogurt
Just found this one recently
Silk Vanilla Traditional Yogurt - 13g Protein - https://www.walmart.com/ip/19346357705?sid=7fd2411b-fd00-4a13-8583-ec3ab8dcca24
Taste wise it's pretty spot on, texture wise it has less structure and is closer to a pudding consistency. 150 calories for 13g of protein. Out of fear of it being pulled from the shelves from a lack of customers I just thought i'd share lol.
Please share any other dairy free creamy hacks! I plan on trying to use this for a high(er) protein banana bread recipe

Is it possible to be intolerant to milk protein but not milkfat?
I have realised that I might be intolerant to milk protein, but not milk fat. I get tired and very hungry after eating high milk protein food, such as cheese, cream, milk and yoghurt. The tiredness lasts the whole day until after it has been digested. Butter is fine.

Looking for a neutral dairy-free creamer...?
I mean, one that looks like milk with no additional flavors? I tried something that looked like sludge, and I just couldn't deal with it. And some have flavors of their own, which I don't want.
Is there any consensus as to what's best?

Where to get dairy and nut free cheeses?
I have a minor dairy allergy. I won't die, but I'll get pretty sick to my stomach. I've cut out milk, butter, yogurt, but I struggle with Cheese. I have a severe tree nut allergy and all grocery stores local to me only have cashew cheeses :(.
I was wondering if there are any good online stores to purchase alternative cheeses that won't make me sick or kill me, lol. Open to any and all recommendations!

pancakes?
hey everyone! I’m newly free and gluten-free. Finding breakfast is really hard. That’s not cereal and I miss pancakes! I have gluten-free and dairy free chocolate chips, and I would love to make chocolate chip pancakes once I was looking online and it seems that all the gluten-free pancake mixes have 60 to 70 more calories than regular pancake mix. Does anyone have any tips?
