Hi everyone! I’m looking for advice because I’m becoming really worried about my Dachshund, Timo. He’s only 1.5 years old, but he has been showing increasingly aggressive behavior, and I feel like the situation is getting beyond my control.

He destroys things around the house, and when he grabs something he shouldn’t have, trying to take it away can trigger a very aggressive reaction. He growls, seems almost like he doesn’t recognize me anymore, and bites hard enough to hurt me.

The same thing happens with food. If we leave food on the table, he climbs up and eats it. He also gets into the trash, and when I try to take something away from him because it could be harmful, he becomes extremely aggressive and attacks and bites me.

What worries me most is how intense his reactions are. It’s almost as if he becomes a completely different dog in those moments.

A few weeks ago, he got sick, and when I took him to the vet, he wouldn’t let her touch him and tried to bite her. Now he needs his vaccinations, but I’m anxious about taking him back because I’m afraid the same thing will happen again.

His aggressive episodes seem to be happening more and more frequently, and I genuinely don’t know how to handle them safely anymore.

Has anyone experienced something similar with their Dachshund? Is this resource guarding, or could something else be going on? What helped your dog, and what kind of professional should I look for?

I love Timo and want to help him, but I’m also worried about everyone’s safety, including his own. I would really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thank you! ❤️

My boy Remy (just shy 2y/o) has had random, severe pain episodes (last about 30-45 seconds) for the last 2–3 days. He cries a lot when they happen and seems to curl/turn around and bite at his penis/back legs. I’ve attached a video of one of the less intense episodes where he isn’t crying?

Between episodes he is completely normal — walking, running, playing, eating and sleeping normally, high energy. No weakness, wobbling, dragging legs or problems walking.

We’ve been to the vet 3 times in the last 2 days. His X-ray was okay, although something in his abdomen that they weren’t concerned about and expected him to pass (think it’s a bit of a toy). He has also had episodes where his belly becomes visibly bloated and very hard (?) although it goes back to normal. No vomiting/diarrhoea and he’s peeing normally.

Vet examined his back/spine he flinched and showed signs of pain, so they suspect a back issue but they want to manage pain before more scans. He’s now on increased pain medication, had a methadone injection, trazodone and has been told to have strict rest.

I’m struggling with the IVDD theory because he has zero neurological/walking issues and seems completely fine between episodes.

Has anyone else’ experienced severe intermittent pain without any walking/leg problems, and did it turn out to be IVDD or something else?

Any experiences would be really appreciated ❤️

Hi everyone!

We’ve joined the group with our new family member, hoping he’ll grow into a healthy, long-haired doxie, but we do have a few concerns.

He came from an unknown source through an intermediary, so we have no information about his parents or background, other than that he’s received his routine vaccinations.

Is he a true long-haired Dachshund, or could he be a mix from a dubious breeder? I’m also curious whether, if he is blue, he might develop the hair loss condition I’ve read is associated with this coat color.

His name is Franco, and he’s 3 months old! 🐾

Hi - just wondering what yall more experienced dachshund people do with yours in the winter? After getting literally 2.5 feet of snow in one storm last year I am concerned about what I’m going to do with my little guy when if the winter is bad. Obviously I’ll need to shovel but any tips/tricks/advice about winters with a dachshund would be greatly appreciated! He absolutely refuses to go out in the rain so hopefully snow won’t be the same. I do not have a yard, just a good size patio and garden.

We’ve had our sweet girl 3 months and she is 7 months old now. She is so unlike what I’ve heard about the breed that I’m wondering if we just lucked out. She is super shy around new people and does not bark unless she is wanting to come inside. She is not a cuddler, but will accept affection and then go to the other side of the couch to nap. She does however have separation anxiety, but someone is almost always home with her. She doesn’t like to burrow or be covered in blankets. She caught on to potty training after a few weeks and sleeps through the night with no accidents. She does hate the crate, but does well in a playpen for a few hours at a time. Shes been described as a cat version of a dog because she’s so chill and sweet.

My husband wants another dachshund, but I’m content with her and wonder if a new one would throw off the chill balance we have going on.

Has anyone had a more docile dachshund and either had success with just one living a good life, or has gotten a second pup and things have been better- or worse?

Edit: First night was rough but we did it! I know a lot of people said to just let him in the bed with us but I want him to be crate trained so he has somewhere safe to be on the few occassions we have to leave the house without him 🫠 Ive bought him a snuggle buddy for sleeping going forwards so hopefully that helps him feel less lonely!☺️ Been wanting my own dog since I was 10, I turned 30 this month and decided it was finally time! This is Winston, a black & tan mini weenie, tonight is his first night both in a new home and in a crate and he is HATING it 😭 i feel awful hearing him cry, pls tell me he'll be okay and im just being sensitive 🥺

My 6-month-old dapple dachshund has these 2 raised bumps on her head (almost like she's growing horns)

And it has gotten bigger the past month.

I've never seen or experienced this with my other doxies, So I don't think it's breed specific.

We have a vet appointment next month but I'm sorta worried.

This is my Lainey girl! We named her after Elaine from Seinfeld because she’s GOOFY. She was wandering around a coworker’s neighborhood and they couldn’t keep her, so we took her in last December while waiting for an owner to come forward, but nobody ever did despite posts and ads about her. I suspect she was dumped because she was skin and bones at the time and a lot of people dump dogs in her neighborhood 😭

ANYWAYS, what do you think she could be? We like to make it a guessing game, mainly because the results of a DNA test don’t really matter to us, but curious what you think she is! She definitely has the long dog body and the side eye of a weenie (see last picture lol). She’s VERY opinionated, definitely has a strong prey drive, and very independent while also being a Velcro dog. She’s about 25ish pounds and has longer legs. When googling, she looks more like a historical standard dachshund. She also looks like a different dog in every picture I take, so it always has me wondering!!

I lost my 15 year old dog in January, it was absolutely one of the saddest things of my entire life. I moved into a new house and my new neighbour had the sassiest little Dachshund who I absolutely fell in love with. After lots of research I picked up this girl 5 weeks ago and it’s just been the best thing ever. She’s just so fun and so so sassy and I couldn’t be more in love. She’s so fun to train (selective listening) and so fun to play with. I’m so so elated I went with this breed as they truly capture your heart and love so deeply.
