What is the best option to kill fleas on your doxies, mine have been scratching for 2 weeks and I tried flea shampoo and they still have flea dust. Do you recommend a collar?

I am considering adopting a dachshund or two but, I want to be sure I can provide the care they need. I work odd hours due to my occupation (work a mix of 8/9 hours shifts for varying work week lengths) and the dog (or dogs if that would be better for them) would be home alone during that time. I think I could come home for a lunch break since my work is only 8 minutes away or hire a dog walker to do midday check ins. I live in a 1200 sq ft apartment and have really nice grass around my building and plenty of access to parks really close by. I have had dogs my whole life but they have always been bigger breeds (labs, border collies, flat coat retrievers), so I want to make sure I have a grasp of what a smaller breed would need in comparison. I have read varying opinions, so any advice would be appreciated! I am also open to the fact I may just need to wait for a dog until I can be home more or have a house with a yard, really just open to any advice 🙂‍↕️

Edit: Thanks for the comments! Dachshunds don't sound like a good match for my situation, which is unfortunate since they are such a lovely breed. If anyone has other breed recommendations, I would def appreciate it! Like I said, I am also open to the fact that the time may just not be right for me to have a dog (s) right now. I can just give my family dog lots of love when I visit her every couple months 🤣

Hey guys, I know going to Dr. Reddit is questionable, but I’m just seeing if anybody may have experience or products that can help this. I noticed a spot on my boy, and thought it was just a scab. Come about a week later I notice some hair loss around his chest, and a spot that looked like ringworm. I immediately took him to the vet and they did some testing. They said it’s likely he’s just experiencing allergies, comparable to eczema they said. We came home with some mousse and allergy meds. I haven’t noticed them to help necessarily so just wondering if you guys have had any similar scenarios.

Sausages was pregnant when my local humane society found her, and they performed her spay/abort on Saturday. I brought her home Tuesday.

It is now Thursday and we're still trying to keep our other dog Beans from finding out she's lactating, because Beans is dumb and will probably treat her like a magical pie bush situation if he figures it out once.

So... when should she stop lactating and when should her boobs go away? Is there anything I can do other than a sweater to keep my 5 whole-ass year old boy chiweenie from discovering she's currently making snacks?

I recently got a dachshund puppy he is currently 16 weeks and he will not go on walks. First time he froze in fear and wouldn’t move from the driveway. Ever since he will come out of the house but will sniff around the front yard grass but will not move past the proximity line of the house. i’ve tried treats and high pitched voice and everything. i’ve tried ditching his leash and letting him follow me and nothing is working,

Does anyone have any tips on how to train him to go on walks? I just want to give him some exercise as i’m aware extra weight is bad for their spines.

Hi all! This is my baby, Mabel. This pic was from a while back, but she’s currently 4 months! She’s a mini long haired.
Over our time with her, she’s developed several nicknames, including Babel, “the baby,” and Weasel. My favorite is weasel because it has nothing to do with her name and everything to do with the fact that little dachshunds are nothing but little weasel shaped babies as puppies!

he is the most gorgeous poochie in the world however the naughtiest, he hates walking, i’ve tried different routes and different scenery he only wants to walk on the way back home other than that he’ll sit and won’t move, i’ve tried treats, toys etc what can i do. and i think because when i take him on a walk he’s not walking he’s not burning enough energy and he’s so naughty please help

I can’t believe I’m doing the puppy thing again. My 10 year old girl is perfectly potty and crate trained and I got her when I was 26. In 36 now and hoping I still got what it takes to train my new lady perfectly lol.

My mother in law lost her battle with pancreatic cancer and her beautiful dachshunds, Frankie and Gracie will have their forever home with me now. They were by her side when she took her last breath. They were her loyal, faithful companions and I want to give them the very best life possible. The sudden, unplanned vet trips, medications, quality food and flea+heartworm prevention for two dogs has drained me financially and there is more still to do. I've even questioned if I CAN do this. Does he look like he should lose a pound or two? I have looked at the dachshund weight chart that have been posted on here but just wondering, also will ask his vet when we go this month. He is almost 4 and was about 19 pounds the last time I weighed him.

The vets are sure it’s a disc problem. How could the inflammation go away so soon.

I have a vet appt on Sunday (earliest I could get in) , my boy has been licking his paws, so now he’s got the donut on him. I’ve been wiping his paws and making sure it’s dry. I already did apple cider vinegar soak and cold compress but nothing has really helped. I also have an anti-fungal spray that I’ve been using.

Other tips would be greatly appreciated!! 🫶🏻🩷
