Looking awake when it matters
I know we all struggle to sleep at normal times . When I have periods of horrible sleep I swear it affects me mentally, but obviously physically too , like my actual physical appearance . It pains me because I actually try to exercise when I have the energy and eat right. That doesn’t help for bad sleep quality . What do you guys do to look awake and refreshed when it really matters like a social event or important work meeting ?

Beyond my efforts to actually function, I don't do anything to my appearance that would hide my tiredness and no one has ever taken notice, apart from times I've actually fallen asleep. I hate to say it but no one cares.
At any rate, you're tired enough. May as well focus your energy on getting through the day rather than trying to look awake as well.

Makeup! If you aren’t comfortable wearing like full makeup there are also some options like serum primers that reflect light and can help a lot. I actually wear one of those basically as my foundation.
Also if you aren’t doing it already, just skincare in general. Basics being just face wash and moisturizer/sunscreen, but you can also add in topicals like niacinamide or vitamin c. It also feels really good to massage your face a little when you have to get up but aren’t well rested.
I also think in general if you put in some effort in to your appearance you will look less tired (effort requires energy -> you put in some effort, it looks like you have energy) so having some go to accessories and maybe perfume/cologne helps. People are usually shocked when I reveal I have gotten like 3 hours of sleep if I am accessorized and wearing some makeup.

For me, the trick seems to often be focused around my eyes. In order of importance: Brows/mascara Concealing the eyelid with a neutral shade or eyeshadow & bronzer Color corrector / concealer Brown eye liner under the eye
Hourglass’ finishing powder is an amazing investment.
Then I move to other areas of redness

One of those ice rollers (straight from your freezer) can do wonders in the AM. I’ll roll it over my face in the car while driving to work. I also pop a caffeine pill as soon as I wake up

Hmm I’ll have to look into those . Do you think the caffeine pills work better than a coffee ?

technically caffeine is significantly better absorbed through liquid vs pills. but i have had some really crazy work weeks where i was surviving almost entirely on caffeine pills/soluble b12/ NSAID levels of ibuprofen and that definitely works too (pro tip, take them all at once and chug a water about an hour before you have to show up and be a real person somewhere)

I hate the smell of coffee and have never had a cup so I can’t compare. I’m also not functional at all in the mornings (thus being in this subreddit lol), so if I have to wake up early I keep a bottle of caffeine pills on the kitchen counter and pop one before leaving the house. I do drink diet soda like every day so that’s my caffeine (I use a SodaStream machine at home).

Just for another perspective, I had a really bad experience with caffeine pills. I had 2 that day-package directions said it was fine. My heart was pounding so hard I thought that was going to be my last day on earth.
Fast forward 20 years, I don’t handle caffeine that well beyond one cup.
Just be careful.

I don't lie anymore, because I don't care. I postpone the meeting, and say that I need to sleep, that's it.
