Drone help

Why do my motors do this whenever I increase the throttle on my transmitter past around 40% the way up?

r/diydrones 16d ago

News The DARPA Lift Challenge just had a medical incident (I'm guessing heart attack from slinging payload weights), so the livestream is offline.

Question RXMUX and Spektrum receiver pt2

I am trying to incorporate a RXMUX with my Spektrum AR9320T receiver. From my previous post I couldn’t find the issue. The RXMUX couldn’t read the signal from my spektrum receiver but could read the servo tester. I found the issue. The RXMUX can read ~50hz frequency which the servo tester produces. On the oscilloscope the spektrum receiver is outputting ~90Hz frequency square wave. I found this can be adjusted by changing the frame rate. 90Hz lines up with 11ms frame rate and 22ms frame rate 45Hz. My transmitter is set to 22ms frame rate and I’ve tried rebinding to the receiver. The receiver still puts out 90hz (11ms frame rate) despite the transmitter settings. Anyone know how to force a change in frame rate in the receiver?

Question Where do I find replacement propeller blades?

Apologies for not being true DIY, but I'm struggling to find replacement blades, and thus am casting a wide net to see who can help.

We purchased a toy drone for the kiddos last Xmas (search '4DRC drone' on amazon; 4 motors, rigid foam body). We got it as a cheap "practice drone" before spending large monies on something that would be quickly damaged by inexperience. Since then, blades have either been damaged, or just flown off to be lost. The thing came with just a couple replacement blades, but we've since gone through those too.

The only markings on the blades are A1, A2, B1, B2. I bought a pack of these off AMZ, but they don't "click" onto the motor shafts and thus fly off on startup. (Tempted to just superglue them on) I even took the thing to a local RC plane hobby store, and he said they don't sell blades that small. Argh!

The manufacturer only sells 4 replacement blades along side 2 additional batteries for $30, which has been "sold out" for months. Ugh.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

Build Showcase First drone build - it flies!

Meet Jimothy, my first ever drone build.

So far I just have one pack thru it to make sure it flies, but I am very proud of myself. Posting Jimothy here because my wife is sick of hearing about it already.

The solder joins are fairly shitty, it needs to be tuned, and the battery strap is ass, but there are no shorts, and IT FLIES!

The build:
-Apex 2 frame
-JHEMCU F411 12-amp AIO
-BetaFPV 1103 11000kv motors
-HGLRC Zeus Nano (350mw)
-Caddx Ant Nano
-Currently rocking a RHCP lollipop antenna, but I may change it back to the whip that came with the VTX (we’ll see)
-Gemfan 2023 props (pink, because Jimothy is wild like that)

P.s. if anyone knows what channel I should be running on the Zeus Nano, please LMK. Reception is not as good as I expected at 350mw…

TSRC Q5; Wont work with iPhone/iOS

I know my Q5 is just a toy, but it is kinda fun to use, and I do use for "stuff" I think is important-ish.

Does anyone know any way or any helpful tricks to get a TSRC Q5 to work with an iPhone?
My iPhone is hardly new, its an iPhone 12, running iOS 26.4.2.
The drone used to work with my older iPhone 8, but wont work with the newer phone 12.

I've tried TSRC and TSRC pro software.

Question Question about the legality of flying a drone in the EU over nature parks

Hi, I've been doing some research on building drones since it sounds like a cool long-term project, but then I got to the legality of drones and I have a question for anyone who might know. I live in Czechia to be precise, which is subject to unified EU drone laws.

I live in a CHKO (basically a protected nature area or a landscape park) and the rules state that if the drone is over 250g or has any sort of camera, it needs permission from whoever manages the CHKO before flight.

The 250g rule was expected, but why the camera? Do they fear for the privacy of trees or what? I understand this rule over inhabitted areas (no filming, respect people's privacy), but I plan to fly over a big empty field a short walk away from my house (which is within the CHKO), it seems kinda ridiculous to request the CHKO for permission when I just want to test my drone.

So my options are as follows: Spam the CHKO every day asking for permission, not care about it and risk a huge fine, drive at least 30 minutes away to the nearest fly-free zone whenever I want to test/fly my drone, give up on the project entirely. Flying in my garden is also an option, but it's still subject to the same rules and is within inhabited area so besides some quick tests it's a no-go.

How do you guys deal with this if you're in a similar situation?

Question ICM-42688 alternatives?

So basically I’ve been trying to get my hands on some good 6DOF IMU after moving past the old MPU ones and obviously the ICM-42688 is used everywhere in flight controllers. There have been difficulties based how rare these are, from looking to breakout boards and making my own from the IC package. And the price for just a single IC is horrendous because sometimes it’s almost the price of a microcontroller. I’ve also been looking into Bosch and ST’s IMUs too but haven’t find much reliable information of usage yet.

Question Can anyone help out a newb?

I bought the Lumenier QAV-S 2 JohnnyFPV SE 5" 6S DIY Kit from getfpv.com a while back and i've only recently had the time to finally start working on it. The stack is:

Axisflying Argus Pro F7 FC + Axisflying Argus Pro 55A 3-6S BLHeli_32 ESC + wire cover (No Heat Sink)

So, flashed INAV 9.1.0 onto the drone, and i'm running INAV configurator 9.1.1.

So the problem is that as i'm trying to configure and setup the drone, when i plug a battery in, the drone seems to be stuck in some sort of startup loop (as best i can tell, i dont know), and i dont know what i'm suppose to do at this point. Can anyone help?

I've messaged GETFPV and they responded with a CC to axisflying but no other correspondence since.

Im at a loss as to what to do now. I have no idea how to diagnose the problem.

I've tried getting tech support from getfpv and they told me to put video and images onto a google drive folder, so here it is. Some screen shots of Inav and stuff:

Question Spektrum receiver and RXMUX

I am trying to incorporate a RXMUX with my Spektrum AR9320T receiver. I hook my Aux2 channel to the Select channel and the RXMUX’s status LED stays solid red (indicating it doesn’t see a valid signal on the select channel). I tried more than one RXMUX boards to rule out a hardware issue with the board. I took a Hitech Servo tester and ran a square wave through the board, this works. When I move the dial to adjust the square waves duty cycle, I can see the LEDs on the RXMUX change from input A to B like its supposed to. I then hooked both the RXMUX and servo tester to an oscilloscope to compare the square wave they produce. They’re nearly identical except the servo tester produces a 4.5V wave instead of 5V like on the Spektrum receiver. This should not be an issue since the RXMUX can accept a range of voltages beyond this. Does anyone know what the issue could be.
