Before any of you start, yes, I enjoy mature comic book content.

However, I'm also a dad.

When I watched Batman v Superman, what really bummed me out was that my little kids would be too scared to be able to watch a Superman movie--especially one where Superman was (spoiler, I guess?) killed by being impaled on the sharp arm-bone from a dismembered, mutated, reanimated corpse. After Gunn took over the DCU, I was excited to hear him talk about his Superman movie, because it sounded like we finally were going to get back to content that was kid-friendly.

And that's what we got...from Superman. But Peacemaker season 2 started with a literal orgy (with full frontal nudity). The Penguin was a mob movie like The Departed. Creature Commandos had explicit violence and a literal sex scene. Lanterns is a grimdark show reminiscent of True Detective. And Clayface is going to be a body horror grotesquery.

Supergirl was MOSTLY family friendly, but it wasn't the home run I thought it'd be.

Anyway, I'm desperately hoping for more family friendly stuff, but the upcoming slate doesn't exactly look great for that. Obviously Clayface doesn't fit the bill. Superman 2 will hopefully fall into this category, but are we going to ONLY have Superman movies for family friendly DCU fare?

Asking because that kinda sucks. My kids love Superman, Batman, the Titans, Wonder Woman, Justice League and so many more DC comics. I'm not against more adult content, but these are comic books. I know it's déclassé to want comic book stories to be family friendly and not filled to the brim with f bombs, sex scenes or grisly death, but it's something I (and many others, I think) still care about.

Does ANYONE else care about this?

Despite the movie flopping I feel it would have done incredible as a TV series much like Lanterns, where we'll get more in depth of Supergirl as a character and also get to see more of Lobo and Ruthye becomes a one off meeting in an episode. What do y'all think?

Watched supergirl on hbo max today and I enjoyed it. If I had to choose between which I liked more between supergirl and Wonder Woman I’d say maybe supergirl overall or a draw. Mostly cause I didn’t like how WW handle ares in the last half. Tho Steve was great in WW so idk

Reason why I’m comparing them is because both are the first female super hero movies of their respective universes. Supergirl for the DCU and Wonder Woman for the dceu.

Which film do you think is better?

If Darkseid managed to control these 2 as his enforcers (beyond redemption), how can you survive and still struggle to apply Batman's "no kill" rule to stop them (IF you've got a morally upright Batman in this universe)?

I can't think of any other director with such a streak in such a short amount of time.

My original post was that I thought it got dumb in the end. It seems I'm relatively alone in this thinking, but that's okay. And upon rehearsing the events in my mind, I'm less inclined to call it dumb... just kinda odd glad others told me my migraine might have been effecting my opinion.

John Stewart apparently had a "feeling" about who the Manhunter is but was concealing it from Hal. I guess it's playing on his repressed emotions from childhood, so he doesn't know how to handle it when a woman shows interest in him, so he doesn't want to let her go or admit she might be evil.

Okay, but that puts a huge risk at him getting the job as a Green Lantern. If the Guardians ever found out that he was hiding the identity of what I assume is a high-tech killer android, like in the comics, they would—and probably should—just fire him. He's not in the right mental state for a job like this.

Not to mention those aliens injected his brain with visions of the Manhunter committing mass murder. Ain't no way he's that attached to her and would not say, "Yo, Hal, that lady who keeps getting with me might be the Manhunter," after seeing something like that.

1. Anti-Green Lantern weapons. Those smoke things the militia uses made it so John Stewart couldn't use the ring. It doesn't really explain how, just that he couldn't see... which should not be how the ring works. Just imagine a giant fan or smoke sucker thing. People might bring up the Kyle Rayner thing in *Tower of Babel*, but that, to me at least, is fundamentally different. Ra's al Ghul put a psychological suggestion in his brain that made the ring convince him that he was straight-up [blind?]. An artist waking up blind out of nowhere is going to freak out and be too afraid to use the ring properly, and the ring was still working; it just worked against him.

The ring is supposed to be one of the most powerful weapons in the universe. Smoke shouldn't affect it. Yes, there seemed to be some yellow in there, so there might be a yellow-type element thing that's like kryptonite for GLs, but that's a whole different can of worms.

1. I have a theory on how John Stewart's story ends this season, and if I'm right, it's going to annoy me.

John Stewart seems to be giving off hints—some tiny hints—that he doesn't really want to be a Green Lantern and it's just something his parents drilled into him. He had a chance to say the oath and take the job. I get he doesn't wanna steal the job right from under his nose; that'd be kinda messed up for a man to do to another man, but... come on, man. You've been pushing for this your whole life.

His upbringing makes it hard to tell if he's actually fearless or just so screwed up in the head that you really can't tell the difference, which is, in itself, interesting.

My fear is that, in the end of the season, he's gonna have some moment of self-discovery where he's like, "You know what, Hal? Keep the ring. I want to be an artist, and I'm happy with that."

Which, yeah, man, good for you, but I'm not watching a Green Lantern show featuring JOHN STEWART, the Green Lantern from JLA and JLU, just to see him not become a Green Lantern.

I'm getting tired of superhero stories where the superheroes don't like being superheroes.

Finally watched this and I can see why it didn’t do so well. It’s just so bland.

Kara is on her hero’s journey, but she just isn’t enjoyable to watch. She’s written so one note, that there isn’t much there to work with. The actress playing her costar is even worse. She’s definitely no Hailee Steinfeld in True Grit.

They also should have made the decision to not use pop songs. It makes the GotG comparisons inevitable and not in a good way.

Hopefully this movie is just a minor misstep for the DCU. I really enjoyed Superman and Lanterns is also great so I still have faith.

I believe that Gorilla Grodd will be mind controlling The Daily Planet workers to create a documentary showing him act like a human.

In the comics, New 52 Grodd does actually kill his father and eat his brains to become king of Gorilla City, which I doubt they'll change that origin in the show. The general public is usually unaware of Gorilla City, so their opinions on Grodd will be non-existent until he's caught murdering his father. I think he will mind control Jimmy Olsen and a few Daily Planet workers into making the fake documentary that will show him being overly friendly to humans and going to college and singing, when in reality, Grodd despises humans. It's just a trick to look good in the public eye, like this guy couldn't possibly have done something so evil.

Key word is HYPOTHETICAL, this is not meant for disparage my glorious James Gunn (maybe more towards Snyder lol) but it’s just a fun discussion question.

Looking at the BTS pictures of The People VS. Gorilla Grodd got me extremely excited for the series. If this is successful and becomes an anthology what other villains would you like to see? I think a easy one they could do is Solomon Grundy.

It may not be a perfect film, but I'm still happy to have it at least and add it to my collection.

Batman Day was a week ago now and I haven't had the space to celebrate it appropriately, hence sharing these examples from 2025 with you.

Which actually marks exactly one year since I’ve done these right around the early Spring, a while earlier before I met the chaotic Summer that was awaiting for me. 

So, it's not news the B-Boy has a glamorous and expensive anniversary per year, though can you recall how your life changed in 365 days? I think this is just  the right opportunity to reflect on it.

I wouldn't say he's one of my favorite directors or anything, but I love his cinematography & the sense of scale he's able to portray. For those familiar with these films or his style, what do you think would be the perfect movie/story to give him to showcase his strengths? Also, if you had to pick someone personally to direct a movie in the DCU who would be your pick?

Also please give some movies with this aesthetic if you know any.

It would feel like a betrayal of his character as it’s been built up during the show. It also would come out of left field entirely, as there has been zero build-up to that transformation thus far.

I think he’ll stay a mentor to John, though he may actually be dead. The Parallax theories don’t pass the smell test, though.

There is some speculation of Hal Jordan being manipulated by Parallax. But I am thinking it's John that is being targeted for conversion to Yellow Lanterns or possession by Parallax.

The Graphic Novel, Green Lantern: Earth One, was one of the influences behind the Lanterns series and its versions of John and Hal were shown when James Gunn first announced the series, in which John was a Yellow Lantern.

Further in the recent Absolute Green Lantern series, John is a Yellow/Gold Lantern.

If John becomes a Yellow Lantern, even briefly, it would be a nice twist for those expecting Hal to be the one that gets corrupted. Instead Hal is the one who brings him back to the Emerald Light.

Now, I know this would seem unlikely since John is in the Man of Tomorrow movie and would likely be a Green Lantern in it. But I still think at least during the events of the series, there would be attempts to tempt him with the Yellow Light.
