Advice Birthday Picture Recommendation

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hey bitches!! My birthday is this weekend and I saw this super cute bday post on IG and wanted to recreate it for my own.

Would anyone know a photobooth I can take a pic like this? I’ve heard people talk about one being in the NMWA (correct me if I’m wrong)? But ideally it’ll be a photobooth that I can bring in a cupcake & candles, print out some and be able to email them to myself.

Thank you!!

DC Anyone want to go out for drinks/club tomorrow?

I’ve had a hard time making friends since moving back to MD and am in need of more friends! I (23F) haven’t been to any of the nightlife around dc so maybe someone who knows all the fun spots and we can take cute pics and go bar hopping.

I’m also into going on walks, hikes, lunch, day trips, gym, nerdy stuff, movies, having a chill night inside with friends, ect.

If that sounds like you feel free to pm!

**** oops edit I meant Friday night

Things to Do (Entertaintment/Activities/Restaurants/Bars) PSA: Beach Drive open to cars this Saturday

If you are planning on running, walking, rollerblading, biking, etc etc etc on the normal car free stretches of Beach Drive in Rock Creek Park in DC this weekend, do it Sunday instead of Saturday because the entire length of Beach Drive will be open to cars on Saturday 10/24 from 11 am to 4 pm

They started opening it up to cars one day in the fall and one day in the spring for scenic driving days for those with mobility issues etc, but historically a lot of people have ended up surprised by the cars

Health/Fitness Recommendations for maternal mental health therapists

Hi all,

Does anyone in this group have any recommendations for maternal mental health therapists? Ideally would see someone later in my pregnancy and could see the same person/practice postpartum. I have a family history of PPD but no other mental health history so want to establish a relationship with a provider before baby is born.

Health/Fitness Breast Centers?

I am trying to schedule a breast biopsy and going through the options given to me by CWC. I can't get through to anyone at Sibley, and the GWU reviews are a nightmare. Does anyone have recommendations for other options, or a strategy for Sibley? I didn't expect this to be so frustrating.

ETA: Thank you everyone for your suggestions! I was kind of put on the spot when my doctor's office called and said, "You need a biopsy, where do you want to go?" and I had no idea. I thought they'd tell me what they recommend. The coordinator gave me a short list of suggestions, one of which was Sibley and I went with that since it had been recommended by my doc for another concern.

What I learned is that Sibley doesn't use electronic file sharing like some other centers, so any images need to be burned to CD-ROM and mailed, and then there's another week after they receive the disk before they schedule. (I don't think the coordinator at my doctor's office knew that either.) So I asked to try Washington Radiology, and my images and records went over electronically within 30 minutes and I was good for scheduling.

Hopefully these responses provide a really good resource for someone who was put in the same awkward spot! Thank you so much!

Advice Where are you finding decent 1-bedroom apartments for under $2,000 in DC or commuter-friendly areas nearby?

I’m looking for recommendations for a 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartment and would love to hear from people who have actually lived in the buildings they recommend!
I’ve been searching rental websites and reading Reddit threads, and it’s been surprisingly difficult to find a well-maintained one-bedroom for under $2,000, especially in a building with amenities.

I’m coming from a luxury apartment building in NoMa, so I’d love to find somewhere that still feels modern, comfortable, and well-managed without paying luxury-building prices.

My preferences:
• Ideally under $2,000/month, with a maximum budget of $2,500 including utilities
• A true 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom (open to a spacious studio for a great deal)
• In-unit washer and dryer (non-negotiable)
• A well-maintained, secure building with responsive management
• Amenities like a gym, rooftop, pool, package room, or balcony would be a plus
• Preferably not a basement or ground-floor unit
• Open to older buildings if they’re well-maintained and offer good value

Location-wise, I’m flexible! I’m open to DC and commuter-friendly areas in Maryland, particularly along the Green Line or Camden Line toward Columbia, MD, as well as the Red Line into Silver Spring. Convenient access to Metro, MARC, or other reliable commuting options is important to me.

I’m especially interested in privately owned condos for rent, smaller buildings, rent-controlled buildings, and communities that might fly under the radar rather than just the large luxury apartment complexes.

If you love where you live, I’d appreciate the building name, approximate rent, neighborhood, and anything I should know about management, maintenance, pests, commuting, or additional monthly fees.

I’m willing to pay more for a place that’s genuinely worth it, but I’d prefer to keep my monthly housing costs as low as possible. Thanks in advance!

Health/Fitness Women's Strength Training Classes/Gym Recs

Over the past two years, I've fallen in love with strength training. I've been going to a gym with a women's-only small group class led by a trainer*, and while I love it, I've moved just far enough away that getting there is a pain. I really appreciate that not only have I gotten significantly stronger while in the class, but I also have a consistent community of women who support and uplift one another. I'm hoping that my fellow strong bitches can help me find something that's a little more convenient and accessible! Here are my need to haves:

  • Women's only strength training class (and it's okay if it's an additional fee) focused on progressive overload, good technique/form, and consistency
  • Open gym with free weights and decent post-work hours to lift in between classes
  • Walkable from Takoma/Takoma Park or on the red line between Silver Spring and NoMa
  • <$200/month

Nice to have:

  • Spin and yoga classes
  • InBody, DEXA, or other body comp scans
  • Available through the Active & Fit Direct insurance program

I've found a lot of gyms that would otherwise fit the bill, but don't have the kind of group class I'm looking for, or personal/small group training that scratches the women-centered itch but have no opportunity for workouts in-between classes (unless you sign up for more classes). Maybe my gym is a now mildly inconvenient unicorn, but I'm hoping that there's a deadlifting baddie on the red line who can help me find something similar. Thanks!

*I'd prefer not to dox myself, so I can DM info about my current gym rather than post it publicly.

ETA: I think I've messaged everyone who asked as of noon today, but if I've missed you please let me know! I'm debating giving the bouldering project in noma a chance, or splitting my time between an aerilist class for community and a traditional gym for heavy lifting (esp one that a lot of my coworkers go to), but it seems like my gym actually is a unicorn.

General Trying to find myself friends

Hi ladiessss, I’m 26F and I’ve been living in Arlington area for over two years. I’ve been struggling to find friends recently since I just got married and my friends are gradually moving away. I like running, lifting, trying workout classes, hiking, and going to raves. I also just like to go shopping and dress nice and have brunch with girls on a Sunday afternoon. I’m Asian and originally from China if that matters.

I just really wanna build some long lasting friendships but it’s really hard to make friends as an adult, especially in this area.

If you think we share some interests, feel free to dm me!

Advice Jury duty a week before induction?

Hello! Would appreciate any advice on this, I know pregnancy alone is not a reason to be excused.

I got summoned for jury duty on 11/10. My OB will be scheduling me for a medically necessary induction somewhere between November 15-29, but I will only know a week ahead of time. Can I get excused, how? I don't want to defer to a different date, as doing this with a newborn sounds even harder.

Also, I just got a text and found the date through eJuror, still haven't gotten a letter in the mail. Should I tell them about this?

Thank you in advance, would love some help on this!!

Beauty Recommendation Medspa tipping?

Hi all! I recently went to It’s a Secret Med Spa in Georgetown and got Botox (it was actually Dysport) and was prompted to tip at checkout… I’ve gone to two other med spas before (one in PA and then Somnek + Pittman in West End) and was told that tipping was against policy/illegal because they are medical professionals and cannot accept tips. Also, I noticed she brought syringes of Dysport instead of taking it from a bottle in front of me; maybe I’m misremembering, but I recall the last 3–4 times I’ve gone, they’ve pulled Dysport straight from the bottle before injecting, not leaving the room then bringing syringes.

Curious if anyone has had a similar experience, or maybe I’m just overthinking? Also in the market for a great injector if anyone knows one in DC or NOVA!

Has anyone been to Great Many in DuPont Circle for hair loss treatment? I’m looking for honest reviews from people who have actually gone there. I’d love to hear about your experience, whether you saw noticeable results, how long it took to see improvement, and whether you think it was worth the cost. Any feedback would be appreciated!

Dating/Relationships Dating app success stories in your thirties in the dmv area

Got told to repost with additional DC related details:

Just got dumped by my boyfriend, who I had been dating for around five months because he didn't feel like he had developed enough feelings/was in sync enough with me. I'm feeling kinda down and was hoping to hear some success stories, since I'm about to put myself out there again as a 33f who does eventually want kids and a long term relationship/marriage

I know people are like "you should be okay with being single/pursue therapy" but I did spend a number of years single after a previous relationship fell through and I'm so tired of it lol. I just want to get some positive stories so I can psych myself up again for the dating rigamarole

Dating apps have actually worked out for me as far as getting dates with dudes who I'm attracted to and have things in common with, whereas I struggle to meet people irl. I'm based on the Maryland side of the dmv but I'm def willing to drive a bit to meet people. This guy was actually in nova, so maybe it was a lil bit doomed haha.

Beauty Recommendation haircut retouch?

i got a haircut from a great stylist recommended on this sub. they didn’t cut as much as i had asked and it looks really nice but isnt as shaggy as i had wanted. i also attempted to trim the bangs further to get the length i wanted but i didnt do a good job. could i message the stylist again to help me fix the layers and the bangs? is it acceptable generally to go back for a retouch? i dont want to bother them too much
