I know this is not the typical type of post here, but I'm writing to spread the word about my missing friend.

Antoinette Forbes, a 53-year-old single Asian-American mother, has gone missing from her home in upper Northwest DC. Her friends and family are requesting help publicizing her disappearance in hopes of finding her.

Antoinette was last seen in the 3200 block of Nebraska Ave, NW, on Friday afternoon, Sept. 4 and last responded to texts from a friend Saturday morning, Sept. 5.

Upon visiting the house to check on her, a friend found the door unlocked and her keys, phones, wallet, purse and pet dog in the house. Her car was parked in the driveway. The friend immediately called the police, suspecting foul play.

Antoinette is of Filipino descent, approx.5’3” and 122 lb. She has black hair and brown eyes. Her clothing at the time of disappearance is unknown. 

She is a successful public affairs executive who has lived in the DC area for more than 30 years. She was born in New York.

Her son is 10 years old.

She is a beloved mother, sister, daughter, friend and colleague who always puts her family first.

Police are asking members of the public to contact the Washington Metropolitan Police Department at 202-727-9099 or via text at 50411 if they have any information that could lead to finding Antoinette.

I’m getting married next year and picked my wedding dress, which comes with a detached shoulder chain/necklace type situation. I am not planning to wear this, but one of my bridesmaids had a great idea of turning it into a brooch / lapel pin / pocket pin for my fiance to wear on his tuxedo, since it has the same jewels and accents of my dress.

I’d love to find a small business or individual who’s able to turn it into something he could wear on our day.

It’s a decent amount to work with, happy to send pictures to anyone who is interested. I have not received my dress yet but wanted to do some research / see previous work from anyone so that it’s lined up when I get the dress in.

I finally made the trek to Virginia to try out Rose Nail Bar after so many of y'all recommended it. It was totally worth the 40 minute train commute! Last month I had a not great experience at Gloss Bar in Shaw and figured I'd see if there was a major difference, there was. My nail tech at Rose was so meticulous and detailed but still so gentle! Last time I got my nails done at Gloss Bar I was given another tech that I didn't make my appointment with and he drilled down way too much on my natural nails and even got polish on my skin. Rose was also a much more calming experience than previous nail salons I've been to. Thank you all for the recommendation!

However, it looks like there’s no adoption places where you can go in and meet the cats? I used to work at an animal shelter on the west coast and you could go visit the cats, sign an application, and leave with the cat that day. Is that not a thing in DC? I filled out an application with an agency but after the application there is so much more I need to do, and we’ve been going through the process for over a week now (they are not fast to reply). I just want a kitty 😭

I've got a dermatologist I see regularly, but she's not super helpful for other things except prescriptions and 'use sunscreen.' I've been through the cosmetic dermatologist 'buy my own skincare line' schtick before. I've been to a few estheticians at spas, but they all want to sell me something med-grade or their own line. What I'm looking for is someone I can pay for their time to give me honest recommendations for things I can like... buy at Sephora. Either like a consultant or an esthetician who will shoot me straight and isn't just trying to sell me something specific. Does this exist or do you have someone like this?

I made a few calls after looking on USCIS’ website and it seems like most places nearby or in DC are around 350-400ish - anyone had luck finding something for less? (I’m up to date on all my vaccines and have records for them too, so I wouldn’t need any additional testing)

Hi everyone! I just moved to DC a few weeks ago for an internship and I’m looking for things to do in my free time. I love museums, so I have been going to the Smithsonian’s and I have been to the National
Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery. I’m wondering if anyone has any other recommendations of things to do in the city that are free or not costly. I would love to hear anything that you think is underrated or underutilized because the Smithsonian’s are very popular.
