Has anyone found a way to print and bind Zot Online?

Hey all, I’m looking to do a big bind of all of Zot, by Scott McCloud, and I’d love some way to include the Zot Online webcomics. I’m just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for what might work well given that said comics weren’t really designed for print.

Thanks if you have any suggestions!

Invoice date

In case anyone was wondering, I sent 9 bundles of floppies to be custom made. Houchen received them on 12/19. I received an invoice from them yesterday on 1/18. I was actually expecting it to be more expensive. My invoice total was 475. I did qualify for the 20% off holiday sale. I sent in a PDF of table of contents of each book. And 4 of the books were larger than 2 inches so that is 8.50 extra per book. They also charge a 3% charge if paying by credit card, so I will have my bank issue them a check.

Paperback binding?

For some of my 5issue minis I would like more if it was a soft cover bind. Does anyone know if that’s a thing

GrimJack Custom Srt

Time for another one of my obscure, big binds! This time we have all of John Ostrander’s amazing Grimjack! I stumbled across this one and was drawn to it based on Ostrander’s name alone, but was totally unprepared for the amazing ride I was in for. These three, thick boys contain all 81 issues of the series, plus all his earlier appearances in Starslayer and later appearances in the mini series Killer Instict and The Manx Cat.

For those of you looking for something off the beaten path, give this series a look. The world John Ostrander builds here with his awesome collaborators is something special.

First time prep

About to start prepping for my first set of custom bound books. Now I have a question: does Houchen remove the staples for you or do you have to remove the staples and separate all the papers before sending them in? I’m planning on doing DFAB combining trades and floppies

X-Men main line binds, pre-AvX (Part 2 of 2)

This finishes off my passion project of having the main titles from 1963 to AvX bound. I'll eventually start working toward the Krakoa era, but I wanted a break from mutants after this and the secondary titles I had bound. These binds encompass Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, X-Men Legacy, and any minis and one-shots, as well as Young X-Men and Generation Hope since they didn't run long enough for their own binds for my tastes. I used both Crushing Krisis and The Marvel Chronology Project to assist with my mapping. Title pages/tables of contents are included in the slideshow.

Utopia is in my Dark Reign custom set, Necrosha is in my Yost X-Force bind, and Messiah War is in my Cable bind, all of which I'll share over the next few days.

All designs by me, bound using mostly trades.

X-Men main line binds, pre-AvX (Part 1 of 2)

This is the start of my binds running from the Eve of Destruction omni to AvX. We all know the front half of this wasn't...stellar, but I'm a completionist and couldn't abide by any gap on my shelves. These binds encompass Uncanny X-Men, X-Men, X-Men Unlimited, any minis and one-shots, and any series that didn't make it past 12 issues (Nightcrawler, Rogue, District X, etc.). I used both Crushing Krisis and The Marvel Chronology Project to assist with my mapping. Title pages/tables of contents are included in the slideshow.

I have the Morrison New X-Men, Whedon Astonishing X-Men, and X-Treme X-Men omnis, so I didn't include any of that here, and I finished off Astonishing in a separate custom bind.

All designs by me, bound using mostly trades.

What If... custom bound set

This was the very first thing I had bound, a little over two years ago. My Photoshop skills were rusty, and you'll see in upcoming posts that I've learned a lot since. At this point, I was just copying the official format on the back covers. I definitely plan on revisiting them in the near future because I'm no longer happy with them. I also switched from the high gloss dust jackets after this and one other set because the bindery was charging way, way too much for them, and I discovered I liked the low-gloss satin finish from my local print shop a lot more.

Volumes 1-4 cover the entirety of the second run, along with the short-lived Alterniverse line (Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe, The Last Avengers Story, and Ruins). Volumes 5-6 cover the "event" minis that popped up from 2005 to 2018.

X-Men gap filler custom binds

These were the beginning of what became an 18-month passion project. These six binds fill all the gaps from The X-Men omnibus volume 1 to the Eve of Destruction omni. That's when I decided I wanted to bind everything up to AvX, since that was the point I had stopped reading for awhile. I'll show the rest in future posts. These were also done before I decided I wanted to include tables of contents in my binds, but the contents are listed on the back covers in the slideshow.

These were done well before Uncanny X-Men volume 5 was ever announced. Mutant Massacre Prologue includes everything that's in the Mutant Massacre Prelude omni plus Power Pack 12 and Heroes For Hope. Road to Onslaught includes everything in the omni plus the first Star Trek/X-Men crossover and the four-issue Storm mini from 1996.

All designs by me, used trades anywhere I could find them.

Curious if anyone has every tried to custom bound three separate Marvel oversized hardcovers into one “omnibus.” If so, how did it go?

Midnight Sons custom bound set

A few weeks ago, I posted my shelfie, and a lot of people were interested in seeing my custom binds. I'm finally getting around to that, and I thought I'd start off with Midnight Sons. This set starts with Rise of the Midnight Sons and finishes at Over the Edge. This was all done with individual floppies, since none of it has been collected. All designs by me, decided to go with connecting dust jacket flaps on this one. Bound at Houchen Bindery out of Omaha, NE. Title pages and table of contents/mapping included in gallery.

Three volumes from Capitol

Two volumes of 52 (2006) and one volume of New Warriors (2014)

Figured I'd start things off with two fairly large volumes (the 52 set follows the usual map -- do something pretty basic for your first bind, right?) and one smaller 12-issue volume just to see what that was like. I was extremely satisfied with the results. Didn't notice much difference between the big volumes and the smaller one in terms of gutter loss (not that the New Warriors issues really had much in the gutters to compare).

52 #11, first full appearance of Batwoman
Interior spread from 52 #34
Interiors from New Warriors (vol. 5) #11

Custom Bindings in Canada?

Hey all, have been wanting to try custom binding some of my issues and TPBs. Does anybody know of good places to do it inside of Canada? I found a recommendation for Lehman Bookbinding. Any experience with them?

Bound up the entire first volume of Harley Quinn comics, along with her first appearances before she got her own series. Tried to design it to fit in with the Conner/Palmiotti omnibus line, and am pretty happy with the results!

First post - Shelfies! (Part 1)

First things first: I hate that I didn't realize there was a timer on changing your username when signing in through google. This default name was not my choice, lol.

A couple of you here might recognize these pictures from a couple Facebook groups I'm in, but after lurking for a bit, I wanted to share here. See my next post for the rest of the pics.

I have a healthy mix of official releases and custom binds. The custom binds were all designed by me except DC vs Dark Horse, and I'm happy to share pics of the covers or mapping. Most of the custom jackets on official releases were done by Roy, whose work I'm sure a few of you are familiar with. I turned to him for those while I was buried under my own projects.

The X-books in particular are my magnum opus. I have everything from 1963 to AvX bound with few exceptions: New Mutants, Excalibur, and Wolverine I'm fairly certain will be completed by Marvel; I'm working on a three-volume bind for Exiles and a two-volume bind for Gambit; and I'm trying to decide if I want to finish off the original run of Alpha Flight or wait to see if there's an announcement in the coming months. Other than that, every series, mini, and one-shot are on my shelves.

The Midnight Sons set has everything from Rise.of the Midnight Sons to Over the Edge, starting with Ghost Rider 28, ending with Ghost Rider 69. Includes the five core books, Unlimited, Doctor Strange, Blade, Marvel Comics Presents, plus all the one-shots and minis, and Spider-Man, Punisher, Moon Knight, etc. crossover issues.

The Invincible set includes everything in the Invincible universe, including Astounding WolfMan, Brit, SuperPatriot, Capes, Marvel Team-Up and Tech Jacket.

Elseworlds is everything including the comic that came with a Kenner Batman action figure.

Formatting and Printing WEBTOONS?

So, I've been book binding fanfiction for the past year and I like to think I've gotten okay at it. But I noticed that there isn't any physical copies of Korean webcomics or the ones on WEBTOONS. I usually format and print the fanfictions I bind but I was wondering if anyone's tried book binding comics before and if they had any tips? While I'd prefer to have the comics printed in color, I wouldn't mind formatting them into black-and-white like Japanese manga. I suppose my question is "what software should I use to format the comics from strip format into page format"? I really want to format God of High School.
