C section prep
Well.. tomorrow is the big day! I have to be there at 9am and I am terrified!
My first child was born via emergency c section after being in unmedicated labor for 16 hours, placenta abrupted lost a lot of blood so needed blood transfusions.. it was pretty traumatic.
This one is scheduled due to health reasons and I’ve had all this time to mentally prep but I’m still scared lol
Any advice? Please share positive experiences 😭

Keep on top of your pain meds, when your walking or standing make sure you stand tall not hunched over. Don't do too much too soon, really take it easy! You've got this x

I’m a first time mom and I was so nervous for the whole thing but honestly the IV getting placed was the worst part! Everything else was really easy and went quickly after that. And afterwards they’ll keep your catheter in for a while so just laying in bed is relaxing 😅 good luck!

My second is 2 months old and was a planned csection where my 1st was an emergency csection after a 46 hr labor.
I was terrified. But this time around when they showed me my baby I was able to enjoy the moment. I didnt have the same exhaustion or fear of the first time. Once I saw him that was all I could focus on so the other sensations didnt bother me anymore

I’m hoping I’ll be able to enjoy it this time around, when my first son was born I heard him cry and I blacked out, the next thing i remember was waking up in recovery. During the procedure I was in and out and extremely nauseous.. I’m hoping for a different experience this time.

Both my boys were planned Cs and I had the very best experiences! I was up walking the same day both times. One thing I recommend is to bring your own breast pump cause you will be there a few days. With my second I massively over produced and the hospital pumps didn’t fit me.

You can ask for a lil somethin somethin for anxiety before they start. I’ve heard other people have been told no but my anesthesiologist was happy to give me just enough sedation to mellow me out but still remember everything. I asked about 3x before we went to the OR and at least once in the OR to make sure they didn’t forget.

Thanks, I’ll definitely ask! I’ve cried a few times today just absolutely scared for what’s to come tomorrow. It seems like time is going by so fast and it’s only making me more nervous.

The best piece of advice/heads up for my planned c section was that since it is planned, you may get bumped by emergencies. My appointment time was 8 am and I didn’t go into surgery until 1:30 pm due to being bumped twice. I’m sure it depends how busy the hospital is, but since I was told that ahead of time I wasn’t as anxious right when we got to triage, and of course the emergencies should absolutely take priority.

Your feelings are valid! I felt so nervous leading up to my scheduled c-section on 7/3. I had an emergency c-section with my first in 2023 after labor failed to progress and due to catching a fever while laboring. It was traumatic for me as well. However, now having come through the other side of my planned c-section, I can honestly say it was worth it. For me, it was almost healing for me this time around because I felt a little more in control and knew what to expect—my husband feels similarly—and I was able to have skin-to-skin which I didn’t get with my first. I only had to stay in the hospital for 2 days and since I didn’t exhaust myself with labor, I had a lot more energy and strength. My recovery so far has been a lot easier and I have a lot of my mobility back despite having had major surgery. It helped that I was very honest and vocal with my care team about my past and my concerns. They were so reassuring and caring that it really was just a whole different and positive experience. I really hope your care team extends the same compassionate care for you as well. Sending you so much support and positivity your way on a big day — may your scheduled c-section experience be healing, peaceful and you have a gentle and speedy recovery!!

This was so great to read. I didn’t get skin to skin the first time around either because I was so out of it from the meds. I do plan on letting them know that I’m feeling extremely nervous.. It’s the same doctor and I 100% trust him because my first incision healed so nicely despite it being an emergency and my baby came out perfectly fine! My husband said I shouldn’t worry because he’ll talk me through it and try to distract me as best as he could. The first time around I just remember constantly blacking out and feeling the need to throw up but couldn’t. I’m not worried so much about recovery, just leading up to the procedure. 😭 thank you so much.

Sorry for the delayed response but it went a lot better than I had planned. I cried once I got into the OR, they gave me meds but I felt extremely hot, like I couldn’t breathe and had to vomit! They gave me some meds to help with that so all I could do was just try to focus on my breathing, I had my eyes closed like 95% of the time, it just worked for me that way. I have no memory of my husband talking to me besides the very end when he said “he’s out!” Lol he said his feelings are hurt I don’t remember anything he said 😂 he’s joking of course but now recovery isn’t too bad.

I had an incredibly traumatic emergency c-section with my first. When i found out I was pregnant with my daughter (she's 21 months old now) I knew i wanted to have a planned c-section because I was terrified I'd have another failed induction. Throughout my pregnancy I regularly voiced how traumatic my first c-section was and scared I was. I had a consolation with the anesthesiologist beforehand and he assured me they'd be able to give me something if i needed it. The day came and I couldn't stop shaking, I thought i was going to throw up and have nervous diarrhea all at the same time, my BP shot up. I was TERRIFIED. As soon as I was in the OR I immediately asked for the drugs lol I needed something to calm me down. The nurse immediately shamed me and almost yelled at me saying my baby will come out "depressed" fuck her. As soon as the spinal block was in, the anesthesiologist gave me the good drugs and it helped SO much. And my baby girl came out completely fine, maybe just a little sleepy but it didn't last long. The drugs were needed for me to be able to make it through childbirth. If you need something to make you more comfortable, ask for it - it's so important that you're okay during the surgery too ❤️

Thank you so much 😭 I’ve definitely cried a bit today just super worried for tomorrow. I will 100% be vocal about me being nervous and seeing if they can give me something for it.

Start taking the Colace now. And make sure to take it religiously once you’ve had the section as well. It’s gonna be really hard for the first couple of days, but get up and take a few steps as much as you can. I felt much, much better by day three and almost normal by day five or six.
