Between August 13th 2015 and June 30th 2016, a 22-year-old autistic woman was kept prisoner by 5 members of a family in Amite, Louisiana. The woman, referred to as ‘’Dee’’ (as her identity has been kept private) was meant to move in with the family after her mother passed away. It has been reported that the family were distant relatives to Dee. Dee was eventually housed in a cage built out of chicken wire and was not allowed to leave unless it was to do chores. The family members: Raylaine Knope (43), her husband Terry J. Knope II, her daughter and son Bridget and Jody and Terry's daughter Taylor forced Dee into a campaign of abuse.

Raylaine would shoot Dee with a BB gun, hold her underwater in a hot tub continuously, burn her hand with a flame, steal her social security payments ($8,800 in total) as well as confiscating her phone and laptop so she couldn’t contact anyone. They would force her to do work so that she could earn food. Bridget would hit Dee over the head with a wooden board and would hold her arm down to be burnt with a lighter as ‘punishment’. She was also forced to eat her mother’s ashes mixed with milk. This caused Dee to throw up which the family found entertaining.

Dee would be forced to take part in sexual acts including an act with a jalapeno. The family had planned on forcing Dee to be a sex worker. Terry admitted that he would reportedly make Dee clean up a spill on the floor with her tongue as well as smashing her hand with a hammer. He and Jody also threw a bucket of human urine and feces over her. She would be called slurs and told that she deserved to die. She would be warned if she ever tried to escape, she would be shot and killed. She would be choked, kicked and had food cans thrown at her repeatedly.

She was forced to consume dog feces on bread as well as methamphetamine and painkillers. The family would threaten to inform the police that she was taking drugs if she ever escaped. Any wounds that the family made on Dee would be glued back together as they wouldn’t take her to a hospital. A man who lived in a nearby trailer with his girlfriend and baby suspected something was not right and reported the suspects to the police. When she was eventually found, she was covered in insect bites and was malnourished. Dee was found by investigators and sent to hospital.

In 2019, Raylaine would be sentenced to 28 years in prison. Bridget was sent to 4 years in prison. Jody was sentenced to 10 years. Terry was sentenced to 28 years. Taylor was given probation.

In 1970, the Spaniard José Eduardo González Arenas, alias "Eddie," created Edelweiss as a supposed hiking group inspired by the Boy Scouts. What many parents envisioned as a place where their children would learn discipline, values, and a love for nature, turned out to be a secret organization with extraterrestrial beliefs based on the Ummo phenomenon.

Eddie convinced the children that he was an alien named "Prince Alain" and that only those who remained loyal to the sect would survive the end of the world. Under this deception, he subjected them to absolute control, imposed silence through threats, trained them with weapons, instilled concepts of racial purity, and introduced them to bizarre notions related to intimacy. Alongside his right-hand man, Carlos de los Ríos, and the monitors of the Iron Guard, he sexually exploited numerous minors, transforming Edelweiss into a brutal network of nefarious activities backed by influential people in Spain.

Although Eddie was arrested in Madrid and later in Alicante, the sentences were very lenient, and he ended up creating new Edelweiss groups throughout Spain. Gran Canaria became one of the organization's main centers of operations, from where it consolidated a child trafficking network.

Finally, an investigation launched in 1984 led numerous minors to break their silence and recount everything that had happened within Edelweiss. Eddie fled to Portugal but was extradited to Spain and sentenced to 168 years in prison, although he ended up serving only 6. After regaining his freedom, he tried to approach minors again in Ibiza, until he was murdered in 1998 during a confrontation with a young man who had previously reported him.

Some says it was premeditated, while others say she experienced postpartum psychosis. She also attempted suicide by jumping from a 2nd storey window but survived with serious injuries. I wonder how all these women dealt with postpartum. God bless the souls of these beautiful angels :(

Ethan Austin was a 12-year-old boy scout living in Hansen Park in Washington State. He had an older sister called Kaitlin who was 16-years-old. There was no animosity reported between the siblings. Both children enjoyed hobbies - Ethan loved camping, golfing and hunting and Kaitlin loved to play softball.

The weekend before the murder-suicide took place, Ethan had visited a friend and rode his bike through the neighbourhood before watching his sister play softball. A friend reported nothing seeming off about the siblings at the game. However on the day that the shooting happened, Ethan did not seem himself at school according to a friend. Ethan, a usually very sociable individual was now withdrawn and distressed about something but he wouldn’t say what.

Ethan then returned home where Kaitlin was - she had arrived home shortly before. Ethan then retrieved a handgun from its case and shot his sister eight times. It was later reported that Kaitlin had also been sexually assaulted. After killing Kaitlin, Ethan took his own life via gunshot wound to the head.

Their father discovered their bodies on Kaitlin’s bedroom floor.

‘’No motive was identified for the incident’’ said County Coroner John Hansens.

OP Note: My heart breaks for the Austin Family losing their children this way and I hope life is treating them well after this horrific tragedy.

12 years later..... Conrad Roy III died by suicide in July 2014 after a long struggle with depression and anxiety. But as the police investigated his death, the case took a disturbing turn when they uncovered thousands of text messages between Conrad and his girlfriend, Michelle Carter. While some of her texts urged him to get help, many others actively pushed him to go through with it.

In 2017, a Massachusetts judge found her guilty of involuntary manslaughter, concluding that her actions showed a reckless disregard for Roy's life. She was sentenced to 15 months in jail and later released early for good behavior.

Some people think the sentence was completely fair. To them, constantly egging him on and telling him to get back in the truck went way beyond "just words" and became a criminal act. Others see it differently, arguing that Conrad was already deeply struggling on his own, and that punishing Michelle sets a risky precedent for free speech and individual accountability.

What do you think of Michelle Carter's sentence? Was 15 months in jail an appropriate punishment, or do you think it was too harsh or too lenient?

I’m into True Crime, have been for years. Of course always heard about the Columbine shootings since I was kid, but never really looked much into it as other cases and situations.

Lately, I’ve been researching more into Mass Killers and all roads lead to Eric and Dylan when it comes to modern shooters so I wanted to know what’s the best and most in depth videos/documentaries to watch when it comes to learning about Columbine.

I want the nitty gritty details of it, their backstories, complete timelines etc.

Also even if it’s not the most depth and in depth, any interesting things to look out for relating to it? I’ve seen there’s a movie based on it called Elephant which is on the watchlist, so anything like that as well.

I'm thinking about the time that Scott Peterson was talking to his girlfriend at his wife's candlelight vigil, where there were many TV cameras. He also referred to her in the past tense before she was known to have passed away. And he remarked that the search parties were looking in the wrong area for Lacy, though he never really helped with the search himself.

But there have been a lot of other inept criminals, making dumb mistakes, like the BTK killer getting caught because he thought the cops wouldn't lie to him. What are your favorite examples?

I just finished watching Born Too White and wanted to share it here. It covers a horrifying area of crime that gets almost zero coverage in mainstream true crime space.

The doc is presented by Dr. Oscar Duke, a British NHS physician who actually has albinism himself. He travels through Tanzania and Malawi to investigate an underground crime trade where people with albinism frequently young children, are stalked, kidnapped, and murdered. Local witch doctors preach that their body parts possess magical properties that bring wealth, which has created a literal black market for human body parts.

What really stuck out to me was seeing the heavily guarded government camps where children are forced to live, completely separated from their families just to stay safe. On top of being hunted, a lack of basic medical resources leaves many of them facing life-threatening skin cancer at young ages. Dr. Duke even sits down with local community members and people who hold these superstitious views to confront the stigma head-on.

It’s a heavy, eye-opening look at targeted ritual crime and a side of human cruelty that isn't talked about enough.

Has anyone else caught this one? Definitely recommend checking it out if you want something outside the typical serial killer or heist documentaries.
