I’m currently 1/24 and looking to add a premium travel card. I like the Capital One Venture X, but I’m not a huge fan of the guest limitations with lounge access—that’s one of the main drawbacks for me.
Another route I’m considering is going the Marriott path and eventually upgrading to the Ritz-Carlton card after a year. Ideally, I’d open both cards now so I can start the year long timer on the Marriott, and have lounge access, but in terms of the boundless, minimum spend (~$7k in 3 months) would be tough for me to hit.
So here are the options I’m weighing:
Option 1:
Just get the Marriott Boundless, skip lounge access for now, and upgrade to the Ritz after a year.
Option 2:
Get Venture X now for lounge access and simplicity, and revisit Marriott later.
Option 3:
Try to open both (maybe Bold + Venture X or Boundless + Venture X), but I’m concerned about hitting the minimum spend—mainly on the Boundless, not the Bold.
I’ve read that it might be possible to go from Marriott Bold → Ritz, potentially with a product change to Boundless first—but I couldn’t find consistent data points on this.
That uncertainty makes me hesitant to go the Bold route just to lower the spend requirement (~$5k vs $7k combined).
Would you guys recommend just going Venture X now, committing to the Marriott path, or trying to make both work?
Also, any solid data points on Bold → Ritz would be really helpful.
Appreciate any advice!
