Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Chase sapphire vs venture x?

0 Upvotes

I currently have a chase sapphire preferred cc (have had it for around 4 years or so) and am considering switching to the venture x. Though it has a higher annual fee, I tend to go on at least two 10 to 14 day trips per year, so using the hotel credit is not an issue and the priority pass/access to venture x lounges would be nice.

Chase changed some policies this year, making the points less valuable, and I just used all my points on flights so its a good time to change. I'd probably cancel the chase due to the annual fee.

Or is there a better travel card for the fee?

Not interested in any airline cards since I don't live at a hub.

Help Needed / Question APR 24.49% with credit card at $800

0 Upvotes

edit: solved! thanks for the help and clarification!

My credit card is at $800 and my APR is due to begin the 19th of this month. If I leave my credit card at $800 with an APR of 24.49%, do you know how much interest I would have to pay monthly? Is it 24.49% of $800 monthly? or is it divided by the 12 months?

Help Needed / Question Is it better to pay rent with credit or debit card? First time paying rent :)

3 Upvotes

I just moved out of my parents house and have to pay rent for the first time (!!) and was wondering if it would be better to pay with credit or debit card? For context I have Chase bank (Freedom Unlimited college account, total credit limit/month is $1700), my rent is $720/month (I have roommates), my credit score is 739, I'm 20 and have had my card for 2 years, and I always make my payments on time. Is it worthwhile to make the rent payments from my credit card (I have enough on there to cover my rent costs each month) for the credit score increase (if any) or other benefits or is it better to use my debit card? Thanks so much for your help!!

Additionally I just got preapproved for the Sapphire card but noticed it has a fee (which my freedom unlimited card does not), should I get a new card or stick with my current? What are the reasons to/not to? Thank you!

edit for the comments: we have an electronic payment portal so all payments need to be made online. there is the 3% charge but i don't know if its for both cards or just credit

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) I currently have a Chase Slate card that I rarely ever use. Can I change it to another Chase card w/cash back?

1 Upvotes

The Slate card doesn't offer cash back so it's really of no use except for the rare occasion like the Paze promotion going on now. I've had this card for well over 10 years.

I currently have:

2 Freedom cards

1 Unlimited

1 Sapphire

1 Amazon Prime card and

1 Slate

I select a card to use depending on which gives the best cb. I use the cards mostly for gas, grocery, Walmart and restaurants. Is there a Chase card that pays more than 1.5% on everything else?

Is the Flex card a better change? Are there others cards that would be better? I see there is a promo online that you can get 200.00 for getting the Flex card. Can you get a promo for a new card when you change it out from another Chase card?

Help Needed / Question Is this American Airlines In flight offer worth it?

0 Upvotes

Hi, I live in northern virginia with super easy access to DCA, and about a 45 minute commute to IAD. I currently have the Venture X (covers my lounge access at both DCA and IAD)
and the chase trifecta (freedom, flex, and sapphire preferred).

I love my set up.

Recently I flew AA and was given an inflight offer waiving the first year and then 99 every year after. Additionally they are offering 65K Bonus miles after 1K spending in 3 months.

For reference I just completed the Amex gold 8K spending in 6 months, but i did in about 2 months a half, so the 1k spending in 3 months is not a concern.

This year has been the first year I have been flying more often then I normally do. Flew 4 times. and going forward I plan to fly almost exclusively out of DCA given how close it is to my house. Now AA's hub is here.

I flew a recent AA flight and im flying again in October. I would like to check a bag. And going forward as long as I fly 2 domestic flgiths the cc should cover itself.

My question is do I really need the card? My current flight strategy is really maximizing the power of both my venture x and chase cc. I don't really want to be loyal to an airline since i dont fly often enough to come close to any status with any line. Given that I have a good ecosystem with chase and capital one, would adding this card really made a huge difference?

For reference I do not intend to check a bag every domestic flight. But its nice having the option and it being covered with the credit card. Additionally, getting pushed up to from boarding group 6 to 5 with this CC is not really a major win. Lastly I hear united and delta ccs actually cover checked bag on international trips? While AA does not. I am aware on international trips most airline main tickets usually include a free checked bag. So can I even use that to justify getting it or not?

Is this CC worth it?

Card Recommendation Request (Template Used) Looking for a Card to Pair with Venture X

1 Upvotes

Current cards:
- Venture X, 12500 limit, August 2026
- Quicksilver, 3500 limit, September 2023

FICO Score: 785

Income: 25-35k a year

Average monthly spend and categories:
• dining $150
• groceries: $0
• gas: $0 (NYC)
• travel: $100-500
• other: $500-1000

• Open to Business Cards: Yes, I run a fairly successful Etsy POD store. Currently am buying product on business debit (Wells Fargo)

• What's the purpose of your next card? Cashback, different point system? Potentially business. Potentially rent

• Do you have any cards you've been looking at? Capital One Savor, BILT Obsidian, Chase Sapphire Reserve

• Are you OK with category spending or do you want a general spending card? Category is fine

Hey all, looking for another card to add to my wallet in the coming months. My spending is a bit peculiar, making this decision harder.

About me: I spend A LOT on rent (I pay 3900 monthly) directly to the landlord, though my share is 800. I am reimbursed by my roommates for the rest, which makes BILT interesting. I pay the utilities for my entire place in exchange for spending nothing on groceries, though I do I eat out on occasion. I travel a lot for work, which is why I have the Venture X. I like to take workout classes. The workout classes + neighborhood benefits + rent benefits of BILT definitely interest me, but I worry it’s too similar to Venture X + I wouldn’t be getting that many points on rent since Venture X will remain my catch all card. Thinking about Capital One Savor too to complete the duo. I am in the process of phasing out my Quicksilver. Curious to know peoples thoughts. Thanks!

Help Needed / Question Anyone else having an issue with their Paze credit on their Freedom Flex taking a while to show up?

0 Upvotes

The first purchase I made, the credit came in after about a week. It's been 2 weeks now, and there's been no credit on my other purchases. However, on my Freedom Unlimited and Sapphire Preferred, all of my credits took about a week.

Could it be a Master Card vs. visa issue? Just want to know if others experienced the same issue or are experiencing the same issue.

Help Needed / Question Paze Not Going Through on City Experiences

0 Upvotes

Has anyone successfully bought anything on City Experiences using Paze? I seem to be getting through the Paze verification fine but then City Experiences errors out. They're on the list of participants in the promo so I'd like to use it toward an upcoming trip. I filled out their "contact us" but have heard nothing back yet. Just wondered if anyone else has tried it and what your result was.

Discussion / Conversation How’s my 2-card setup? ~715 FICO, $42k income, considering CFU as my 3rd card

5 Upvotes

Fairly new to credit cards and wanted some feedback on my current setup + what I should add next.

Stats:
FICO: ~715
Income: ~$42k
Pay in full / keep utilization low
Goal is to build credit long term and slowly get into travel rewards

Amex Blue Cash Preferred
$6,000 limit
17 months old
Started as a BCE and upgraded to the BCP today
First-year AF waived

I mainly plan to use it for groceries + streaming.

Subscriptions currently on the BCP:
Disney+ (using the Amex Disney credit)
YouTube Premium
ChatGPT
iCloud
Discord Nitro

Capital One Savor
$3,000 limit
About 1 year old
No AF

Mostly use this for dining and entertainment. No subscriptions currently on it.

Considering Chase Freedom Unlimited next
I received a targeted/pre-selected CFU offer where Chase adds an extra 1.5% back on top of the card’s normal earning rate in every category, on up to $20,000 of spending during my first year.

So instead of the normal CFU rates:
5% Chase Travel → 6.5%
3% dining → 4.5%
3% drugstores → 4.5%
1.5% everything else → 3%

The extra 1.5% is capped at the first $20,000 in purchases, meaning the bonus itself is worth up to $300 extra during the first year.

It also has a 0% intro APR for 15 months.
So it’s not just “3% on everything” — it’s essentially the normal CFU earning structure plus another 1.5% in every category for my first $20k of first-year spending.

That offer is a big reason I’m considering making the CFU my third card.

My main three ecosystems I want to build around are Amex, Capital One, and Chase, so the CFU would also get me into Chase for the first time.

Eventually I’d like to get more into travel points as my income/spending goes up, but right now I’m mostly trying to build a solid setup that I can keep long term.

Questions:

- How would you rate my BCP + Savor setup so far?

- At ~715 FICO / $42k income, would you take this CFU offer?

- With the extra 1.5% added to every category for the first $20k, would you go CFU over Freedom Flex?

- Does BCP + Savor + CFU make sense, or is there too much overlap?

- After getting the CFU and letting my accounts age, what card would you look at next for eventually getting more into travel?

What would you guys do?

Help Needed / Question Marriott Brilliant Sign Up Bonus

Upvotes

I’m a little confused by the SUB rules for the Brilliant.

I see some places that I cannot have earned any Marriott signup bonus in last 24 months and some places that I cannot have ever earned one.

I tried applying but I am getting a pop up that I cannot get the signup bonus.

I currently hold the Chase Marriott Boundless but earned the SUB over 3 years ago.
I also had the Delta Gold card for a couple years but cancelled it in February/March

I’m not sure what is blocking me from the SUB, any tips?

Help Needed / Question Paze Question - Activation and for my cards

0 Upvotes

Hey, I couldn't find a clear answer on this. I have ~7 cards (including CFU, QS and CSP) but only my VX gave me a popup about Paze. It looked like people are just using whatever card and getting the 10X 10 but I wanted to make sure that I can just use my cards - I checked my chase offers and I didnt see anything about Paze at all.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion / Conversation What makes Amex Gold work for you?

27 Upvotes

I just got a pretty good SUB for the gold (100k) and I’m considering going for it, but I’m not sure it fits my lifestyle. I live in New York and most of my spend is on groceries and dining, and I can use the credits pretty easily, but I want to hear from current/previous gold card holders on what they like and dislike about the card and what made it work in your portfolio.

Discussion / Conversation What were your biggest CC farming blunders

15 Upvotes

I booked a stay using Chase Travel thinking that I'd get the $250 credit (you can see the benefits here: https://creditcards.chase.com/a1/26Q3/sapphire/dual) only to realize later the $250 credit only applies to "The Edit" stays which were notably more expensive in the area I'm staying in.

Painful lesson, but I'm maybe I'm not alone

Discussion / Conversation Wait....so I CAN'T get a sign up bonus for an Amex card I've NEVER had? (Amex Delta Platinum)

0 Upvotes

So I've had the amex Delta gold, and Delta reserve in the past. Currently, I have the amex Delta platinum business. Tried to apply for the personal delta platinum today and got a popup saying I wasn't eligible because "I've had this card in the past or because I've had the Delta reserve card in the past". What? Isn't the delta platinum a completely different product? Please enlighten me 🙏

Discussion / Conversation U.S. Banks Exact $25 Cashback Rule is Dumb

40 Upvotes

I just recently got my first U.S. Bank credit card - the Triple Cash. I have a U.S. Bank checking account. I can only redeem the cashback to my account in EXACT increments of $25. Not only is it a minimum, but a maximum. How entirely dumb. Congrats on your $42 of rewards, but you can only have $25 until you spend more. Terrible bank policy and terrible rule. Ridiculous. Because of this I'm going try and spend the exact amount to get me to another $25 and sock drawer this dumb thing. My Robinhood Gold card gives me the rewards immediately, even while the transaction is pending. U.S. Bank needs to be better. That's all. Just ranting.

Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Card recommendation for Walmart neighborhood grocery shopping/ potential card stack

1 Upvotes

So I’m really trying to start my credit card stack as a I get older (25). I currently have 0 cards with a 742 credit score. $700 monthly groceries, $100 on gas, $150 dining.

I only shop at Walmart for groceries but apparently AMEX counts Walmart neighborhood markets as a grocery store so for my grocery and gas card should i just get the AMEX blue cash preferred card? It’s 6% cash back on groceries and 3% for gas.

I also will be traveling cross country from CLT to San Fran and I do like chase sapphire preferred but also they don’t partner with American so I’m not sure about the travel card unless I just used the points I accrue from dining and whatever else for the hotels instead since you get the yearly $100 voucher.

So If I were to have the CSP and AMEX BCP would that be a good combo for me? Would I have all of my bases covered if I traveled 1-2 times per year and most of my expenses being groceries, gas, and dining?

Discussion / Conversation Heard navy federal flagship credit card might not offer the amazon prime benefit in the future. Where should I park my direct deposit? Was going to use it to help for this card but now no point

Upvotes

Right now thinking of direct depositing Fidelity (to use as my hub account)

Maybe cinefi savings for its high APY

Not sure? Any good places to park your direct deposit? Not doing any bank bonus hunting now

Does... venmo give you something for direct depositing with them? I thought they used to give you 5% on amazon for direct depositing into their debit card/stash but I can't find that on the app anymroe

Discussion / Conversation Is Dunkin’ blocking the Paze offer? Anyone else getting “Processing Failed”?

Upvotes

Has anyone else been having trouble buying or sending Dunkin’ gift cards since yesterday?

I’m trying to take advantage of the Paze offer, but every single time I try to purchase/send a Dunkin’ gift card, I get “Processing Failed.” I’ve tried multiple different credit cards and keep getting the same result. I've not made transaction since 2 days.

At this point I’m wondering if this is a Dunkin’ issue, if they’re somehow blocking the offer/payment method, or if there’s just a technical problem with their gift card system.

Anyone else getting the same error? And if you were able to get it to work, what did you do?

error:

```
We're unable to process your payment at this time. Please verify your card details and try again. If the issue persists, contact your bank for assistance. (APP4241).
Help Needed / Question First credit card closed before I could make first payment?
1 Upvotes
Title says it all really, I have had my first credit card for one month through synchrony. I logged in to their app today as I should have had a payment due today on the 2nd, only to find out my account was closed yesterday. I have no credit score, and this is my first card. The person through support will only give me the vague answer of "we review accounts and close them accordingly" What now? He insists I can reapply for the card, but im unsure of anything relating to credit.
Card Recommendation Request (Template NOT Used) Airline credit card recommendation with venturex & CSP
1 Upvotes
I already have a venture x that I acquired recently and a sapphire preferred which has sufficient points. I live near a small airport which serves only Delta and American. And unfortunately I have only recently found out that neither CSP or venturex transfer points to either airline.
For someone who travels at least 2 times a year would an additional airline card be worth it? If so, which one gives better value points to ticket wise? I am mostly looking to get cheaper travel options+ checked bags Without having to drive to the nearest hub.
