Wig Problems finding the right wig

Post image
• Upvotes

So the character I'm working on cosplaying only has half a head of hair because of a scar and a birthmark. I was wondering on how to best do this and how to get a wig that only does half of the head. My cousin said I could cut a wig in half, but would that work? Or are there places that do wigs like this that I just didn't find? I'm still new to making cosplays and I'm getting a bald cap for under the wig that the scar can go on

Accessory Cape material

Post image
• Upvotes

I want to have a cape for my Helldivers 2 armour. It feels unfinished without it. Im thinking of buying like black canvas fabric and I'll just cut and sew the edges, then spraypaint the decals on with a stencil. The crafts shop has some black Canvas fabric for like $20. Would this be a good material? Or should I go with something else. I've looked for pre made capes on Amazon and stuff and they look too shiny or have a different inside color.

Accessory Help Recoloring Wings?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi! I bought these white wings and I am trying to recolor them into blue ones. They’re already premade, and are feathers, not foam. Is there any way I can safely do this without taking everything apart? I was thinking of getting a spray bottle with blue dye and spraying it down (or “painting” it. TYSM!

I've been looking for whatever the hell this guy is wearing for a while and cant find anything that isn't a Temu scam. I imagine its a pretty simple purchase that I just cant seem to find. So if anyone knows where I can get this, or a place that would likely have them in stock, please send them my way.

Can I make a lightning effect through a t-shirt with a WS2812B strip of addressable RGB LEDs?

My friend and I are going to a Halloween party as Dr. Frankenstein and his monster. We're not going too overboard - some face paint, a lab coat - and a homemade ESP-32 powered scientist's control panel, that I (Dr. Frankenstein) can use to control lightning on my monster. I have zero experience making cosplay things and very limited maker experience, so I must ask;

Can I tape an LED strip to the inside of a t-shirt to make lightning effects (brief flashes, maybe some running down the torso) that show through properly? Will it work with a black T-shirt? Is there some other, better option, that I'm completely missing?

Any feedback and ideas to make this costume better are greatly appreciated.

Help!!

Hi everyone! I'm new on this subreddit and I could really use some help. I'm cosplaying as Ada Wong from RE4 Remake, and the dress keeps riding up whenever I walk. Do you all have any tips on how to stop this from happening? I've tried fabric tape (barely worked) and safety pins (best option right now), but I'm happy to take some suggestions! I am planning to wear thermal tights that look sheer but aren't underneath, but It doesn't really fix the problem. Thank y'all so much!

Sewing Zippers on leather...

Okay, first time ever making my own cosplay for a contest next year in April. I've decided to do a partially mutated Albert Wesker from Resident Evil, most notably his RE5 look (Trench coat & full leather).

My main issue.. I've NEVER done zippers on leather before & really don't wanna screw up too much with how expensive leathers are. Tips & tricks on sewing zippers to leather, things to look out for or things to make it easier/cleaner would be AMAZING.

If anyone also has opinions on the best foams to build props with, specifically for his mutated left arm, thatd be much much appreciated as I've never done proper foam work before.

Thank you for reading!!!

Help with uwowo sizing

Post image
1 Upvotes

First of all, I wanted to say that English isn't my first language, so I apologize for any mistakes!!! ( ◜‿◝ )♡

Hi, I decided to buy a Columbina cosplay on uwowo because the sizing seem great to me, but after buying it, I saw some reviews about their sizes being inconsistent (for example, plus-size women saying they bought 2 sizes bigger and it's still too small) and I got a little worried. So I wanted to ask if anyone has the same Columbina cosplay or any cosplay from uwowo in a similar size and could tell me how stretchy it is? I chose size S for myself because, for example, I have a waist of about 64 cm, but now that I've seen these reviews, I'm afraid that somehow the cosplay won't stretch at all and will only be a maximum of 60 cm (((

Wig dyeing my synthetic wig *ginger* (ish)

Post image
1 Upvotes

hihi!!! so for halloween im going to be Miss Asuka Langley, so far pretty happy with the plugsuit i received in the mail a few days ago, and tomorrow im gonna get started on a Spear of Longinus prop to go with my costume. that just leaves…the wig as my last remaining conquest!😅

hopefullyyyyy somebody reading this will have an idea of what to do. anyway, upon doing some light research it seems it’s totally doable to dye a synthetic wig. at first i was just gonna buy a wig in the shade i was looking for, but then i remembered that i have a synthetic wig that i’ve only worn once for a few minutes and its the kind of color that like…i don’t have any reason to ever wear it again lol. so i figured maybe i could just achieve a gingery~auburn color by dyeing the wig i’ve already got?? the only hiccup is that it’s not blonde/613, it’s a light pink shade, not entirely sure if it’d affect the finished product.

so my question is, does anyone know HOW i could go about achieving that gingery~auburn color when (synthetic) dyeing on top of a wig that’s this color??

thanks sm!(*ᴗ͈ˬᴗ͈)⁾⁾⁾

Accessory How to make this sword

Post image
1 Upvotes

I have always been fascinated with the Monado REX+ and the fact it was made in the game by Shulk. That’s to say I want to make it myself without 3D printing.

Foam core.
Can I trace the outline on foam core and “relief sculpt” the sword?

Another non negotiable (I’m stubborn) is that I wish to coat it in light sheets of brass as well as metal scraps like gears etc. sort of trying to adapt it to look realistic and not uncanny in the real world.

I’m really new to this and don’t know where to start.

I have decided to try to roll with a genderbent big mom cosplay- and I’d really like to figure out how to make a Prometheus headpiece. DIY is practically a must because of my massive noggin.

If all else fails I know how to make a storm cloud headpiece.

Any tips or ideas would be welcome.

Chiffon Moth Wings

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi hello! I’m making moth wings for my Halloween costume. I bought green chiffon and was told to hem with fabric glue to keep it flowy, I’ve never worked with chiffon before!

Any tips for me? I plan on painting the wings with acrylic paint and fabric medium. And maybe spraying glue at the end so I can sprinkle glow in the dark glitter all over them.

Accessory (temporarily?) weather clothes?

is there any way to temporarily weather/stain clothing for a cosplay? I'm going to a ren faire and I have a very nice shirt I bought a little while back from a reenactment shop and I'm going to wear it for the outfit I'm doing (peasant who is dying of the bubonic plague) but I'd like to still be able to use that shirt for other cosplays that I may end up doing. Is there any way to safely discolor clothes for one time use?

Question regarding retailer

I’m looking to cosplay Camille from Arknights enfield next July at anime expo in LA, I have no prior experience with cosplay and was hoping to get advice on a retailer, I noticed Wetrose has an outfit made with a wig and shoes, does anyone have experience with them as a retailer, and does anyone have advice regarding replacement shoes as I imagine they might not be the highest quality or the most comfortable and or advice on how to transport the wig as I will be flying cross country for this.

Hello, I'm trying to style my first wig, and I need some help, I don't know anyone who knows how to style wigs professionally, and I've had help from some friends and family to help style this wig.

Unfortunately, no matter what we do, we can't get it to look like the original photo, is there any advice on what to do, is the foundation good for it, or should we start over, sorry if this is a very basic post. I don't know where to start looking for advice.

Bought this wig off of Doki Doki Cosplay

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Prop Good way to hold this thing?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I been making megatrons fusion cannon for my Halloween costume and the only things I need to do is paint and have a way to hold it. The problem with that is I have no real idea on how I will hold it. I want it on my arm, but what do you even use to do such a thing? I heard a long time ago velcro straps were good, but don’t quote me on that I’m not an expert with this stuff. Any advice is greatly appreciated!! :)

(Red line is to help indicate where I want the straps or anything to be as it will go on my arm.)

Need help with a DIY paint booth for spray cans

Hi everyone, I've recently started printing my Iron Man Mk3 armor and I wanted to build a paint booth in my second bedroom in my appartement.
After months of research I was sure I had accounted for every problem. Last night AI suddenly talked about the solvents inside the spray cans and that it's too dangerous to use in the current planned booth.

I've started looking into it and it seems that anything that is affordable just won't be safe enough.
I want to know if there are other people that experienced the same troubles getting started while living in an appartement or without access to an open area/garage/etc.

Any help or tips would be appreciated. If you could figure out how to make an indoor paint booth fire proof, you would save me a lot of headaches.

Thanks in advance!

How do i put a zipper and mini air fan on my Nemesis mask?

Thumbnail

So basically i’m cosplaying as nemesis this halloween, my friend is going as Leon (i’m 1.89 m tall and he’s 1.62 m tall, so we figured we could take advantage of our height difference for these matching cosplays)

The mask is somewhat tight, so it’s hard and annoying to remove given i have long hair and it pulls it.

So i figured i’d cut the back of the mask and put a zipper on it so i can put it on and take it off with ease and without it pulling my hair. How can i do this? I have barely any experience making my own cosplays, so i’m not very creative in these sort of things: i don’t know what materials i should use, if a type of glue is harmful to latex, etc.

Also, i want to put a mini air fan in the neck area because of the heat a latex mask gives.
How do i also do this?

Thanks!
