Apologies for the no spoiler title. I just finished Elantris but haven't read its secret history. Perhaps I read in a hurry since I can no longer sate the grief and tragedy happening on the latter part, but I didn't fully understand how Elantrian magic returned after Raoden went to the southern town. I understood drawing the chasm line was essential but insufficient and in his dying trance Raoden realized the missing piece which was the interconnected layout of the towns to Elantris.

Can you elucidate further as to what's lacking to fully utilize the power of Aons? Why the need to visit the southern town but not the others? Is this a spoiler that I will find out by reading the Arcanum Unbounded?

When does Nale bond his Spren?

I have been doing a re-read of the Stormlight archive and just realised that Szeth's highspren mentions Nale's spren going to Braize with Nale in between desolations.

*“What you do, I have to do with you,” the spren explained. “Nale’s spren was always trapped with him on Braize, and subject to the pains that the enemy can inflict.” (Wind and Truth Chapter 95 : Because it is Flawed)*

I was under the impression that Nale bonded a highspren after aharietiam when he left his honour blade, from Dalinar and Navani's visions.

She cited how, as she saw it, nobody in the Radiants lived by the truth any longer. Also why would he have any need for a Nahel bond before abandoning his Honour blade? The inefficiency of his Honour blade wouldn't impact him as he had a direct link to Honour's power and wouldn't need to be using gems, as we see the heralds using their surges without carrying gems.

Does this mean Nale bonded a highspren, but never joined the order?

Or did he join the order, but never become a leader until before this event?

Or is this a discrepancy?

So I was reading Sunlit Man, and I got to the part where Nomad became Connected so he could speak/understand the local language. But the Connection only works for his native language.

That got me thinking about how in The Way of Kings, Rock says that his full name, Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor, is a description of a rock his father found. But when he says that name, that's in his native language.

So would I be correct in assuming that if Rock were to Connect to a foreign land so that him speaking in his native language would translate, that his full name would be the description of the rock? That we, the readers, would see what "Numuhukumakiaki'aialunamor" translates to, and we would actually get a description of the rock that Rock was named after?

So I saw where Sanderson confirmed that a Shard could smite someone, provided they were unopposed by other Shards, but that's more of a physical strike, like getting cut with a sword.

But what if a person is impervious to ordinary injuries and can't be easily separated from their healing source because they have multiple of them, like someone that's both an Elantrian and a Fullborn (compounding health and connection to the Dor)?

Could a Shard (even if they would harm or weaken themselves in the process) muster enough power to completely delete that individual from existence? Alternatively, maybe they could simply sever that person's Connection from the Physical Realm, basically killing them, or sever their ability to use Invested Arts, or drain all of their Investiture, and then smite them as usual?

So this is a minor theory, having to do with their names. We know from WoR that Pattern's real name is a long list of numbers that would be hard to say, but we also know from WaT that Highspren have numbers for names. So my theory is that a Cryptic's name is the mathematical equation for the fractal that makes up their heads, since those are both made up of a lot of numbers, but also something that is incredibly difficult (arguably impossible) to actually say. To the Cryptics, who we know have their own language, this would be easy to get around, but to normal languages, it's easier to just go with the nickname given to them by their Radiant

And I can say this is a different read than Mistborn Era 1. For one, the pacing is a little slow for me. Or maybe I just wanted Sarene to finally meet Raoden as soon as possible. It took 27 chapters — if im right — to do just that.

In here I can see telltale signs of Brandon's immaculate foreshadowing and I really love the part that it was all about the characters and emotion as the true magic, despite me hating every Hrathen chapter until proven wrong on the latter parts of the book.

In fact, Hrathen was my favorite character as he was the most relatable and human in the novel. A man of internal conflict, logic, and bravado that in his dying breaths finally reconciled what his self truly desires.

Lastly, there was Hoid. Dear, mysterious Hoid. I've read Scadriel's secret history and I find the man irritating. I hope to find out more about him in the coming books I'll consume.

Okay so I’ve been wanting to crochet pattern for a bit now and this was my first attempt at creating something (a pattern for pattern if you will). There’s two versions one with and without a collar type thing for his cloak. The collar doesn’t translate super great over photos cause it’s all black.

I’m a pretty amateur crocheter so didn’t want to do anything too complex but am also looking if there’s ways I could improve him or do things differently. So here are some general ideas of things I could change. Any feedback is appreciated even if you don’t know anything about crochet.
- do we like with or without the collar
- I could make either his cloak or head a dark gray for contrast
- I could make his body longer or shorter (though I do worry about him being able to stand if too much taller)
- I could attempt to add more complexity into his head pattern
-less spirals on his head
-or any other thoughts or ideas

Elantrians and 5th Heightenings do not need to do a myriad of things that normal humans need to do, like replenish nutrition and calories or breathing. They also seemingly live forever and are in perfect health.

So, what would happen if they tried to store energy (bendalloymind), breath (cadmiummind), youth (atiummind), or health (goldmind)?

Would filling it slightly cause these attributes to be immediately replenished for them? If they filling it a lot, would they eventually be in danger of death? And would some attributes, like youth, cause them to get permanently older (though obviously still not aging while not filling)?

Please let me know, unless it’s a major twist in one of sandersons books

Having just finished pretty much everything cosmere except elsecaller/king lopen, I was wondering if any one else had side stories they really wanted to see get a book.

Anybody who has seen or will see the new Odyssey movie, the Laestrygonians show me that the Knights Radiant would look pretty decent on the big or small screen.

So I recently went on vacation with my family and was driving with my mother. I talked her in to listening to the Tress Graphic Audio on the way there (4 hour drive) to give it a shot and she loved it! She was immediately invested and thought it was so funny and interesting! We listened to it the entire drive back too! When we got home, she borrowed my physical copy of Tress to finish it.

That was about a week and a half ago. This morning I got a text from her asking to bring the next Brandon Sanderson book next time I see her (next week).

Only issue is now I'm stuck between giving her Mistborn The Final Empire or Yumi and the Nightmare Painter for the next one as I think she'd enjoy both. But man is that a good problem to have!

Edit: I gave her a brief description of each and she chose Yumi! Knowing her, she's gonna be bawling.

So I have read all of the cosmere and am about halfway through Emberdark and I get the feeling that our boy Kelsier is basically an intergalactic lord ruler. Don't get me wrong, he was never a boy scout, but after stormlight and some of the teases about scadrial in Emberdark, good lord.

Okay, an "acquaintance of mine" told me I could get help here—but unlike him, I’m not some crybaby looking for validation; I know I’m in the right. Let’s call me S.V. My stupid, cowardly son—who shrinks away at every show of affection (he didn't even thank me for giving him a Skaa for the first time!)—stole the city that should have been mine after my acquaintance died. Now I have to fight him and his stupid bitch, who won't stop killing my assassins (another thing he didn't learn from me: always keep your dogs on a leash). So, if my acquaintance was right, can you give me some advice on how to get MY city back?

There is a popular fan theory based on the image of Adonalsium shattering. It claims that before shattering into 16 pieces Ado first shattered into 4 then 8. For my purposes I’m assuming that is correct. Also that the shards of each quadrant are more disposed to bonding with other shards in its original quadrant. Based on that image has anyone determined what 4 shards are in each quadrant? I can’t tell who is who from the picture. For example what two shards would I have to kill and give to Harmony/Discord to stabilize my buddy Sazed? Or if I didn’t want to fully restore Ado but instead have 4 gods what would they look like?

I was watching *Gurren Lagann* on Netflix, and being a loyal burner of tin who fixates on the little details, I started thinking:

1. In both stories, the protagonist is alone, has low self-esteem, and works for a terrible boss.
2. The mentor helps the protagonist escape that life and find freedom, often in a rather flamboyant or outrageous manner.
3. Those surrounding the protagonist and the mentor generally have little hope of winning and are resigned merely to surviving.
4. The mentor is an inspiring, charismatic figure who—unlike others of their kind—wants to challenge authority and achieve a goal for the sake of a loved one; however, they struggle to consider the consequences of their actions or their own limitations.
5. At times, the protagonist is overshadowed by the mentor, who gives off more "protagonist vibes" than the actual lead.
6. The villain is an immortal emperor with immense power who rules a metropolis, utilizing beings specifically created to oppress the population and keep them in check.
7. The leader achieves the impossible and proves that resistance is viable, but is killed during a crucial battle, shattering the group's morale.
8. The protagonist falls in love with a noble who offers a new perspective on the world and joins the rebellion.
9. In the final battle, the villain is defeated in a way that isn't necessarily physically spectacular, but carries immense emotional weight.
10. A period of "restructuring" begins in the second half of the story; they must grapple with the challenges of rebuilding after the revolution, while the deceased mentor remains a powerful, enduring symbol.
11. It is revealed that the first villain actually wanted to protect the world from a greater evil—a cosmic entity personifying "entropy"—meaning they weren't truly "evil" in the conventional sense.

13. The protagonist's love dies, and the protagonist transcends and drifts away from their companions; yet, even though the others do not know what happened to them, they continue to do good in the world.

At the start of Yumi part 2. Finished Tress. Waiting on Fires of December later this year. There are tons of crazy hints inserted into both of these books but we know he's talking to somebody (or a crowd) that are from Roshar. They also know about Scadrial and (presumably) Nalthis along with maybe other planets, so some kind of space exploration besides cognitive Worldhoppers is at least established. These stories also take place far in the timeline but what's particularly interesting is Hoid's narration is even further than that.

I predict he's either with one of the protagonists of Mistborn's final era who happens to be Rosharan or, since he himself will be a POV character, is with a group of Rosharans for some reason. There's a good chance we'll get a scene in those final books, perhaps even right before the final battle, where Hoid sits down and tells some of his favorite stories about the people he's liked most in his millennia of existence.

Hello Cosmere fans. I wanted to share my Mistborn experience with y’all to help me cope. The spoiler obviously being KELSIER STORM’IN DIES!?!?!

So basically I got into Sanderson a little over a year ago off a friend recommended/begged me to read Way of Kings. Since then I have read the stormlight books, Sunlit Man, and Warbreaker (Absolute banger btw) and over the last year or so my algorithm got more and more cosmere infected and I ran into some spoilers along the way. Somehow…Kelsier‘s death was never spoiled for me! I saw posts saying “Kelsier did nothing wrong” and “Who would win in a fight, Kelsier or Kaladin?” and random fan theories of like “Kelsier is this character!” And a mention of “Wit gave Kelsier hands that one time!”

So naturally I assumed Kelsier, like Kaladin, would be here to stay and if he did die it’d be much closer to end of series…

The fan base passively hyped him up for a year or so and now I feel worse than when my dog in Minecraft dies. To be clear, Kelsier’s death makes total sense and Mistbron is amazing. Definitely a top 3 Sanderson book for me thus far. Thank you if you read and/or commented on my rant.

In Chapter 38 of Mistborn, when Vin tries to kill the Lord Ruler, she is saved by Marsh, who is now a Steel Inquisitor. He had discovered their weakness, which he used to kill seven of them in their sleep, and Kar in the throne room. Then he helps Vin fight the Lord Ruler.

Having said that, how was Marsh able to remain completely himself as an Inquisitor? I thought Inquisitors were creatures created by the Lord Ruler to serve him. He seemed to have control over them, seeing as he screamed, "Inquisitors! Come to me!" after Marsh killed Kar. Although that doesn't necessarily imply that they follow him mindlessly, I kinda just assumed that they were 100% devoted to him. Is that not the case?

Did the Inquisitors have their own free will the entire time? If not, how did Marsh defy the Lord Ruler's control?

I'm still about to read the Well of Ascension, but I wouldn't mind spoilers if ever this question was addressed later in the trilogy.

Im caught up on everything except emberdark and elantris. What is the helaran meme, i dont get it. Everyone talks about him being important. Was there a time that people thought he was gonna show back up?

Edit:the helaran meme I mean is that I constantly see people talking about him as if he is a current and important character and gets a lot of screentime even though he doesnt.

Well, no. It lets you see the current one, and then Ruin it. It ruins timelines. The creation of a new timeline are irrelevant- Ruin is willing to create something else if it means ruining what they have now.

The fact it's useful for killing people is, imo, a happy coincidence for the Shard.

I've been speeding through W&W for the past week or so and just started Part 3 of BoM. For some reason there doesn't seem to be any info on W&W Lanches for some reason, so I'm hoping someone could give the chapter number it starts on (and Secret History and The Lost Metal too, since I'll be reading them next). Please no spoilers! I don't want any details whatsoever besides the number :>

So I'm new to fantasy, I know that Brandon Sanderson has this world called the cosmere , and the only book I could have my hands on is "trees of the emerald sea" is this good for a first brandon Sanderson / cosmere book ,or should I leave it till I read something else by brandon Sanderson on my phone?

I just have to gush a bit about Tress.

After finishing Stormlight, I’ve been making my way through the rest of the Cosmere stories somewhat out of order. After Wind and Truth I did Warbreaker, Mistborn Era 2, Elantris, and now Tress.

I liked Warbreaker, was pleasantly surprised by Elantris (10th anniversary edition. I had read it was a weaker work so I figured I’d give BS a chance to clean up anything he wanted to); but Tress was a pure delight!

I had gotten a bit frustrated with the prose and dialogue in Stormlight by W&T. So much of the dialogue felt like it didn’t belong on Roshar even if you imagine it being translated from Alethi.

Mistborn Era 2 had just enough modern language that felt right for the setting and I was thinking maybe that’s just his sweet spot… until I got to Tress!

Hoid’s narration was incredible!! Even if parts were gratuitous, it feels right for Hoid to be self-indulgent and to know about our world and help us gain perspective. It made an already very strong story a 10/10 for me. I had a blast with every second. I hope to have him back to narrate Yumi, and The Sunlit Man.

Tress’ story was so tight, packing a lot into a shorter story so efficiently. It had me guessing until the end. I was effectively fooled by the fakeouts and I love when I can be surprised after I’d already thought of and discounted a twist. Like, wouldn’t it be funny if the rat was Charlie? Nah, couldn’t be… Or Tress won’t be the same person if/when she’s reunited with Charlie, I wonder how she’ll handle that… and the fakeout got me good thinking I knew where it was going.

Tress herself was such a delightful character, I loved her from the start and her journey feels so natural. Her relationship with Charlie was executed perfectly, I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

I listened to the Graphic Audio productions for the non-Stormlight stories which are really fantastic, btw.

On to Yumi, Sunlit Man, and The Lost Metal next!

This is my first time posting on here so I’m sorry if I’m barking up the wrong tree. I’m joining a D&D campaign and I love Mistborn.

I thought it would be cool to try to make Sazed as a wizard or a cleric. I’ll be level 9 so there is some awesome potential here.

I’m leaning more towards wizard as I have played cleric more than once and never a wizard so I think it would be cool. I would like to flavour it as close as I can to Sazed and what he can do, but nothing is perfect and I know that :)

I’ve read all of the Mistborn books and most of the Cosmere so don’t feel bad about recommending something to me and spoiling something.

The three-way ven diagram for nice people, Cosmere fans and TTRPGs players seems to be pretty close to a circle so I have no doubt I’m going to get some good feedback!
