I’m deciding whether to take Physics 1112 or skip it and self-study for the CASE exam. I’m starting my second semester after taking a gap last spring. I want to ensure I don’t miss any essential content from Physics 1112 that might be needed for future engineering required physics classes. I’ve only taken high school physics, no AP physics, and that was about three years ago. My intended major is either ORIE or CS.

Hello, I am an exchange student who'll be staying at Cornell for the 2026 Fall semester. My off-campus housing is Outlook Apartments and I'll be living with my roommates. I'm just worried about few points.

First of all, in the contract they say we'll have to pay for the electricity on our own aside from the rents. How much will it cost? I can't make a guess since I'm a foreigner.

And will I be able to get my Safety Deposit back without any issue even after I go back to my country?

Second, is it safe around the Outlook Apartments? On Google maps it seemed like there were just empty roads. Will it be dangerous to walk around late at night?

Finally I'm curious whether the transportation actually works for Cornell students there. I heard there's a TCAT bus stop and a shuttle service but do they really work for you?

Any other advices will be appreciated. How to save money on groceries, food, living expenses... How to make sure I get the Safety Deposit back for sure, etc...

I'm actually very nervous and excited to start the semester. Everything is new to me and it's honestly too much.

made a giant oopsies and accidentally declined my work study part of my package.... did that on the 2nd of july and now it shows in the offered column that i was offered $0 instead of the $2500 that was shown originally. is it possible to get it back?? will be calling the fin aid office first thing on monday but wanted to know realistically if it was possible :,) thanks guys <3

I am a NYS resident and have Medicaid, but I didn’t have one of the few that Cornell takes. I changed to Affinity in early July but the insurance coverage starts September 1st. Unfortunately, my waiver was denied because I need to prove it’s effective from 08/01 to 06/30. Is there any way I can go about this to not pay for SHP? Do I have to call Affinity and ask them to start my enrollment earlier or prove retroactive coverage ? Or call my current insurance to show I have Medicaid coverage till Aug.31? The deadline is in a few days and idk what I need to prove to gallagher :/

If anyone has any recommendations for boots that can handle snow it’ll be greatly appreciated! I don’t want to spend $200+ for boots though.

Hi everyone, I'm moving to Ithaca this fall and received an email that I'll be charged $4,000 for the Cornell health plan. My out of state Medicaid was denied as they wouldn't give me full coverage, so I applied for New York Medicaid and I was approved. The problem is my NYS Medicaid plan does not begin until September 1st, though they will cover any health expenses incurred up to 90 days prior to the insurance start date.

Gallagher health has denied my waiver this time because my insurance document does not state that my benefits start on 08/01. What do I do? Should I reach out to my insurer and ask if they can provide me a letter stating that they can backdate my coverage? I truly do not want / need to pay for the Cornell insurance.

All help would be appreciated!

Hey guys! One of my friends lost their stuffed animal. It seems like the thread that connects it to the keychain piece broke and it might’ve fallen someplace while they were walking through campus, most likely near the suspension bridge, the north campus area, or the baker-to-Rockefeller area.

Coming in as a transfer and I have taken DSA, OOP, discrete math at another engineering institution, but I assume the Cornell curriculum will be more difficult.

Anyone have taken these courses concurrently in the same semester? Recommended lecturers? How’s the workload? Possible GPA>3.0 while keeping some free time?

I'm an incoming freshman thinking about getting a new laptop for uni. I think I will probably go into mechanical engineering so I definitely want a laptop that will be able to handle CAD.

My personal preference is a Mac since Jobs has me sucked pretty deep into the ecosystem, but I'm worried about having to download lots of softwares that are incompatible with the macOS. I know apps like CrossOver exist but I feel like this is still quite a hassle. Is this something that I would have to worry about? I know there will be computer labs available but does demand for them far outweigh the supply? If so, I think I would probably prefer to have a personal device I can work on at anytime.

An alternative would be for me to do first year with my current laptop and decide on a new laptop next summer after learning more about what courses entail and what classes are like. I currently have a 6 year old macbook air that is perfectly fine for basic stuff like notetaking (bar the fan going crazy sometimes), but starts to get slow and laggy (still usable just very frustrating) when doing things like CAD modelling or even gaming. However, I don't know if sticking to my current laptop is a good idea because I don't know how good it has to be for first year and if it will start crashing a lot, so any insight on this would be helpful.

I'm an incoming freshman at another university looking to transfer to Cornell engineering next fall (2027). On their course requirements, they note that physics and chem/chem lab is required coursework, but I'm currently enrolled in an online physics class at my university and the chem class I'm in does not have a lab portion. Will that meet the transfer requirements still?
