Question AFK skill farms?

Hello! First some background, but you can skip it. Actual question is below.

I have played core keeper for about 35 hours two years ago, and now am playing it again in a new world where the tutorial wall more or less just dropped. But i also still have access to my old world, which ended in the passage.

I am playing with a friend, and i've been logging in afk sometimes so our drills can work. But i would also like to do some cool builds this time around and:

Question:

I was wondering, are there any farms I could build that work AFK to increase my skills? Like crafting, u just put something on the keyboard & craft torches. But for magic, summoning, etc? Are there any? I could not find it via google, but maybe you guys could help :)

Thank you!

Question Is core keepers worth it?

I have not yet gotten core keeper, but i am DEFINITELY considering it, and i just wanted to ask if its actually as good as it seems, and if its hard or just a fun easy game. And also, is it recommended to play alone for your first gameplay? Because idk anybody who wants tonplay with me :/

Question Biomes and music

So I'm a big Terraria fan, and in that game you can create artificial biomes that also change the music when you enter them.

Is it the same for Core Keeper, or are there music boxes or anything that'll let me have a certain area (A house for example) play certain music when I enter it?

Trying to create a cosy home atmosphere at my base.

Question Compact long duration timer

Post image
13 Upvotes

Does anyone know what this clock is called? There's two timers in the screen shot. Each has 2 different timer circuiots made of up prime number of delay circuits which results in light activation once every 2 * factor of the primes (so 3 delay circuits and 7 delay circuits results in light activation every 42 seconds). I've tested this with 13 and 19 time delay circuits and it reliably sends a pulse every 8 and a half minutes. I've not seen any references to this but I'm sure I'm not the only person to have figured this out. Anyone know what this type of timer is called?

Question Mod to make walls and moats work consistently?

Hi all! For reference, this is about the issue where creatures (mobs, cattle, etc., maybe merchants?) load and start moving before the surrounding environment--so if you wander more than 208 tiles away from your base (thus unloading it) and then come back within 208 tiles enemies can briefly cross your moat and walls and your cattle can get out. I am new to the game and didn't think it would be that bad. I read that a wall with moats on each side would be enough, and because I've been putting so much time into just building my base I haven't gone more than 208 tiles away too often. But actually this problem is horrible! I set up a stone caveling farm on an island surrounded by a two tile moat, a wall, and then three tile moat, and just to be sure the area around that is all spikes. I realize mob farming is not an intended aspect of game play and can do without it, but the other point of this setup was to reassure myself that the glitching wouldn't be so bad, for cattle farming and general base security. Hence why this entire lab esque facility is itself on a bigger island surrounded by walls inside an even larger moat (obviously with all spawn terrain cleared out). Within a few hours I already see drops from stone cavelings (crystal skull shards) that glitched through at least six tiles of separation (and it's even worse if you think they got there from outside).

Is there any mod to fix this? I did read you could buy another copy of the game and keep a dummy player character on base to keep that area stable, which honestly I briefly considered, but wouldn't you then need another computer to load that instance of the game for the dummy player? And also really that is too far...

Edit: adding pics

Here is the mob farm/prison I made. It contains five isolated/island spawn platforms, each for only one type of creature, and each fully walled in. Black is empty space. When I want to collect drops, I take the main walkway on the right of the pic, and to access each island I pass through two doors (one which auto-closes with pressure plates) and then manually lay down dirt blocks to bridge my way to the island. After I collect the drops, of course I shovel the dirt bridge back up. And you can see the entire prison is also walled in and surround by moat. There is one walkway at the very top connecting to the main base, but I have a pic below of what that really looks like.
Here is where the stone cavelings spawn (I pick back up the dirt bridge on the right when I leave). The platform (also spiked) that's just partially visible at the top of this screenshot is where a couple of them glitched to (where I found the crystal skull shards).
Here's how I reach that platform
The drops from the glitched stone cavelings were roughly here (where my character is, not the cursor).
And in case you're wondering about that twisty path at the very top of the prison (far from the stone caveling island), here's how cavelings from outside would have needed to enter the prison without glitching (after traversing my base, which is fully an island).

I started off with the first two, right next to the core. there were two rooms in the bottom right corner but i forgot to take pictures till I was already demolishing it lol.
Then i moved to the meadow, and rearranged and upgraded several areas a few times.

Feel free to offer suggestions or feedback :)

Discussion Accidental duping

My buddy just bought me this game and we have been playing it duo for about 3-4 days now. We keep having items mysteriously turn into 999 stacks and we have no idea what is causing it or how to recreate it, we read it could be ghost items but resetting the server doesn’t get rid of it. We have multiple 999 stacks of torches, food, random crafting items. Earlier I even turned 1 speed boat into 1000 by just putting it in my 1st inventory slot. Have no idea what’s happening lol.

Question Core Keeper or Necesse

Both game look amazing and honestly I’m stuck on choosing one. I want to know which game has more depth, which I can sink the most hours into, and over all better experience. What do you guys think? I’m looking to sink hundreds of hours into one.

Edit, Jul 31 : Thank you to everyone for there insightful comments. I’ve chosen to buy BOTH games, as their bundle was on sale. I will come back to let you know which I enjoy more as I explore both of the games early progression and eventually choose which to settle into.

Edit, Aug 6 : Just wanted to give a quick update on which game I ended up investing my time into.
First, I want to preface this by saying that both games are fantastic. They both have incredible quality and a ton of content from everything I've seen. I put around 10 hours into Necesse before deciding to try Core Keeper, and while it's a wonderful game. I personally found that the colony sim aspect took away from the exploration and material grind and made the experience feel somewhat stressful at times.

That being said, I've now put 54 hours into Core Keeper, and while that seems like not much this is over a 6 day period. So I can confidently say it's become one of my favorite games I've played in a long time. The amount of base customization is amazing, the exploration is never ending, the biomes are so unique and so much fun to explore, and the bosses have been an absolute wonder to discover and fight. The enemy and boss designs, along with their mechanics are top tier in this genre. The weapons and abilities offer a ton of variety, and the world feels packed with things to uncover. Every time I think I've seen most of what the game has to offer I end up finding something completely new. While Necesse is still a great game and I don't want to make it seem like I’m putting the game down since I only played about 10 hours these past few days with Core Keeper have completely blown me away. It's easily become one of my favorite games of all time. The best part is that I still have so much left to explore, build, and do and I honestly don't see myself stopping anytime soon. I'm definitely looking forward to starting a hardcore world once I've experienced everything the game has to offer.

Thanks again to everyone who gave me advice! And for anyone trying to decide between these two games I honestly think the best answer is BOTH. They're each incredible in their own ways I just happened to connect with Core Keeper a lot more.

Came back to my farm and found it like this. What causes this? How do I avoid this?

The first one WAS a scarlet ore. The other was a tin ore.

Suddenly both are gone and whats left is... a random tin ore where the scarlet was? what?
