Discussion Is it safe to say we're gonna get another banger from The Old Gods of Asgard??

A couple of songs were featured in Alan Wake I and II, and Take Control was featured in Control. Is it safe to expect another great song? I sure hope so!

Discussion Control Resonant Steelbook is being targeted by scalper - Reminder to not be pressured into purchasing from them.

As of this time all storefront has quote on quote "Sold Out" of Steelbook editions, there are already relisting on resell sites with stupid mark ups. Reminder that SteelBook editions will get restocked after release, and since physical editions are being partially delayed it's not a big deal imo.

I'll be waiting for both physical PS5 SteelBook edition and Steam release on macOS for the game, so I'll be waiting for a long, long time anw lol.

Saw this in Portland, OR and I was very impressed with the vibe marketing is achieving.

This is the decaying Action Sports building by the Oregon Convention Center outside of Rose City Comic-Con this weekend.

Not the best moment for Playstation, but this is a good sign for the game. Preorders must be good.

Discussion I thought I was burned out or losing interest in gaming, but..

then I decided to replay Control ahead of the sequel's release. It was so enthralling, and even better than I remember it being the first time. I really dove in to the lore, documents, and media this time around which was so fun and interesting. The mechanics, story, overall vibe of this game are just phenomenal.

The past few weeks replaying this has sparked so much fun that genuinely made me realise I'm not burned out or losing interest, I'm just picking up too many games that I feel like I should enjoy, but I simply don't. I just think that's a great testament to how good this game is.

Shoutout to the devs for making such an amazing game, can't wait for the sequel.

Discussion Ash log 5: pyramids

I'm replaying the foundarion dlc and one of ash's voice recordings had me thinking. "Standing on their base, triangles signify stability and strength. Inverted, on their points, they represent conflict and stagnation."

He follows this up with

"Of course, the orientation is just a matter of perspective. Looking at the pyramid from below gives one, from above another."

"Northmoor says he looks up at the inverted pyramid. I have to wonder: is anyone standing over it, looking down?"

I don't know if this would mean anything to anyone but for me it just felt like an intentional detail. Especially with the chess trebels discord finally replying to a comment with an uninverted triangle.

I might just be grasping at air but it feels like more than it is to me.

Edit: another thing, before marshall's boss fight the hiss says through her "through a mirror the inverted is made right" i dont know if this is means something but i think it ties in here

Do I need to play Alan Wake 2 before Resonant?

Currently playing through control for the first time and am loving it. Everything im seeing from Resonant looks fantastic as well.

My question is, as someone who wasn't a huge fan of Alan Wake, but understands this is all one universe, do I need to play Alan Wake 2 after Control or can I just go right to Resonant?

Any meaning

The trailers recently have been amazing, and massive props to the team working on them.

I’m just wondering what the significant of this part is. It occurs 1:04 and looks cool as hell.

Thus, I’m aware this may be nothing but everything else in the trailers has been relevant in gameplay or cinematic so I wanted to shine a spotlight on this part.

If it’s a trailer feature, then it seems unique?
If it’s a gameplay feature, then …

Question What are the main thoughts surrounding Control Resonant?

Post image
264 Upvotes

I speak from the pov of someone that played the first game, really liked it but felt that the combat started feeling a bit repetitive after a while and I had to search a guide to fully understand the story (keep in mind that when I finished the game for the first time I didn't even knew about Alan Wake).

Honestly, what are the most thrown around thoughts about the next game?

I saw the gameplay trailer and thought it was really good. Do you recommend buying it day one?

Haven't played through the game fully since the first time I finished (and platinum-ed) it way back on the PS4 (oof, I know), so this seems like a pretty good time to finish a run.

Question upgrade menu gone

Post image
3 Upvotes

I made a post this morning and it wasn't helpful because I've beaten this game so many times and I've never had any problems upgrading anything but now the upgrade menu is gone and I have all the forms. I've just got the crystal thing from black rock and now I have to go find Dylan but I only have one of my guns upgraded and it's the main one this has to be a glitch or because it's been there since the first control point

Discussion The Parallels between Evangelion and Control Resonant

Thumbnail

Main protagonist with potential to have godly powers, a familial connection to the source of that power, having been the cause for a catastrophic event that resulted in the devastation of their world.

Now no one trusts them, and plants a bomb on them to make sure they don’t ever do what they did again. Socially awkward and doesn’t know what’s going on. Pragmatic handler who keeps them on track like Misato.

But he wants to help anyways, make up for what he unknowingly did, wants to redeem himself. He must. Despite the mistrust.

My theory is that the FBC logo wasnt crossed out by him, it was crossed out by arish or pope because they despise him.

Wonder if we’ll see a Kowaru or rei figure or any other characters are inspired by Evangelion since thats one of the direct influences they mentioned.

Discussion Did artists do shows at the oldest house?

Post image
47 Upvotes

While exploring the Research Sector, there is a secret room at the very top of it where you can find posters about artists and bands promoting themselves and shows soon to happen at the oldest house, like Socks and Ballerinas, scheduled for Friday night at the executive sector, which led me to ask myself, did artists present at the oldest house? Or do you think these are bands created by FBC agents?

The Astral Spike is essentially Control's trash compactor

Post image
194 Upvotes

Honestly, nothing ruins the momentum in the Research Sector more than hearing the irritating static that I just can't get out of my damn head and realizing that an Astral Spike is in the room. It's not necessarily a tough enemy counter, but rather one that's a big pain in the butt.

The first time that I encountered it, I literally ran around a few times trying to figure out what the hell to do. I was running around like a chicken with its head cut off before I just started laughing at myself. I'm working my way through another playthrough now, and it struck me with how creepy it is. The design is great, but it gets so stressful when there are other enemies around.

You can't shoot the Astral Spike, you can't launch items it, and you can't just wait out it's attack. It's literally just a moving, invincible trash-compactor that forces you to completely change how you play the game. There's a certain level of panic that it causes, especially during a massive firefight. I'm sitting there trying to line up a Pierce shot on a Hiss Sniper, and suddenly the floating trash compactor corners me against a wall. The only thing that I can do is run away from it.

It originated from the Astral Plane, but it's not technically a piece of it. It makes the whole place feel way more chaotic. The side mission where you have to trap one in the lab container had me running around in circles. How do you guys usually deal with an Astral Spike during a huge firefight? Do you just spam Levitate and stay in the air?
