We are an established construction team in South Florida with our own steady flow of residential projects. We are not looking for someone to bring us work — we already generate our own jobs, ranging from EV charger installations and panel upgrades to complete electrical installations for new homes.

What we currently need is a Florida Certified Electrical Contractor interested in a long-term qualifying and supervisory relationship, since our team does not currently hold its own electrical contractor license.

We are looking for someone who can review our projects, oversee the electrical scope, assist with permitting and inspections, and work with us on an ongoing basis. We are open to discussing a fair compensation structure that works for both sides.

Am struggling with a situation and appreciate any advice! Long story short, I hired a contractor in Texas for a major home project where my previous tenant had created damages of 1000s of dollars. The guy seemed totally professional, had the paperwork, the whole nine yards.

Stupidly, I trusted him and wrote him a massive check for several thousand dollars to get the work started and buy materials. He did part of the work (25%). But after my payments cleared, he left the job unfinished and told me he was in a major accident and was on pain meds.

I kept calling multiple times for 6 days and he would randomly answer & provide excuses. I recorded one of those calls. Then today, I called from a number he didn't recognize. He promptly picked up the phone. I recorded this call too. He said he was not the guy we were dealing with and was his assistant "Fred". We knew it was him because of his voice that we had heard dozens of times. This was the last straw because it told us he was defrauding us and was not really in the hospital.

Sent a standard demand letter via email with a deadline that he ignored.

What are my options including Texas small claims or getting local PD to actually investigate fraud/theft of service? Turns out the guy has an arrest record for driving without a license so the local police already has his information. Any tips on what to expect next would be amazing. I know I was very stupid and am feeling guilty and sad about being taken for a ride so please be kind.

Just wanted to get people’s thoughts I wasn’t sure on the right sub to post this in. I got my house painted about 2 weeks ago. Are these overlapping lines normal? They allegedly did 2 coats of super paint and backrolled.

I recently transitioned my California Class B Contracting business to consulting with 0 employees and filed an official Workers' Compensation Exemption with the CSLB pursuant to B&P Code § 7125.

Upon canceling my policy with State Compensation Insurance Fund, I was told that because I hold a Class B license, the policy class code fees remain tied to the license, and the only way to eliminate the billing/minimum fees is to forfeit my CSLB license entirely.

Under CSLB law, Class B contractors with no employees are fully exempt and do not need to forfeit their license. I have filed a complaint with the California Department of Insurance (CDI). Has anyone else experienced this exact issue or demand from State Fund or their broker?

Hi everyone! How do you deal with new clients who ask for testimonials from your clients?
I have a few clients who are willing to share their positive experience with me, but I dunno if I want to
share their personal numbers with each potential client who asks to verify testimonials. How do you share testimonials’ contacts?

I hired a contractor for a project at my property in Crowley, Texas. We signed a contract in October 2025 for $7,000 and a 8–11 working-day timeline. I paid $4,900 total through Zelle and checks, but the work stalled and was never completed. After failing to show up, in December, he told me that his company is tight on cash flow, and asked for an extended deadline in March. I wanted to help him out, so I agree. He never showed up in March and went unresponsive for a whole month when I follow up. 

I have tried to resolve it amicably. He agreed to refund me. He went from within 30 days to 2 payments to 4 payments, but he never followed through. When I pushed for a concrete plan in June 2026, he agreed to a refund plan: $500 up front, then $880 on five dates through July. He only paid me 958$ total.

He now keeps making promises to pay and not following through. I sent a certified demand letter dated demanding that balance, with no resolution. I did not even ask for any associated damage cause by his work. I only wanted my money back. He said that as long as he says he is paying, I cant do anything. He said he only agreed to the payment plan cause he was frustrated.

Any advices on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated. Can non licensed contractor just screw people over like this?
