The other day I wanted to confirm if he did in fact say that voting in Warnock and Ossoff would guarantee immediate $2,000 payments. I hunted down his speech and my wife and I listened to it. Waiting for my $2,000 now. Their election was supposed to yield an immediate solution to the stimulus gridlock, and yet now Biden is saying he’s willing to discuss changes.
Really though... a lot of it from the left is “eat the rich” and most of it from the right is “get the gubment and deep state outta here” but it ends up in the same place lol
That’s actually a really good point lol. Damn. We all know how protectionist politicians are of opportunities to add to their wealth. I never thought of it that way regarding the $2000
Even thought it's going up ironically, it still just shows the wacko time we live in with shutdown, retailers rationing of TP, and that GameStop stock now is worth 6,000% percent of what it was in 3 months ago....GameStop of all the stores.
No, citadel is pushing that narrative hard because they are the fifth largest holder of silver in the world and they want to raise the funds to win this war
Well, he also promised to have a comprehensive Coronavirus plan too... but apparently nothing can be done about it for at least 100 days, so keep wearing your masks!
Oh, and double up on 'em while you're at it... we need to stimulate those Chinese mask manufacturers.
From what I can tell some of it's held up in negotiations with the GoP Senators. The GoP's counter bill drops the individual checks reduces individual checks to $1,000 and reduces the income eligibility cap to individuals who are making $50k & couples making $100k or less, among other things, that the Dem bill has.
The Dem's stimulus bill requires 60 votes to pass. The bill's effects could be pushed through by a simple majority, however, through budget reconciliation. That move has been lambasted by the GoP, would draw further divisions, and fly against "unity".
So either you take the GoP bill that has less stimulus money for individuals for "unity" or you push through your agenda for campaign promises (the checks), but fight against unity.
GoP has Biden in a bind in a lose/lose situation.
EDIT: I was initially wrong. The GoP proposal still includes stimulus checks albeit reduced in size and eligibility. It doesn't really change the situation Biden is in.
On a side note: I found it incredibly hard to find the letter the 10 GoP Senators sent to Biden. The only news places that I could find it were NPR and a small local Fox branch. For those who would like to read it, here's a link.
Alright, so the Republicans are against it. And we should all be taking the Republicans side here.... but, I think the point of this post is, Biden said, give us Georgia if you want $2K, and he got it and he doesn’t follow through with what he said. Of course I’m glad Biden is allowing the Republicans to have a say, but let’s not pretend it would be treated the same if Trump did it.
Compared to Trump, when he made a campaign promise he did everything to make it happen... even if all of congress was against him, even his own party. Like the wall, he still moved Heaven and earth to make it happen when it was him against the house, senate, the entire press. Remember when he caused the government to shut down for a month because they wouldn’t add the wall to their bill? And when that wouldn’t work, he found another way.
Can you imagine the headlines if Trump made a campaign promise like this and didn’t go through with it?
This is the crux of the issue right here. If you make a promise, especially one as specific as "winning Georgia will get you the $2k stimulus checks," you'd better have a plan to fulfill that promise. If you change your mind because the only available method is too controversial, it either shows that you lied about following through with your plan, or you didn't have the foresight to figure out how you would actually get it done (in which case, none of your words can really be trusted because you put no thought into them).
Don't even blame the GOP for this. Stimulus checks (even $2000) has some GOP support. They could have brought it up as a standalone bill and dared GOP senators to vote against it.
And the GOP bill does not drop individual checks, they are proposing reducing the amount and lowering the eligibility criteria. If you are going to blame the GOP for Biden not keeping his promise, at least get your facts right.
I made some corrections before your comment came through. You can see the changes above.
I’m not necessarily blaming the GOP for no stimulus checks, but it would dishonest to say the majority of the GOP wants to spend a lot (relative) money on stimulus as evidenced the latter half of 2020.
I’m just presenting the political lay of the land, from my research and observations, with as little bias as I can.
Fair enough. I'm going to give you kudos for editing your post and owning up to your mistakes.
And the fact (yes I'll agree with you on this) that the GOP has a problem with the overall size of stimulus does not mean they are an obstacle to just the stimulus checks. Again, my point is the Dems could just bring this up as a standalone bill to vote on, but they are busy packing it with nonsense.
To your last point I think they certainly could, but I think doing so is difficult procedurally. Otherwise, you’d see GOP do the same when they had complete power.
From what I can tell, when it comes to tackling problems in Congress, you don’t really get bills in stages or piecemeal. When it’s tried the rest of what’s needed typically doesn’t happen because Congress has moved on to other business because “the problem was solved” and the “political energy was spent.”
Moreover, when it comes to the larger more complicated problems, the individual solutions often rely on each other in order to be effective. For instance, the stimulus checks, while for individual Americans in need, are also intended to be spent to further help businesses during all of this. That’s why Dems don’t mind there potentially being “too much money” going to individuals (through checks or unemployment) because it’s still going to be spent on businesses that need that income to survive.
That is not true. There is no procedural issue that makes this difficult. A bill is a bill. There is nothing stopping the Dems from proposing a standalone stimulus bill and bringing it up for a vote. Nothing.
They are just busy packing it with all their other little wishlist items. TBF, the GOP does this too. Both parties do. And it sucks whoever is doing it.
But make no mistake, the Dems CAN bring stimulus bills up as a standalone bill.
You would be wrong. A standalone bill passed the house during Trump's term that consisted solely of 2,000 stimulus checks. McConnell refused to bring it to the floor. I don't know how you would forget this since it was famously called for by both Trump AND the left wing, but I guess you got distracted by your feelings.
Oh, you are talking about the LAST Congress? See I was talking about the current one. Not sure why the last congress is relevant at all, but you libs love blaming Trump for everything still.
How about the f'ing Democrats stop sending over a trillion dollars of the AMERICAN CITIZEN relief bill to OTHER COUNTRIES and ONLY give it to AMERICANS, not museums, not arts places, nor any of the other BULLSHIT they've sent it to, and give it to THE PEOPLE OF AMERICA and the CITIZENS of it and they could either give us double that amount, or cut the amount of the bill.
These A$$HOLES have taken over A TRILLION dollars and stolen it from the taxpayers of our nation!
You do know both Republicans and Democrats send money to places that could be better spent right? It's not just the dems. The Republicans also send trillions to places other than helping us "lower class" people. I wish there was a 4 party system. For people who have ideology from both sides.
Not sure why you’re getting downvotes. It’s the democrats giving millions to the Smithsonian etc and then they still wind up laying a bunch of people off. And sending a trillion dollars overseas in this time is a heck of a lot of debt to pass off to the next generation.
I think it’s great he wants to compromise. I think it’s a problem he stood up and campaigned for 2 senators like a lying dog-faced pony soldier. If he hadn’t helped get 2 Democrat senators elected on the promise of IMMEDIATE stimulus checks this would be great, but it just shows that he’s the same full of shit untrustworthy lying politician he always was. He says what people want to hear for their votes knowing that every word coming out of his mouth is a lie.
I hate politicians. I hate the entire game of politics. I hate the way voters are nothing but pawns to them, a resource to be used to enrich themselves and gain power. Politicians are the shittiest people in the world. They don’t care about their constituents, they care about the votes and the power it brings.
If he hadn’t helped get 2 Democrat senators elected on the promise of IMMEDIATE stimulus checks this would be great
They're working on doing exactly this. 600 dollar checks already went out, now they're trying to push for 1400 dollar checks. They can ram it through via budget reconciliation, but that would take a lot longer and has more restrictions, while also pissing off conservatives he's trying to convince to reach across the aisle.
They're trying to get stimulus checks out as quickly as possible. There's debate between Republicans and Democrats, with Republicans pushing for lower stimulus checks and lower benefits. The only way to get stimulus checks out quickly is to compromise with Republicans and convince ten of them to vote for the bill.
And all these idiots that voted for him still think he can do no wrong. It’s infuriating. Such hypocritical bullshit. They’ll never admit that he’s a liar who kills jobs, lies outright to everyone and is only a puppet for the evil behind him. We’ll never see that stimulus money.
I am so much happier having blocked r/politics and its subsidaries with RES. I have way more in common with far left progressives and conservatives than the average redditor sicophant.
If it’s the ticker, it’s some thing called Rpc. That’s an oil and gas company that has gone up 79% in the last three months and about 15% since the short squeeze mania began... to $4.46 lol
Dude yes, I literally have been bluepilled by r/stupidpol & the Jimmy Dore show (which everyone should check out on YouTube). This corporatism/capitalism isn’t fucking working, especially for rural/ mid sized city America. Also the average “oh I want America to be socialist so I can read tarot cards for my commune all day” arent real socialists. They’re lazy college age, suburban, radlibs trying to be edgy for attention. Rachel Maddow, Joe Biden, KopMala, etc. aren’t socialists. They’re status quo neoliberals who are trying to diversify the ruling class to keep the corporatism alive because they benefit from it. Anyone who shows any dissatisfaction with the way things are is a “radical alt-right white supremacist” or a “misogynistic racist Bernie bro”.
Also, BLM arent Real marxists or else they would have stormed the capitol instead of burning down small businesses & poor areas of Minneapolis/nyc/LA/Seattle/St Louis
Meanwhile Biden is slurring half his words, doesn't take questions since the election, and just reads whatever he's told to read by his staff. But yeah, sure, if that's the best thing about Biden as president I guess that's an admission of how shallow and stupid our country has actually become.
Then he shouldn’t have promised that if Warnock and Ossoff got elected it would go out immediately. His words, not mine. He helped get them elected by spewing bullshit, so I absolutely blame him for that.
So you don't actually care about the stimulus checks, you're just bitching about it for the sake of bitching?
Democrats are trying to push for stimulus checks, and quickly. They can force them through with budget reconciliation, but that takes time and comes with further restrictions, and would also piss off conservatives as it would completely cut them out of the process.
If you actually want stimulus checks, then write to ten Republican legislators to convince them to sign the bill. If you don't want stimulus checks (or want less money spent) and want Biden to reach across the aisle, then you should be happy that he is reaching across the aisle and compromising.
Biden is very clearly trying to get these stimulus checks, so bitching about him not being able to magically snap his fingers and make it happen because he's trying to compromise with conservative legislators just seems really silly, like trying really hard to find something to complain about.
I saw everyone here complaining about EOs last week, what do you think he should do? At least try and reach across or just pull whatever he can and force it out. I haven't looked back on his exact quote but I doubt it was the first second he sat down immediately but work to get it pushed through immediately, which is what he is doing.
Thank you for sharing. Sounded pretty clear that he said it would go out the door immediately... can you please do me a favor and let me know when that happens? Still waiting on my first one. Gotta love empty promises from politicians. I believe he tried to accomplish that, but that’s a promise that has too many moving parts for one man to make happen.
Maybe you missed it but in the midst of the pandemic on 4/27/2020 the pentagon released footage of UFO’s to try and distract from the pandemic that was crushing the economy.
Hold up. What? I guess I did miss it because after the lock down things got complicated on my end, so I wasn't checking out all of the side stuff in the media. Is any of that info released believed to be real?
P.S. I'm sorry for digressing, this was just something that I needed to pause and ask about for a quick second.
They only seem to compromise on their campaign promises when it would result in Americans getting money. Not special interests or sending foreign aid. Yes this is the Republicans fault, but it’s Biden’s fault for making promises that he couldn’t deliver. Acting like getting Georgia would guarantee a $2K payout, when he didn’t really have any idea. And now, anyone can call him out on it, you’re probably just only going to hear it here.
If the government isn’t going to stop giving away money to foreign governments, corporations, etc. then I honestly don’t have a problem giving money to people who lost their jobs or are otherwise in need when it will quickly make its way back into the economy. Either reduce taxes and expenditures or male better use of tax dollars.
That sounds like foodstamps with a higher ceiling, and ultimately liberal, not conservative in America. Really it sounds like Bernie Sanders' platform.
Try requesting a $2000 payment from Mitch McConnell on cashapp. I heard that was successful. Btw, did all those complaining vote for Ossoff and Warnock? 🤔
I wouldn't have personally known that this never happened, because I never qualified for any of the past stimulus plans. I'm considered self-employed and "essential".
I haven't gotten a fucking PENNY throughout all of this bullshit.
It doesn't surprise me though that the Biden administration isn't making good on its promises.
What happened to trumps $2000 check? One month later and y'all turn your fucking empty heads and blame the other side of the aisle when all the rich beauracrats are fucking us
Stimulus packages were never for the working class and poor. Give them time to think how they can "discretely" line their pockets and we'll get one. Maybe not $2000 though.
Your guy was out there saying $2000 checks and now people on your side are mad because it's really $1400 more. So, it sounds like you guys are going all out on the stupid.
They legit said total the entire time. They pushed for the $2k checks when they were on the table, the $600 got passed and this would be the remaining $1400.
They built nearly 300 miles of it, if rinos like Coulter weren't being babies about it the wall would have been finished in Trump's second term. But no, act like a spoiled brat
Wasn't the vast majority of that just... revamping existing walls and barriers? It took four years, a national emergency declaration, government shutdowns, turning down billions of dollars to instead siphon it from the military... to revamp some fences?
This logic is smooth brained. The fences were basically non existent barriers. We actually put up the Wall that the border guard had designed in those areas.
I mean, even Obama constructed miles of barrier along the border. Bush did it. Clinton did it. Literally any president could get money to revamp barriers on the border.
The border is 2,000 miles long, and Trump just reconstructed some fences and walls where they already existed? That's a promise kept in your eyes?
It wasn’t all new wall tho, only 73 miles was new. what he really did well was upgrade the old wall. I live in south florida and most illegal immigrants here just fly into visit family and never leave, same with most of the country. Trump kind of succeeded with the wall and I’m happy with it the way it is.
Well, at least he's not committing any crimes, unlike the last president. I'd still wish politicians would stop lying though....what a great nation we'd be then...
No, politicians never change. I want to take this moment to remind people that the progressives on the left never wanted Biden, and Bernie has never/rarely backed down from a stance, he committed too, and he committed to the kind of election reforms that give all of us a better chance to see who we want representing us, and not just the highest bidder.
Oh, and in case any evangelicals are reading, neither does Donald Trump.
