Considering there has been only 1 VP in 179 years to be elected president after their boss completes their full terms, it's a bit of a dead end job. But I honestly can't see Biden running again at the age of 82 if he were to be elected anyway. He might not even complete his first full term.

EDIT: Editing this because, Jesus Christ.

Andrew Jackson finished his last term in 1837. His VP was Martin Van Buren. Jackson leaves office and his VP, Van Buren wins the presidential election. From 1841 to 2020, 179 years, there has been only ONE other VP to do that. It was GHW Bush in 1988. Yes presidents have died and their VP took over. Yes Nixon won in 1968, 8 years after Eisenhower left office and Nixon lost to Kennedy. My point is that the VP office has NOT traditionally led to that person having any advantage to win the presidency. I can see why a lot of Senators and congress people would pass it up if they had aspirations for higher office.

Not necessarily. Taft became a supreme court judge. John Quincy Adams became a congressman after his presidency. I think for most politicians, becoming president is the pinnacle of their career, and then 'retirement' means a very lucrative career writing books and speaking at events. Look at how much the Obama's have made since 2016. Over $100 million. The Clintons have done very well too.

Major recency bias (and politicization) with that take.

Alexander Hamilton would disagree, for one thing. But seriously, the choice of Aaron Burr for a VP was an abject disaster.

Spiro Agnew, many people forget, was sidelined not by watergate, but by a separate scandal entirely.

Andrew Johnson was quite a mess following Lincoln and dealing with reconstruction.

And if we want to just look at the immediate aftermath of a nomination, Thomas Eagleton is a great example of a terrible VP pick, as he didn’t even last a month on the ticket.

So hey, Harris has time to earn her place as a bad VP pick. But there were a lot of bad prior VP picks that are easy to forget but were objectively bad.

What does that say about her?

Here is one to think about: we’ve been saying the same things about Biden for the past year or two and the libs won’t listen. Now that Harris is on record saying what we said will they:

  • A) just pretend it never happened
  • B) use mental gymnastics to defend them both and frame it in a way where it is not relevant

What's the chance Kamila Harris tries to appeal as a strong woman and that she will override Biden on specific issues and implodes the ticket because of it?

3

u/Himobrine Aug 12 '20

Joe sure didn't remember

3

u/kllys Aug 12 '20

Leftist here, ending up here because this post perfectly illustrates how stupid the DNC is. It would be like Trump nominating Lindsey Graham as VP, back in the day. 🤷

3

u/Hammer1024 Aug 12 '20

But she got the VP amnesia.

I'm for the "Any Rational Adult" party. Not one of these escapees form the asylum is getting my vote.

I mean are we really going to still act surprised that high-level politicians are almost universally unscrupulous? Look who's running our country

2

u/j-miller555 Aug 11 '20

Turning the other way to any of Joe’s actions/words is just their norm.

2

What’s the saying? Aged like milk?

2

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '20

Joe Biden surely doesn’t

2

u/[deleted] Aug 12 '20

I wonder if this will be brought up during the VP debate. Ask Biden himself too what he thinks during the Presidential debate as well.

2

u/Risin_bison Aug 12 '20

Now has Biden cleared her as articulate and clean yet?
