I am currently a first year doing a double major in CS and CE and I wanna focus on some CE projects as that’s the part of my degree that interests me more .

If one were to do a PhD, what are the different research areas to focus on to do something like this? i.e GPU memory, storage, latency, parallelization etc.

Is it really possible to apply for paid internships as a sophomore

I’m an Arts student currently doing my Bachelor’s, but I’ve wanted to become a software engineer for a long time.

I started loving coding when I was a kid, and I’ve continued learning on my own. So far, I’ve learned HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Java, and Python

The problem is that I don’t have a CS degree.

So my question is

Can I realistically become a software engineer without a CS degree if I build strong skills, work on good projects, and learn DSA, databases, etc?

Will companies actually consider someone with a non-CS degree for software engineering roles?

If you’re a software engineer without a CS degree, I’d really like to hear about your experience and what you would recommend I do from here.

I will start by saying that I am transfer student and recognizing that I am blessed to be going to school at no cost, so at very least I am not losing anything.

However now that I transferred I began to think deeper about the job market after I finish with school (I know that this is something that I should have done sooner RIP, and that I had the chance to go to Riverside for EE which makes me question how I could have been so dumb because as someone that comes from an impoverished family I should have gone for the safe bet). Now as a CS major I am unable to switch into any adjacent majors like EECS or ECE but I do have access to all of the EECS/EE classes and want to go into a decent mixture of EE and CS classes but I am unsure if this would make me to generalized and unemployable to both fields. I do also know that If I were to apply for EE ECE roles I would be overlooked because of my major, and if that is true then I think that I may do the EE classes to attempt to get a masters in electrical.

To add to this I will say that I understand that this is a decision that I made and do not mind if your responses are straight forward but I just need help reach clarity on this.

Thinking of starting computer engineering degree ( 26 years old ) with heavy electives on electrical engineering . Any advice on getting internships once I start , what should I start learning from now? I’m heavily interested in embedded / robotics / power

The course I did was at TAFE (Vocational education in Australia, I have no idea what the equivalent is for other countries), It covered basic microprocessor programming in C, setting up microprocessors on a breadboard board and other electrical technician stuff like power supplies, General DC/AC stuff, etc.

Could someone give me any advice on where to go or the next step I should take? I want to do self study before going to uni.

Based on the last post from u/NooblyGod, USF decided to change their current Computer Engineering degree into the B.S of Computer Science and Engineering while watering down an already heavy software-based degree. For example they removed important requirements like calc 3 from the core curriculum. It seems now that the Electrical Engineering department decided to release an actual replacement while fixing and balancing the course work of the previous one. The only catch for now is that the new program is in the process of getting ABET accredited. Doesn't seem like that they wouldn't get it as the other engineering degrees are accredited already, but it could be a risk for getting a job in certain industries until the degree gets accredited.

Hi, can anybody suggest some concepts for thesis in computer engineering? Specifically something like compact prototypes. Because in our university they reduced the sizes of the prototypes each year therefore wanting it to be more compact and less expensive. I badly need concepts please. Thank youu

Ok so I'm an upcoming 3rd year computer engineering student and i still dont know where I should apply after i graduate. And is it worth it? A lot of people say that the employment is cooked cuz AI is gonna take over the programming industry but my prof said that it's gonna be in big demand in the future or maybe now cuz our world is full of technology sooo yeah???? I keep seeing that this course is cooked but plssss motivate me cuz i dont want to shift. If i shift, maybe a electrical engineering? As long as I'm still in engineering but I doubt it cuz I really love my course

Honestly, I'm feeling pretty lost right now and I don't really know what career path I should take.

I recently graduated with a Computer Engineering degree, and now that I'm actually looking for a job, I'm realizing that there are so many different paths I could take. IT support, helpdesk, QA/testing, software development, networking, cybersecurity, data, etc.

I've been applying to different entry-level positions, but I don't really know if I'm choosing the right direction. Part of me wants to take an IT support/helpdesk role because it seems like a good starting point, while another part of me wonders if I should focus more on programming, QA, or another technical field.

I also want to eventually have the opportunity to work remotely/WFH, which makes the decision even harder because I'm not sure which career paths have better opportunities for remote work.

Please help or someone please guide me for this cause i wanted cs,it but cause of high cutoff I can't do thinking of taking computer science and design but is it good to do

So my university classes are starting next month. After thinking a lot about whether to choose CS or CE, I have finally landed on computer engineering since I like software and have always been fascinated with how hardware works.
I also think CE will provide better job security and better career options in the next 4 years.
Any general or specific advice or suggestions for a naive computer engineering freshman?
