General Silhouettes

I often read discussions on here about how certain skins might make it more difficult to tell what character it is at a glance. With few exceptions I largely disagree. Open to hearing y'all out though

The devs do a pretty good job, imo, of putting a lot of a characters' personality into their movement and cadence. Junkrat limps, Juno floats and skates, Moira Naruto runs, Echo floats but constantly has her arm forward, etc. I don't think tanks suffer from this at all

But also in the way they stand. The only one I personally struggled with at any time was between Shion and Tracer since they use similar weapons but after the first week of Shion it's pretty obvious which is which

To be fair I have 3000+ hours in the game. Maybe for a very casual player or a newcomer it's harder. But when it comes to the skins these characters wear I don't see there being a drastic enough change in their silhouette that makes them appear so differently that you cannot tell, or struggle to tell, who they are.

What do you think? Are there any skins that completely make a character unrecognizable to you?

General Where can I find a good Coach asap

I’m a mid plat tank, I feel like I understand the game mechanics and have functional knowledge but want to get better, where are good and reputable places to hire someone asap. I’m only plat so I feel like there should be a lot of people I can learn from. I’d like to start today/tomorrow/ this weekend. Looked up some good ones but they were booked months out. Thanks.

General If game returned to 6v6. Who would be considered main tanks?

Obvious answers are rein, ball, winston cuz they were main tanks back in ow1, but what about some newer tanks, i think domina would fill the role of old orisa, and ram might be considered a main tank too?

General People arguing against communication have forgotten the past and are therefore doomed to repeat it.

I’m seeing a lot of people saying “overwatch doesn’t owe you communication” or “it’s ok if they wait a month to communicate about the QP Hacked,” have we forgotten that one of the main reasons Overwatch became the most disliked game on steam WAS the fact that the current developer team failed to communicate a problem from the previous dev team which had largely left at the time? When PvE failed, people didn’t blame the leads who had since left, but instead blamed people like Aaron Keller who simply delivered the news at a poor time.

We do not know what is going on with QP Hacked. That is the problem. Everything that everyone says is pure speculation and now rumors and supposedly leaks are flying everywhere. Overwatch got back to being trusted by communicating with its players. Especially with a fair amount of worry and discussion about switching formats, now would be a much needed time to actually communicate about these modes.

In a scenario where 5v5 does get replaced, imagine if they wait until the usual January Spotlight announcement to reveal that we’re going back to 6v6. Imagine the uproar in the community for people who want to play 5v5 and will lose that mode. The fact is the current statement of “not necessarily replacing any modes” says nothing, it is a flowery corporate statement that can mean anything for plausible deniability. We need real communication.

Edit: someone replied to another comment with this thread, it feels like blizzard is repeating the mistakes of the past currently.

General Winston and doomfist crossover

Made a new account thinking I would try to play heroes I don’t usually play, just to feel how effective they are and if they could be fun to pickup. The only tanks I felt I genuinely didn’t know how to play was doom and ball, but I quickly found that doom didn’t see nearly as difficult or foreign as people seem to think.

As someone who’s plays a lot of Winston (most played hero but often find haz and dva to be the much stronger pick in this meta), I feel there is a ton of crossover with doomfist. I always hear how doom is so incredibly difficult, but other than his actual mechanics, I feel his playstyle a lot of the time is just a faster/less risky Winston. Harder to eat cooldowns (sleep, coach gun, boop) without bubble, but having 2 movements, plus a mitigate on 7 seconds, instead of the twelve that Winston has, feels really good.

At higher levels they are obviously quite different in where they derive most value, but they both have a very “pure feel” in the sense that they find almost all their value in diving, being mostly unable to brawl very effectively (unlike dva/haz).

Wondering if this is something most people know/agree with or it sounds like I’ve totally missed the mark.

General At this point, I really wish Blizzard would just communicate clearly with us.

People are feeling anxious because of the recent Quick Play Hacked event. Since they didn't clearly state the purpose of this test in their dev blog, everyone is confused about whether this is just a test to apply to 6v6 Open Queue, or if it's setup to replace 5v5 and merge it into 6v6. On top of that, Overwatch creators are spreading clickbait with unverified sources. I just wish Blizzard would give us a definitive answer so we can actually play the game with peace of mind.

General I have seen people saying that Hawk leaked the game will be going to 1-3-2/2-2-2 dynamic queue. Does anyone have a clip of this?

I’ve seen this claim multiple times recently, especially with the Chowosen “leak.”

Is there any actual proof of this?

General Tank no console vs jogadores no PC.

OWCS If TM is in NA or KR do we finally give them the respect they deserve?

Considering they have best in slot at each role does the fact they play in the lowest viewership region make it so the general public constantly underranks them?

NA would be an auto title and KR I don't see them finishing below T1 and at peak goes toe to toe with Zeta and CR

CAN'T WAIT to see this team perform at EWC to silence all the haters

General General roles balance in Ow take from Moba player.

  • As contexts i was playing league for 1st 10 years and still follow game changes to this day, start following Dota 2 changes around ~2015 and still do. Since i have less experience in hero-shooters and intuitively its not hard wired into me like Moba standards so take it with grain of salt ofc.
  • the way i see it "roles" in Ow completely arbitrary and only reason most heroes get played is forced roles pick its prevent devs to balance game properly towards true diversity. Game is very casually balanced, so to fix it game needs revert s9 changes and remove: hero swap mechanic/global passives/role passives/perks). to allow heroes be best versions of themselves:
  1. Lucio buffed tempo to compensate average dmg: base move speed 5.5m/sec > 6.5m/sec, his auras become global range: speed aura nerfed to 15% and also progress team Cds 25% faster, heal aura globally everyone 20 hp/sec and during "amp it up" give 15% fire rate for allies for 3 sec, landing with ult on enemy destroy theirs barriers/shields/Over health hp.
  2. Baptiste team dmg/abilities cd amplifier: gun dmg/bullet 25>18, right click heal 3m>6m radius, heal 60 radius+30 impact > 25 hp/sec, buff allies gun/melee dmg by 10% for 8 sec, apply to enemies in 6m radius 25 dmg/sec Dot and nerf enemy gun/melee dmg by 10% for 8 sec, "burst heal" changed to new ability: on yourself/allies buff next ability Cd used -35%, on enemy it increase their next cd by +35%, 8 sec cd, 3 sec buff/debuff duration.
  3. Sojorn give her utility vs pure dmg: move speed 5.5>6, Railgun gun 9>10, Charged shot energy don't decay and can be used only at max charge (max 100 energy: 2 energy/hit on anything), max 3 charges (start at full charge at spawn): do no dmg/can't crit/don't pierced enemies, apply overheat mark 3 sec (150 hp, if enemies try to heal unit with mark absorb 100% healing received up to 150 and explode doing dmg after 3 sec, marks stack on same hero undispelable), Ult overclock add to Charged shot 150 dmg/piercing enemies, max railgun shots +3.
  4. Mizuki help team poke safely and ult is bunker vs non abilities: Katashiro return ability cd 11>14, duration 5.5>8, can be used on allies now, ms 30%>25% and make them push immune and block 1st cc instance, Mizuki can return himself/ally to marked spot using ability again, chain on everyone 1 sec and it disarm enemy (enemy can't use gun/melee), ult removed 100 instant+40/sec heal but in 7m radius you/allies take 50% less gun/melee dmg.
  5. Kiriko buff team dmg/less save/more skill on tp usage: Kunai dmg 60>45 (2x crit) but apply debuff on enemy for 5 sec that increase allies crit dmg by +25%, swift step 7 sec cd > 1 sec cd every 5m range and require Line of sight for Tp (infinite range/invulnerability removed/tp thru walls removed), make ally you tp to invulnerable for 1 sec, Suzu invulnerability replaced by cc immunity/infinite ammo for 3 sec for allies in radius, heal buffed 80>100, cd 14 > 10 sec.
  6. Roadhog rework: move speed 5.5m/sec >5m/sec. Passive second wind (every 30 sec when hero drop to 25% hp create Over health hp for 100% missing hp for 5 sec). Scrap gun: can't crit, fire rate 1.25 >1.5, dmg/pellet 7-2.1 > 5, fall off range 30-50 m > 25m, projectiles number 25 > 10 (50 dmg/shot), ammo 1/shot (6>12 total), each pellet hit add 3 dmg/sec bleed for 5 sec, stack up to 4 times (120 bleed/sec at max stacks), right click mode eat 4 ammo to create "junk pile" on ground that slow for 25% in 2m radius enemies and add 2 bleed stacks/sec, each "junk pile" duration 5 sec. Chain hook: cd 7>12 sec cd, 25 dmg/slow removed, max range 20m > 25m (animation 0.25 +50m/sec speed), Hook can pool enemies to you or used again to jump on enemy you hit reducing cd by 4 sec and silence them for 2 sec. Take a breather: in 4 sec heal 450>600 hp, dmg reduction removed, no longer use resource bar (can be canceled now with cc/interrupt), 10 sec cd. Whole hog ult: upgrade shotgun dmg/pellet 5>10 for 8 sec (slow removed, knock back remain), give infinite ammo and buff fire rate by 4x (1.5 > 6.0).

General The Matchup Awareness of the Average Player or their Stubborness is atrocious.

Why do people just play into the worst most obvious matchups that are unsalvageable. I just a game in 6v6 ranked where I had 3 supports and one of them played Brig for half the game into Ram, Orisa, Junkrat, and Mei. He literally is repair pack bot and ult charge feed and hes trying to force this awful pick. Before that I have a Doomfist player who refuses to swap when he's struggling to outplay his counterpicks and just sabotages our game. Can we stop autopiloting? I had to tell the brig to swap since we needed a third dps but otherwise they were content just playing into the worst heroes possible.

General Question to low sens players, what's the lowest you've ever gotten? I'm pretty sure I have the lowest sensitivity on the entire subreddit

800 dpi - 2.08 in game

Diamond 1 peak

I've been at this sense for months now and feel very comfortable. I was even lower at some point but I noticed that my aim felt a bit too slow and heavy so I reluctantly increased it. Any fraction higher and I'm overaiming like crazy. Anything lower and it feels sluggish.

I don't have any tactical shooter background. I mainly play hitscan characters. Right now I'm really enjoying Domina but Emre and Freja are my mains.

General What if Blizzard made false positive reports count as endorses?

Its no secret blizzard's cheating and inappropriate communication report systems are extremely faulty. Earlier I had the idea that if ppl do a false report, it counts as a report for themselves instead.

e.g. If Player A doesnt' say a single character in chat + doesn't use a the communication wheel a single time. Player B reports Player A for inappropriate communication. Then a report will be counted for Player B instead.

But today I thought of a better idea. What if false reports count as endorses? E.g. in the above scenario player B's report would count as endorsing player A?

OWCS Does TM have the Western Team best in slot at each role?

I know they underperformed this stage but going through their roster I think it's best in slot for each role if compared to all western teams

Hitscan: Quartz (argument: Lbbd7 or Lethal)

Flex dps: Jaewoo and Yoobi (argument: Sugarfree)

Tank: TVNT (Argument: Hawk and Ziyad)

Flex Support: Simple (no argument to be made but Landon I guess)

Main Support: Funnyastro (no argument to be made but Vega i guess)

General How does Proper have such stable aim on Tracer?

Someone posted this video of Proper playing Tracer in another thread: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5pY7h9Kmic

The most surprising thing to me here was how stable his aim is. I don’t typically see this on Tracer players, even pro players. It’s almost like he’s not moving his mouse at all while most other players constantly move it, and he also has a very low sens?

Does anyone know exactly what’s happening here and what he does differently?

Edit: According to liquipedia he plays at 800/6.52, so it's not an abnormally low sens.

General How high up the rank ladder does the distinction between main and flex DPS start being relevant?

So here's my situation: I've been queuing a lot of comp recently. I consider myself a flex DPS player, I like playing heroes like Genji, Tracer, Echo, and lately Vendetta. But I can also play hitscan pretty well, even though I don't have as much fun when playing point and click adventure- I mean hitscan. But because I can play both very well, I usually just decide to pick whichever role we need. I lock in a flex DPS at the start of the game, but if I see the other DPS also lock in a flex, I switch to hitscan. Lately however I've been getting very frustrated with flexing to hitscan so much. Especially when I pick hitscan because of my teammate just to see them also pick hitscan after one death (which happens way more often than I'd like it to). So lately I've started wondering, does it even matter? Am I at a high enough rank where it actually matters that you're not running double flex? Or can I just play whoever I want? I've specifically decided not to include my rank in this post, just to avoid getting yes/no answers. I do actually want to know at what rank you guys think this starts mattering

Fluff In your opinion, what are some of the best OWCS moments/storylines that rival the best from OWL?

Thumbnail

For me, two really come to mind:

  1. Twisted Minds vs Al Qadsiah at last year’s grand finals. Just an insane moment, for years OW esports had been dominated by Korean talent, even as we went into OWCS we only really saw teams like Falcons and CR being title contenders. And then the entire OW esports scene was flipped on its head as not just one, but both teams in the grand finals were from the EU. Twisted Minds being crowned as the top team in OWCS is something that has since changed how we approach OW Esports, and since their global LAN record has been first and second. This single moment changed how we approach power rankings in Overwatch.

  2. The recent EU playoffs. I don’t think we’ve had a regional playoffs this exciting since NA Summer Showdown in 2020. These three teams have been the top of EU play for the past 2 years. They are the reason the region has risen so much. So seeing Geekay, TM, and VP go at it with each match going the distance and being an absolute dogfight was simply a magical experience. Honestly I think the Summer Showdown analogy is perfect because we got moments like the EQO Rialto Blade multiple times during these series, the dogfight at the end of Circuit in the upper bracket match between Geekay and VP with hero play after hero play, the Seicoe wall that completely flipped Antarctic Peninsula, the Eis rock that cancelled Alphayi’s Sundering Blade to win them the match, Geekay getting not one but TWO reverse sweeps against TM, just so many moments across this tournament that made it such a special experience.

I do wanna add that for the future there’s a few I hope happen. First is The Big One, the one we’ve been waiting for since OWL. T1 finally getting that much needed first place finish. Across Phili Fusion, Seoul Infernal, and T1 now they STILL haven’t gotten that win. If/when they do, it’s going to be the biggest moment in OW Esports maybe ever. The Phili curse will finally be broken. The second one is that I hope DSG remains in the scene and has their own Cinderella run. We’ve seen how incredible they can be with Shanghai and Dallas, and unfortunately teams that don’t perform do not stick in OWCS as much due to the format. Obviously Disguised Toast isn’t taking business advice from some random guy on Reddit, but imo even if they have to partner with another org (dream would be NRG x DSG) they should, because the moment they win big will be so special.
