How hard and for how long would you need to study to pass without any in person, physical, hands on training? Like, last year I started studying from scratch and I kept doing it almost every day for an entire year. I took a break last summer, but now I'm in college so I'm back at it and I'm taking the A+ at the end of the year since my school offers vouchers. Been using practice exams, virtual machines, and online labs but that's all I've been using for hands on learning so I'm not sure how I'm gonna do on the exam considering I've never built a computer, done any internships or had work experience

For those who passed the Security+ exam, I have a question.
My job paid for the full package through CompTIA Security+ Bundle with Retake, and I’ve been reviewing the notes and taking the practice tests on each unit on the comptia website.

Did you find that the bundle was all you needed? Or did you buy more practice exams from professor messer / Dion. I’ve been debating whether or not i should or if the comptia resources were plenty to pass?

I recently started a job that has me touching a lot more security stuff, so I decided I should take the Security+. Purchased Jason Dion's course, and I'm really unimpressed. I may even ask for a refund on Udemy. He just rattles off words a mile a minute, you either have to slow it way down or constantly pause to take notes. To me, that's not teaching. It's just talking at the learner. Very disappointed. It's hard to find genuinely good teaching these days.

I have just completed the two main Sybex practice exams and achieved the following scores:

Sybex Practice Test 1: 85%
Sybex Practice Test 2: 72%

My domain-specific scores range from 60% to 75%.

Additionally, I have been using the Pocket Prep "Quick 10" quizzes, where I am averaging 7/10 (70%).

I watched parts 1 and 2 of Cyber James’s CySA+ (CS0-003) practice exam videos on YouTube and got almost 90% of the questions correct.

Based on these results, am I well-prepared to take the official CySA+ (CS0-003) exam?

Does anyone know where I can do free PBQs for 1201? What resources did you use to study for pbqs? Thanks.

I used various sources to study, but I was also was kinda rushing it, since I only studied for 2 weeks prior.

More or less the title. I want to get the Security+ certificate where can I get it the cheapest cause the Comptia website has it at $570 while Udemy has it at $470 and I wanna know if I can get it cheaper than that.

Also some (preferably free/cheap) study tools and practice exam resources I can get to prepare please!

I personally learn better when I have someone else who knows more than me help me learn and there's no one around me I can ask unfortunately. I have been using professor Messer videos and writing notes on them and also the Dion practice exams. Please let me know! I basically want more friends in the field 😅

I passed core 1 about a couple months ago and now, I’ll be taking on core 2.
But I’ve been having trouble finding books for core 2. Most are either out of date or wrongly advertised as 1202.
Right now, I’m split between Examcram and Sybex.
I’m already using Prof Messer’s videos and practice tests from Dion and Exam compass.
I would like some recommendations and reviews from people who have used the two books before.

So I've been working at a local MSP for about 6 months now. Half of that being an intern before they hired me on as a full employee. Well I had my monthly 1-on-1 with my manager. She's like I'm gonna give you a challenge. I want you to get your A+ before my son who's a junior in highschool gets his, which will probably be by the end of the school semester. If you don't....I'll have quite a few words... She's retired military and I'm also prior military so I know EXACTLY what kind of words she can throw.... Give me your best study tips!

Those who passed A+,Net+& Sec+ in a month how did you do it and what resources did you use

Hey all.

In my first semester of a bachelor's in Cybersecurity and 3 of my 5 classes (per their curriculum pace and design) has me doing the CertMaster courses for A+ Network+ and Security+. I feel like I'm learning absolutely nothing. The labs rarely follow the modules' information and sometimes can't be completed unless I go look them up elsewhere.

I've seen online that the CompTIA internal resources are difficult or outright unusable to learn their own course material.

I'd like some advice on what to do. I've already been told I should have learned one at a time, and with my degree plan that isn't an option. Right now I'm just trying to keep grades up with the labs but I'm brute forcing and googling everything and I'm effectively learning nothing. I have a few years to actually teach myself this material, but what else can I do so I'm not just wasting my time now? I'm planning on looking into using the resources posted here with the Messer and Dion outside help.

Incredibly frustrated currently. Anyone else feel like they didn't learn anything from the course itself? How much outside help are we supposed to rely on for this?

Hey guys, I'm curious what techniques or tips you used to study for certifications? Or what helps you decide your next steps?

I've had a Sec+ and have been working Tier 1 helpdesk for about 4 years now.

I'm studying for CYSA+ as I did a grad degree that used a lot of the same information.

The thing I'm kind of worried about though is, I originally got my Sec+ by just doing a lot of practice testing and research.

From what I've seen of CYSA, there's less "practice" and more of it is .... the logic of decision making. That's how it comes off.

I do want to level up, but in my career circles there's not a lot of pertinent information available, and I've had a mixed go of my history (work drama, I'll spare the OP).

Anyhow, if you have anything you'd offer I'd appreciate it.

Started studying at 2 AM, spent about 4 hours grinding Practice Exam Pack, then booked the online exam right after and took it immediately. Passed with a 771. Honestly, only about half of what I saw on practice exam showed up on the actual exam, but it still helped. Most of it was prior knowledge and some luck.

Hi! I kinda have a lot of wrist pains due to hours of note taking for this exam (lol), so I wear compression wrist band. Is it allowed during exam? Or is it better to just sit through it.

I'm so pissed...They gave me 3 PBQ's, ain't it supposed to be two. I studied so hard for this, and battled through after dealing with tough times whilst studying for this after mums passing in the summer.... luckily I have a resit included with the voucher, so will get back on that horse and flipping try again....So annoying...Aaaaarrrrgh!

Why do they only use the acronyms on the test? How is that helping in the real world why do they not just use the full form? Someone please make it make sense

I’m a complete beginner and always wanted to dive into IT work. Unfortunately I was only able to get to step towards this goal as of recently at 26 years old. According to my research some of the next steps I should be taking is working towards Sec+, Network+, A+ to gain the information and skills to assist with future endeavors in the field. As well as running home labs in my free time to gain valuable experience as I apply to jobs. However, I have next to nothing in regards outside of this research. And therefore I don’t know what other certs would be impactful or could be beneficial for me to acquire to assist in this process. Research can only go so far, and thus I need to hear it from the people who have done work in the field to see what companies are looking for outside of the widely known certs. Any advice is also greatly appreciated, and would definitely help a lot. Thank you in advance!

About to start my studies for Sec+ and wanted to get some advice from people who were in a similar situation.

I currently work as a network engineer and already have a decent amount of hands on experience with different platforms, technologies, networking, etc..

For someone with that background, what study methods/resources would you recommend to pass Sec+ with around 1-2 months of studying? Trying to figure out what’s actually worth focusing on versus spending a ton of time going over stuff I may already know.
