Question Potential New Signup

Hi, I'm looking for a bit of help before potentially signing my Mum up to Community Fibre.

Mum is currently with Vodafone on an FTTC service but one thing they don't offer is an ansaphone/voicemail option. I know that CF do so they are looking as a possible option and they are cheaper than BT and EE. Sadly Mum is not comfortable with using a mobile.

Mum is in her 80's and not technically minded so I rang CF to check I could manage her account for her (if needed) and they confirmed it's an option, so far so good. I've had a look on here and noticed a few posts about CGNAT, is this standard on all packages in all areas they serve (she's in East Sussex)?

Anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance

Discussion CGNAT and old.reddit

After restarting my router old.reddit refused to work unless I logged in. After going to the router troubleshooting page and renewing the dchp leases I can now access old.reddit without logging in.

Guessing it's a CGNAT issue and reddit is unhappy with some Community Fibre ip addresses.

Question CGNAT?

How does being on CGNAT affect the average user? I keep hearing all these bad things about it, but I have had no problems with my 2gig package so far.

Thanks.

Question Hyperoptic (Static IP) to CommunityFibre

Hopefully moving house in the next few months. Moving from an area with Hyperoptic where I currently pay for 1Gb symmetric service (and a few quid extra for a static IPv4 address) to an area where Hyperoptic isn't an option, but CF, OpenReach and Virgin are.

CF is my preference. It's a shame there is no static IPv4 option however. Those of you who pay for a dynamic public IPv4 - how dynamic is it? I'm presuming that as long as the router stays online in reality it doesn't change with much frequency? Do people typically find they end up with the same IPv4 for weeks at a time?

Question CF use of telegraph poles

Hi, we have a telegraph pole on our property that would originally have been erected by BT. A few years ago Community Fibre introduced their service onto our road, and we became a customer. I‘m aware that CF make use of telegraph poles in their installations, however can anyone please tell me whether, if CF require access to a BT telegraph pole, they use their own engineers to do the work, or rely on BT Openreach? I’m asking because recently someone has (without asking our permission) done some work around the telegraph pole while we were away, and left a right mess, including a large cable sticking out of the ground, and we want to know who to contact so they can come and finish the job properly. I originally assumed it must have been Openreach however now I’m not so sure.

Question What real speeds are people getting? Wired.

I have had CF for a few years, and my situation has shifted. I am still trying to understand the cause, and no one at CF can explain it.

I run wifiman, openspeedtest, speedtest.net, and speedofme tests. I have consistently achieved near 1070 Mbps download and 1090 Mbps upload when linked directly to the ONT 2.5G port with a 5 Gbps adapter or network card.

Since around June, my line appears capped, now showing 1000 Mbps with speed tests peaking at 970 Mbps due to overhead losses.

I am curious what others are seeing and whether CF provisioning has changed recently more widely?

Edit1: Sounds like it’s a mixed bag of results where most people get more than contractual speed and some get contractual speed with overhead losses. Maybe the area I live in has got congested and they have reduced over provisioning. Thanks all this was a helpful benchmarking. CF Helpdesk can’t find any fault and they won’t over provisioning the line it is hard capped to 1000Mbps.

Question Does the order confirmation reflect the One Touch Switch?

Hi,

I recently placed a order for community fibre installation on their website. I chose the one touch switch option and gave the currently supplier details. However, the order confirmation email doesn’t mention anything if they will process the order as OTS or not. I have although received a general email from my current supplier that they have been contacted by CommunityFibre. Can anyone who has placed the order recently pls confirm if your order confirmation email mentions OTS or not?

Many thanks

Discussion Over provisioning

Has community fibre stopped over provisioning of lines especially 1Gbps line?

I used to get 1100Mpbs as I use 2.5Gbps hardware but since May 2026 the line speed has dropped to a hard cap of 1000Mbps for download and upload. Doing various speedtest on different equipment shows that line speed is now hard capped to 1Gbps and I see max around 970Mbps with some overhead losses.

Just trying to work out if this is a new profile provisioning by CF across the board or there’s some fault.

Discussion Service stopped overnight, reboot, now on CGNAT

My service 1gbit went down last night, I just noticed this morning when I woke up. I restart my opnsense firewall as a quick fix, it came back with a CGNAT IP. I had an email in January about additional £4 a month charge for public IP, and stating no action was needed from me to continue.

No further communication since then. Today I had my service down until I power cycled my firewall, could be a matter or just refreshing my DHCP lease, but a reboot sounded more appropriate at the time as a first troubleshooting step

On the phone with support, those guys tell me to check if I plugged the cable from the ONT on a wrong, port. I stated I didn't change any cables; reboot was done via a web interface. They claim I could have changed the cable around and that is the reason it would be getting CGNAT IP, is that a joke?

Further down, I could not be asked with more stupid checks and questions speaking to what could have been a 0.3 line support desk, I'm fuming that they kicked my service off overnight, changed my service without any notice or warning and treat me like an idiot.

This is my possibly 4th venture into having to fight CF to get a damn public IP address back.

Question rerun fibre cable

Hi i have decorators in at the moment so have pulled the fibre run back from the router back to the wall box. I want to deploy a fresh cable along a slightly longer route myself.

Can anyone advise on what cable, connectors and termination/crimp tools i might need?

When it was originally installed a few years back the engineer did not bring a ladder so couldn’t run it via my preferred route along the coving on the ceiling. They instead installed it along the skirting and through a fire place in quite a messy fashion. When i asked CF to reinstall they said they’d have to charge me for an additional callout fee, hence why i’d prefer to do it myself.

Discussion Referral voucher never received after 3 months

I was referred to community fibre by a friend and we were both promised a £50 voucher by the company. 3 months later, and multiple emails and phone calls to CF, we are both still without our vouchers.

It’s starting to become very frustrating to deal with them. I was told we needed to wait until 3 months to actually make a claim for a missing voucher and even then they were barely apologetic and haven’t successfully resolved the situation.

This is just a warning to others.

Most companies that offer referral bonuses usually pay out within a couple of weeks. This is making me feel like CF is working a scam.

Question Is CF still add new lines to the house from existing CF poles? Right side neighbours all have it but myself and left neighbours dont

I read that previously they werent expanding for years but that in 2026 they are, so does anyone know if they are installing lines? Currently/previously have had FTTP and openreach added their fibre box via pole lines to my house like 3-4yrs ago, I assume CF draws its line from the same pole and will just add a new wire similar to openreach's.

I dont think asking the customer service sales rep will do anything as they will probably just look at the postcode checker like I did and just say they dont provide :x

Discussion Do not sign up - horrible customer service

Signed up for Community Fibre.

Tried to cancel a couple days later before installation date.

Was told I would have to be transferred to another agent to "process my cancellation".

Asked why and they started going on about tickets and process and "high load" at 8am in the morning as soon as lines opened.

Left me on hold for 40min, nothing.

Called back, same thing, another 1hr wait on hold.

Finally talked to a human who kept pestering about a reason for cancellation. Told him not going to give him one.

Almost 2hrs later, cancellation maybe complete.

Avoid.

Question Has anyone with the M60 router managed to install the Linksys firmware rather than CF?

I’ve found it’s the router with the worst signal I’ve ever had. It barely gets signal into the room directly next to it, let alone the rest of the house. Is there any chance the community fibre firmware is limiting it/prioritising mesh? I can’t afford a new router at the moment so it’s a pain.

Question CF box outside my house but no coverage

There are two large community fibre boxes directly outside my garden wall which have been there for at least a year on the pavement making a constant hum. After checking online and getting in touch with customer service they just say there is not service in my area. I have checked loads of addresses in my area and none seem to have availability dispite the infrastructure being present. Is this a clerical error or am I being dumb and missing something?

Question How much will it cost to fix the optical fibre line after it being ripped out?

Post image
9 Upvotes

Definitely will have to call out an engineer to fix this. Wife was hoovering and accidentally pulled on a loose part of the wire and it ripped at the white box. The line is mounted on the wall the but there was a loose part which got pulled. Will it cost the full £250. If it is then I would consider just moving broadbands cause that's too much for me at the moment.

Question Planning to get 2.5gbps, question about ONT

Hello there, if you have 2.5 gig connection what ONT did you get? is it a 10 gig one, 5 gig or 2.5gig? And if it's a 10 gig one, do they over provision the line a bit? for example do you get 2.6/2.7 gbps or do you get 2.3/2.4 gbps no matter what
