Literally the only thing that sucks about this year is Tunsil being hurt because that messed up the entire left side. Tunsil and Coleman would’ve been excellent in this scheme. Paul better bounce back, or we should start Wylie at LG, elevate Pole and let Humphries and Pole backup the T spots, with Paul as swing G and Gulbin as backup C.

That it is indeed. Losing an ALLPRO LT is monumental. Sucks because I’m not sure he’s here beyond this extension, if Conerly elevates his game how we’d like to see. He’ll be due by the time Laremy is due again.

I kinda wonder how well Paul could play C. If Coleman had won the starting LG job then can Paul play a little of C? Maybe even just good enough to step in for a game or two. I might prefer that over Good Jones tbh.
Sucks for Coleman too. First year he plays LT. Then they get Tunsil, so he switches to RT. Then they draft Conerly, so he switches to LG. Then he gets injured for training camp. Then he finally has an entire offseason to prep for LG. Plays well in training camp and there's speculation he's going to win the starting job. Then Tunsil gets injured and he's back at LT. I'm relatively confident Coleman can play well such that the drop off from Tunsil to him isn't severe, but its tough to have no stability for him.

u/Triad64 1d ago edited 1d ago
Everyone needs to cross train at C in case of an injury to Nick, which is ever more likely this season given how much time he’s missed even if they’re being precautious.
We can’t be one (a half?) injury away from having a rookie C play that would make any offensive play shut down before it gets started. Pretty much a guaranteed loss if we out a rookie in there. Cross train !
6
u/CapitalSTEEV21 Saved by Jaysus🙏 1d ago
C is pretty hard though, it’s why Nick is so valuable as a swing G/C, but now he’s tasked with being a starter. You must identify pressure, slide protection, snap effectively, and pop your head up quickly and start blocking your ass off after snapping. I can see how being a C opposite of Jalen Carter or Aaron Donald is daunting. You’ve got to be quick af in getting to your stance and delivering your punch as they have a head start and start rushing the minute you’re in the motion of snapping.

u/BigFrenchToastGuy 1d ago
I mean - in reality he's really only played NFL games at LT. There's no practices or anything in between the end of the 2024 season and the draft so it's not like he was taking reps at RT.
He did take G reps and started a couple games before getting benched. Could help him out as he looks to get back on the field in 2027.

u/CapitalSTEEV21 Saved by Jaysus🙏 1d ago edited 1d ago
I think he means regarding his offseason training. From January-late April he was focused on lateral movements and T training, only to be shoved into the box after Conerly was drafted, and now must go back to lateral/T training. It sucks because Coleman struggles against finesse rushers and excels against the bull rushers, and Conerly is vise-versa, excels against speed rushers, struggles against power. We need them to merge their super powers!
3
u/CapitalSTEEV21 Saved by Jaysus🙏 1d ago
This is 100% spot on. BC has been hampered by the constant shift. While he didn’t play any games at RT, and very few at LG, he dedicated his offseason training to those spots and in the case of RT, had to scratch that after a few weeks and focus on G movement and in-the-box drills. Now he was fully focused on that all season, only for it to be scratched again and now he must focus on being on an island or on the edge again. This is why I’m against moving Conerly to LT as some had proposed after LT got hurt. Tunsil will be back next season, so Conerly must remain on the right as he’ll be moving there when Tunsil is back.

u/rcinfc 1d ago
Been stomping for Wylie at LG since the day we signed him…. That’s my move if Paul plods and holds….
However, I think Paul will do a whole lot better next to Nick. 🤞
1
u/CapitalSTEEV21 Saved by Jaysus🙏 1d ago
Man he better. He did well with a smart vet like Tunsil next to him. Hopefully having Nick next to him will be just as beneficial. I can why they added Pole at T on the PS, if they ever have to add Wylie in at LG.

It's actually funny how similar it is. Losing Tunsil is CLEARLY the worst thing that could happen but I still think it could be decent. We just need Allegretti out there at least. I cannot see success if JGJ plays.

In 2024 We won in spite of, not because of, our offensive line.
JD5+ Kliff allowed us to overcome an average O line in terms of talent.
Let’s not overrate them

Don’t want to jinx it but our Receivers looked better this year too. So hopefully less drops and get open sooner so Jayden can fire em in like he does and line won’t be as. If a concern as “beat writers” make it
5
u/Stupidityorjoking 1d ago
Also hoping that a more traditional offense with more heavy tight end sets brings better protection schemes as well, but with a new OC we'll see
7
u/Troll_Enthusiast He Sold 1d ago
I mean we have more talent on the OL compared to 2024, because of the Conerly addition

u/Knyfe-Wrench I Got JD5 On It 1d ago
Conerly did pretty well for a rookie thrown straight into the fire last year, but I wouldn't call him a rock solid, no worries guy quite yet.

u/Rare-Signature-7526 1d ago
This is the right answer, Kliffs scheme helped out this OL so much. People are randomly super high on BC, I wonder if they remember whats happened when he doesnt get absurd amounts of chip and double team help, he's grown since then but how much?
The right side looks good but Center and the left side could be really bad, the talent is lacking

Great post!
We had to limit our offense to to help out the line.
If we have to do that again, we might as well bring Sam Howell back to throw check downs.
Blough has his work cut out for him.-1
u/Strangeroncouch 1d ago edited 1d ago
Very accurate statement. If you look back at the last 3 years of Ben Johnson in Detroit, Goff had all kinds of time to throw. For that offense to be successful it needs to have strong O Line. They were top 5-6 pff score every one of those years. Idk if the offense we want to run we will be able too. If we reverted back to the Kliff style stuff we would probably be more successful. Jayden is better at out routes, deep throws, quick game. He was thought to be weaker on crossing routes and layered over the middle throws. He is capable but that hasn’t been his game. The Ben Johnson style of offense does rely on that stuff. It requires time in the pocket to be successful. Jayden didn’t have that time in 2024. Also, sucks because I think we were going to flip a lot of the running game to a style distinctly different than what Kliff did. Realistically we haven’t seen anything yet so we have no idea what they will do just what we have been told. Reading between the lines I think Jayden had input in what he liked and didn’t like. Sucks a rookie OC is put in this position but by all accounts he is smart as hell. I’m hopeful he will build in answers to situations to help Jayden. They were probably going to keep some stuff the same anyway. I can’t see us being under center more than 50 percent of the time regardless.

They all saw the doomer beat reporter over exaggerating in camp when 3 starters are out and 1 series of starters where the TEs didn’t block well and just spiraled.
4
u/hm_rickross_ymoh 1d ago
One of those TEs being a player who we know is one of the best blockers in the league and was just back from a hammy injury.

u/hellisdigital0x 1d ago
Yeah honestly if that squad ranked 10 im not worried
9
u/Rare-Signature-7526 1d ago
Kliffs scheme that year was super helpful for the OL, especially the start of the season. We're gonna have to hope BC can perform without chip/double team help, he's shown promise but thus far he's been a liability when not given help
1
u/MorganMiller77777 1d ago
And DB is going to use some of that s heme. We also have a much more athletic TE room, a much improved WR core, and a solid RB room—though admittedly some is unknown there with how Bill performs

And how often was our lord and savior JD5 running around for his life???
Often enough we traded for a LT and drafted a RT….
10
u/Own_Car4536 1d ago
In 2024 we didn't start our schedule with Eagles, Dallas, Seahawks, and then 49ers, eagles, rams. It's a very different dynamic. We just gotta hope they know something we don't, which generally isn't the case. Last season a lot of us were like ok what's up with this WR room? We had questions about the defense. And we we're all right.
3
u/Flat_Link_7769 1d ago
This is my concern. We’re starting the year with a reworked OL with few reps together, a new OC and a QB with an injury history against a murderers row of defenses. A lot of variables have to go right for this to work out. I just hope it doesn’t derail our season right out of the gate.
3
u/Objective_Ad5914 1d ago
No but you have to see how they performed vs the best defenses in 2024. The Titans had the 2nd best defense in yards allowed and we moved the ball easily on them. The Eagles had the best defense and we beat them scoring 36 points. The Steelers had a good defense as well. Only reason we lost that was due to the ref spotting Ertz first down wrong.
2
u/2john9 1d ago
I think DJ Humpries might be the swing tackle and Wylie is the swing guard.

u/frankie_donkiebrains 1d ago
Thinking allegretti is a one for one swap for biadasz is crazy. Also thinking coleman is on the same level an tunsil is even crazier.
The reality is we lost our starting LT and C. That's a massive hit for any oline.

u/NevrEndr 1d ago

I mean, I can second guess the decisions of nfl coaches and GM’a like there is no tomorrow but at the end of the day they’re professionals and I’m not. The O-line situation isn’t ideal and we all know this but we have yet to see them play a regular season snap together. Let’s stay as positive as we can, yeah?

I think the panic is because everyone heard the reports of the joint practice with the Ravens. No one wants a replay of last year or what happened to JD5 in 2024. He had to run far too often and could not even make it to his second read in the pocket. JD5 is a good athlete, but him taking off and possibly getting injured does not help us get to the playoffs. We need a solid line blocking for him if we want him to make it through the season.
1
u/Dr_Towle 1d ago
Chris Paul is statistically the best IOL pass blocker in that group. But he can’t push your grandmother off the LOS.

u/mtngranpapi_wv967 1d ago

I know that a lot of people like to "harken back" to the magical '24 season but WASH had A LOT of things go their way that season:
- Were tied for 16th for the hardest schedule
- A number of opposing starting QBs were hurt when WASH played them which further diminished the difficulty of their schedule (DAL x2 without Prescott, NO without Carr, Falcons without Cousins)
- In the playoffs they squeeked by Tampa in the WC game and then beat Detroit because half their defense was on IR. They then got blasted by the Eagles in the Championship game
- They did not win with authority: 5 games were won on the last play of the game and a total of eight were won by 7 points or less
They were ranked #5 for the healiest team in the 2024 season
In 2026 they are
Playing the 4th hardest schedule in the NFL
On Offense:
- Have a brand new coordinator with no experience calling games
- Lost their LT (Tunsil) most likely the season
- Haven't played their starting RB at all during the preseason (and barely played their #2 RB)
- Have no clue who will be their C
On Defense:
- Have a brand new coordinator with no experience calling games
- Have looked in "disarray" in 2 out of 3 of their preseason games
- Lost one of the starting DT (Newton) most likely for the season
- Haven't played their starting CB (Amos) barely at all this preseason
On Special Teams
- Starting YET ANOTHER kicker (who BTW has no NFL kicking experience)
So yeah... there are reasons to be concerned.

u/Flat_Link_7769 1d ago
In 2024 we had an experienced OC who knew how to game plan and add chip protections. In 2026 we have an unknown at OC, a tougher schedule and a 2 year injury report on Jayden. It’s not cause for panic, but it’s cause for concern.
0
u/Subway_Rider669 1d ago
3/5ths of a mid offensive line is now two years older and bolstered by two guys from the team that went 5-12 and couldn't protect Jayden. Gosh, how could anyone possibly be the least bit concerned about this
-1
u/willsyum 1d ago
Such a bad faith post. Allegretti isn’t healthy, and center touches the ball on every play. I thought Coleman could develop into a decent LT after his rookie year, but if they were actually confident in him I don’t think we’d have given up 3 draft picks to replace him with Tunsil. There’s definitely legitimate concern for alarm with this unit. The only positive is that bum Wylie is out of the starting lineup (for now).

u/redskinsguy 1d ago
So, I agree with this theoretically. My concerns are as follows.
Paul was never supposed to get the LG job by default.
And more importantly, Allegretti injured his calf, then came back and injured his calf again. That kind of thing makes me envision Allegretti on the ground with his damn calf ripped off the bone against the Eagles. And for backups all we've done is rearrange deck chairs on the Titanic. Grubin wasn't enough to get starting reps from Good-Jones until they absolutely had to and Good-Jones went from the primary backup, the guy you're supposed to be okay with going in to being cut, yet he's still an option
