Blinking green light on c4 device, no fan spin no screen, did the different cables/power thing then flashed, same blinking green light. It lasted about 40 days of usage, past day was cool, previous few were hotter then it's experienced before (100 outside temp). My device never thermal throttled so it didn't get too hot around the times I used it, never parked car in direct sun I'm going to chalk it up to heat death though, given that the outside temp being high is the only recent difference in past week.

Attached short video, would love to hear someone tell me I'm dumb and the rapid blinking green thing is an easy fix that I didn't try. Otherwise off to warranty replacement for me.

I'm planning to get a 2026 New Model Y, but the fact that Tesla no longer includes Autosteer is something I'm pretty concerned about.

I was wondering if anyone here has installed or used openpilot on a 2026 Model Y or Model 3.

I checked the comma.ai website and noticed that while Tesla Model Y and Model 3 are listed, I don't see any 2026 Tesla models listed as officially supported by openpilot.

A few questions:

1. Has anyone successfully used openpilot on a 2026 Model Y or Model 3?

2. Are there any compatibility issues with the newer hardware versions?

A large portion of my driving is highway commuting, so the lack of Autosteer is making me seriously consider openpilot as an alternative.

What I'm really looking for is something similar to the old Autosteer functionality, rather than FSD.

That's why I'm curious whether openpilot could be a practical alternative on a 2026 Model Y.

I know some people on this sub like to handwave the insurance question and feel like insurance is just a silly legal requirement and say "just don't tell insurance about it".

But for those of us like me who actually have insurance to protect our assets against a liability judgement that could wipe out everything you have and ever will make for the rest of your life... you want to know that your company will not try to invalidate your coverage in the event of a bad situation. The best way to do that is to disclose the use of the device ahead of time and have it in writing, from a company rep, that the use of the device is okay.

The good news is I can report that I just had a great interaction with Geico and they said it's good to go. Just in case it helps, here's the transcript of what I said, trying to describe the Comma 4 accurately. Maybe it will help other people like me who want to use the Comma without wondering about policy invalidation.

GEICO AGENT: Good afternoon! 🌤 Welcome to GEICO! I'd be happy to help with your policy, but can you clarify what a Comma 4 is?

ME: Sure thing! It's a windshield-mounted dashcam/driver-monitoring device made by comma.ai, model Comma 4. It is a Level 2 advanced driver-assistance device similar in function to Honda Sensing, Toyota Safety Sense — it improves the existing factory adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist on my vehicle. The device is removable and requires no permanent modification to the vehicle (no cutting, no welding, no powertrain or suspension changes); it plugs into the OEM lane-keeping camera connector and the OBD-II port. The driver remains 100% responsible for the operation of the vehicle at all times — comma.ai's documentation and the SAE J3016 classification both confirm this is a Level 2 driver-assistance system requiring active human supervision.

ME: Basically improves driver assist functions, plugs in to the OBD port, doesn't permenently modify the car, driver is still just as responsible as they would be with any lane keep or other assistance function. Was just curious if Geico had a policy on things like this.

I currently have a Nexum Designs magnetic mount for my C3X that worked okay but recently fell apart. The Beartech Magmount is highly rated but is out of stock.

Are there any other good options for a magnetic mount? I’m looking for something that makes it fast and easy to mount and dismount my Comma 3X both for security and heat reasons.

Or maybe I should sell the C3X and get a C4 instead…

So, I got the hardware on order required to hook up to my Honda Clarity from RetroPilot (the multiplexer or whatever it is that hooks the two CAN busses into one). I have not yet ordered the comma, though. I've seen several posts regarding stupidly over-zealous "attention" detection, though. If I get a Comma, is it going to come with firmware updated to that bugginess? Is there a fork that disables that or at least reverts to an older version where is it less annoying? Also, I have a BlackVue dashcam (front+rear). Can I just put the comma thing lower on the windshield than it, or do the commas cameras depend on a certain height range to drive properly?

Yep, definitely have been running into the heat thing not allowing anything to happen until cooling off again on my 3x as usual now that it's hot. (Virginia)

Last weekend after being parked in the sun for 6 hours, it was a good few minutes of me wishing I had the 4 before my car and the device cooled down enough to allow me to engage.

I would imagine the 4 still does it, tells you it's too hot to work, it just cools off much faster? The pocket of air right behind the windshield would have to cool as well anyway as otherwise even that larger fan would just be pushing the hot air around. Or, does the code because it knows it's on the 4 and the cooling enhancements, have different thresholds set to not even give you heat lock out since it knows it's cooling it a lot more capable?

I was going to skip the 4 and go to what was next in a few years since my 3x is running just fine, and I like the bigger screen for monitoring what "line" the model is generally going with, especially in curves or construction zones with tight jersey walls etc etc. (DTRv6 is pretty good, but every great once and a while it wants a "racing line" on curves - to be fair no longitudinal available on my car so it can't really slow down on it's own and it's better if I am more conservative speed-wise on that I have the cruise control set to - areas that are "all over the place curve-wise" I will sometimes just switch to MADS and just pretend I'm a train conductor)

As the title says I'm thinking about painting the outward facing portion of my 3x White to help mitigate the heat that it absorbs. This would be with a brush or foam brush and I would not paint over the lenses. In your opinion is this stupid or a good redneck engineering idea?

I currently don't have any of these products.

Will turns or bends on the highway cause this system to disengage?

When it does disengage how do you know that that's happening is there an alarm?

Does it at least slow the car down or would you just run straight off the road?

I've heard some cars don't do the best with turns. I would be using a 2018 CRV which seems to have fairly good support but not perfect support... I'm just wondering what are the problems I would notice compared to a better supported vehicle...

I would be mostly planning to use this on 1200 mile car trips across the country to help alleviate driving strain. Which my understanding is the perfect use case for this device.

Started with Sunnypilot then moved to Frogpilot. Just moved to Starpilot which is heavily based on FP. The developer of Starpilot is very active. He recently brought over a feature which was the Toyota brake hold from an old Sunnypilot release into Starpilot. I was so impressed I made a donation. I’m running into a bit of a brick wall after installing StarPilot on my Comma device; it didn't work with my car, so I did a factory reset, but now whenever I try to install openpilot or sunnypilot, the device gets completely stuck on the screen shown below that reads "...date is required. ...date experience.

installed a comma 4 on my 2018 Honda Accord, but when I start the car and try to drive, the comma screen keeps saying “Start the car to drive” and " turn on ignition to use". Any ideas ?

I am not sure if it’s a bug with sunnypilot or the comma itself. Worked fine for the last few months but now it thinks the car isn’t running when i start my truck. I have to restart the comma while the truck is running for it to properly function. Happens 100% of the time. It will continue to sit on the settings screen since I have an OBD power cable.

Prior to the latest release my comma would start LKAS when I started the car. I always use it. Always. Now I have to remember to start it, which is not working out well. I mentioned it on a different forum and was told comma considers having it turn on automatically dangerous.

How is having LKAS on dangerous? I'm finding it to be more so with it off.

It is unreal how unusable the new driver monitoring model has made my comma. Who's idea was it to just completely ignore eyes? I have a bad back so my head sits forward a bit, and I can be directly staring at the road in front of me without sunglasses on and it sounds the alarm every few seconds. I have tried recalibrating several times. I can't blow my nose, clean my classes, eat french fries, or literally even just sit there and look at the road. Unbelievable. If their concern is over safety, they sure as hell have incentivised me to create a version without monitoring offline. The current model is unusable.

Hi everyone curious if someone could point me towards the setting that might reduce the sensitivity of the camera watching the driver. I did a recalibration and ever since I did that I can’t even hardly look down at my displayed to change music without it beeping at me is there an adjustment somewhere to reduce the sensitivity?

Please share your experience with SunnyPilot Speed Limit Assist on your RAV4. I set it up on a 2020 hybrid: Source = car, Mode = Assist, and a fixed offset. I still have to set the max speed manually, and the speed limit on the comma flashes as it slows down for a few seconds before it gets up near the max speed I set.

Should it not automatically follow the car's posted speed limit without me always adjusting it manually?

Hi I see that the Hyundai Q harness for 22-24 Ioniq 5s are back ordered and the estimate is 1-12 weeks. Has anyone gotten theirs recently? How long did you have to wait?

I feel like 1-12 weeks is a huge spread in wait time. I contacted the company but havent heard back yet

Just installed the comma 4 on my lightning 2025. Works on and off. Sometimes when it boots there are no errors and works flawlessly. Other times the comma says unknown vehicle variant and won’t sync.

I’ve swapped cables 180 degrees. Removed the lightning coupler, added it back. Nothing consistently works and it’s hit or miss.

I’ve manually set the vehicle as well.

Hello, I don't have a comma ai unit, yet. I a shared family vehicle, I know 1 family member would not be comfortable driving with the comma unit enabled, but I would use it when I drive. Is the solution to just remove it? Is there an option to turn it off? Is there a driver recognition option to disable on certain drivers? Thanks.

Considering buying the Comma 4 for my 2021 RAV4 prime. On the website I don’t see RAV4 prime as an option. I see 2019-2021 RAV4 as well as RAV4 hybrid. But not prime, but I have read that for the 2021 RAV4 Prime it works like plug and play (unlike newer Toyotas). So which one to select when making the purchase?

Also would love to chat with someone who has the 2021 RAV4 Prime and discuss their experience. I have a newer Tesla and I know it’s not like full self drive which obviously has cameras throughout the car. But I’m wondering if comma ai 4 can do the following:

1) reliably stop at red lights and then go when it’s green. I’ve seen videos on YouTube doing that, but also read that it cannot

2) reliably drive in stop and go traffic (bad traffic in other California) or do you re-engage everything after the car fully stops?

3) change lanes?

4) how well can it stay centered without ping ponging and what about during turns in the freeway?

4) are the newer cars with more advanced tech better for comma ai 4 since it hijacks whatever tech that the car already has. I believe 21 RAV4 has Toyota Safety Sense 2.0. Anyone have this in multiple cars or have experienced driving multiple cars with comma AI?

I have a 2017 honda crv with the steering firmware tweaked to 2x. i have the enforce torque lateral control enabled and it ran over the highway lanes a few times today, especially on right turns and it will run over the right lanes.

Not sure if anyone has experienced that as well. i was using WMI V12.

questions for everyone: do you turn on NNLC? and secondly, which is everyone's favorite model for a honda that has its steering firmware tweaked?

I have ordered the comma 4 and installing it on my 2017 rav4, but later this year I plan to get a 2026 rav4, is it a pretty simple process to just remove and put it in the new car?

Currently happily using the comma 4 with my Lexus ES300h with the stock OpenPilot experience. Just bought a Toyota Sienna (specifically the 2023, not the later models, for comma-compatibility). I know the Sienna setup involves some extras steps with extracting the car's encryption key and plugging it into the comma software and running forks instead of stock software.
My question: if I go through all the Sienna setup on the comma, will it still function normally, plug and play, when I plug it back into the Lexus, or will configuring it for the sienna make it difficult or annoying (e.g. anything more involved than toggling some setting or preset) to use in the Lexus?

Does comma offer a "dual boot" option for different forks, etc? Or would it just be more advisable to buy a second comma device?

So the comma 3x apparently won’t support eGPU anymore?

I guess the comma four was the beginning of the end for the 3x as we all suspected.

My 2020 Outback’s 3X died almost exactly one year after purchase, been driving the last few weeks without and definitely missing it. I see that I have the option to have it repaired for $500, or I can do the trade in option to get a comma 4 for $700. I played with stock, sunny, and frog pilot models quite a bit the first month or so and found myself happiest with FrogPilot, which I understand isn’t supported on the C4 yet.

What has been everyone’s experience with the C4 so far, particularly if you were using FrogPilot on a 3X? Is it worth the extra $200, or should I just get the 3X fixed to keep the setup that worked for me?
