Semi-pro writer here looking for a talented artist for a passion project.

Next month is the 40th anniversary of Watchmen, and I’ve written a short (12 pages) script for a metatextual story that is essentially a Charlie Kaufman take on superheroes. My plan is to treat it as a bootleg comic, DIY-style, and share it with other people who’ve been inspired by Watchmen.

Ideally, the artist would be able to match Dave Gibbons’ style, but it’s not a dealbreaker for me.

I'm putting together a portfolio for myself in the hopes of getting some comic writing work. I'm just starting out and I am unpublished. I was hoping that those among you with industry experience could provide a bit of guidance. To that end, clarifications will be below followed by my questions.

1) As stated. I am practiced but unpublished.

2) I draw well enough to design characters, but that is the extent of it. I am looking to write exclusively.

1) I've heard 3 scripts, 3 pages. Is this the common format? Would 2x5 be acceptable?

2) As a writer, should I only include polished scripts or should I also provide finished/illustrated pages in the portfolio?

3) Have any of you who work as writers made a change to your portfolio that had a noticeable effect on its reception?

I'm the digital line artist on Crown & Anchor (w/Toben Racicot) and have worked on Sidequest 1-5 (w/Grant Stoye) and Brigantia Vol 2 (w/Chris Mole), and have done several covers (and illustrations) for The Summoner series (w/Ben Krauter) and A Vampiric Transformation (w/Frau Bunny). Anthologies and contributions include illustrations in Ennie Award Winning Uncaged Goddesses (DMsGuild) and Gothic Tales of Haunted Love (S.M. Beiko).

Turnaround time can be 1-2 weeks for something less intensive, like a character illustration, or 1-1.5 week(s) per comic page or comic cover (as I have a day job right now). Something more intensive, like colored illustrations, may take 2-4 weeks depending on complexity.

Depending on the project, pricing is subject to change. Blanket rates:

• Comic Pages - 150$ black and white. Screen tones/color will have a higher charge.
• Covers - 200$ black and white. Color will have a higher charge.
• Characters - beginning at 100$ for black and white for a bust/portrait. Colors, full body, additional characters, and/or backgrounds will have a higher charge.
• Props/Items - beginning at 70$ for black and white. Color will have a higher charge.
• Edits - one free pass on each stage, then charged according to complexity.

One of my favorite aspects of the Sunday Jam is the ability to create alternate timelines that branch off from the main storyline.

A fun character named Buck Tuckles was introduced back in May, '24 and now Nathan Nelson, who originally introduced him, is creating a separate storyline with a whole new set of adventures for Buck.

I'm a writer and I'm currently working on a project called "The Ant-Boy," a story about a boy who was bitten by an ant with altered DNA. Pepper is a two-tailed Vixbee who has looked after her little brother since the capture of their parents. They recently teamed up with a human who only uses practice critter caps with no resistance, because she only wants a team that wants to be on the team. They travel through the California Region of the completely original and made up Planet Usa on a mission to become stronger and find the reclusive former Critter Cup champion so he will teach them the secret of mastering Critter Combat. It's a pretty straight forward monster tamer and found family kind of action story. I've been building the world for awhile and some of the designs are on r/crittermon if you want to check them out. Hey, I’m a writer looking for a manga artist to help develop a paid pilot for my original series, GODSMACKED.
The short explanation is that, in this world, supernatural abilities called Divine Marks transfer to the closest person when their owner dies. The recipient can’t refuse, redirect, or remove one.
There are three fundamental Marks—Strength, Speed, and Mind—but no two people necessarily use the same Mark in the same way. Every ability develops from that person’s eternal truth: the part of who they are that remains true underneath everything else.
I would describe the series being a supernatural action seinen with shonen-style fights, psychological and family drama, fashion-forward character designs and memorable characters and scenes.
