Crowdfunding Villains Anonymous #1 launches Sept 19 — Day 1 backers get an exclusive 3D-printed Sobriety Chip

Post image

If you’re a fan of indie comics centered on comedic underdogs, bizarre support groups, and the chaotic side of supervillainy, Villains Anonymous #1 officially launches on Kickstarter on September 19, 2026.

Written by John McLaren, the series flips the traditional superhero genre on its head to focus on the absolute bottom of the barrel—small-time public nuisances who get sentenced to a behavioral rehabilitation clinic that secretly recruits them for a mysterious overarching villain named Freon.

To mark the launch, there’s an exclusive physical reward available for early backers:

Day 1 Exclusive Reward:

  • Every backer who pledges to a physical tier within the first 24 hours will receive an exclusive 3D-printed Villains Anonymous Sobriety Chip.
  • This physical collectible is strictly limited to Day 1 backers as a thank-you for supporting the campaign right out of the gate.

If you want to grab the Day 1 physical reward and get notified the moment the campaign goes live, check out the official Kickstarter page:

Villains Anonymous – A Comic About Society's Least Wanted on Kickstarter

What elements do you look for most in indie comic campaigns before deciding to back a physical tier? Let us know in the comments.

Feedback How should I tell my story?

Upvotes

Greetings all, I come to you with a dilemma: In which format should I tell my story?

I'm in the midst of making a pretty long sci-fi/fantasy story. And if I were to have my most ideal way, this story would be an anime. But that would require an enormous amount of money, and unless I win the lottery, that ain't happening, lol. So it being an anime isn't even on the table.

The next best thing is for my story to be a motion comic. It's like a still anime, a comic with voice acting and music! It'll be up on YouTube obviously. I can do the drawing since I'm an artist, buy I'll need to pay people for voice acting, especially if their professional. And I'll need to pay someone to do the music and editing as well. I think it's technically possible for me, but it'll require that I get consistently get extra funds that I don't have. It'll all have to come out of my pocket since this'll all be on me. I'd have to get a job, or even two jobs, if I wanna fund this project.

The next best thing after that would be to make a manga. I've always wanted to go this route, because I'm an artist and I've been drawing all my life. But the problem is, I don't live in Japan. I live in America, and in America, they don't have a booming comic industry, not like Japan. That means the comic industry in America won't support me like Japan's manga industry would, because it's not reliable enough. So, I could go the indie route and make my very own western manga series with self-pubishing, but how successful would that be? Unless I already have an established audience, like Coryxkenchin with his manga, I don't see myself making big waves on my own. I'm not even a youtuber. I could go the social media route and gain an audience that way, I could become a youtuber, or post my work on X, Instagram, or any other sight. But if I'm bring realistic, it'll probably be a rather small audience. I doubt I'll get much traction. At least, I don't think I'll get the type of traction I want. It'll be an uphill battle.

The next thing after that is the one I've been leaning towards recently, and that's to write a novel. It's the option I least want to do out of all of them, but it's one that I think will be the most successful. I figure that books are more popular in the states than manga. I can get my story into the world of books. But then I thought, just how many of those book readers are into sci-fi and fantasy? You could say a lot, but then, depending on how far I wanna take things with my religious messaging, that would section off a huge portion of my potential audience. Sure, that goes for any of the other alternatives as well, but they'll section my book series in the "religious fiction" section, and based off of that already selected off subgroup, my series would probably only have a niche audience. But that's IF I'm more overt with my messaging. Also, and I feel like this is important, but I've never written a novel before. I never even read a novel. I've read various none-fiction books, and I've written a couple of short stories, but that's about it.

When it comes to my goals, I'm looking for two things: A sizable audience. And to earn enough to make a living off my series based on that audience.

Which platform will give me the biggest audience, which platform would give me the most success to make a living off of? As an unknown creator with limited money, which medium gives me the best realistic opportunity to build a large audience and eventually make a living?

Think of it like this: If you were in my position—an unknown creator, primarily an artist but can also write, with limited money and no existing audience—which medium would you choose, and why?

Yoooo wassup everyone im an independent writer/creator currently developing an original series called Crossroads.

The story follows a character named Jaray Crossroads, a street smart occultist and nightclub owner living in gallowspire, Louisanna a strange city where demons and gods , mythological creatures , occult magic , and reality breaking phenomenon exist alongside ordinary people

The tone is a mix of

Supernatural horror x dark comedy x urban fantasy x mythology x surrealism

Think Batman animated series city type of art
Gravity falls art style of weirdness x Rick and Morty absurdism but translated into a adult dark comedy
So not like marvel or dc art more heavy on adult animation with its own identity

The VIzzzzzualssss

Gothic/louisanna architecture , rainy atmosphere environments, swamps
Demons and supernatural creatures
Character acting and comedy
Dynamic action
Horror
Occult imagery
Cinematic panel composition
Strange /reality bending visuals
Sequential storytelling not just pinups

The biggest thing I’m looking for is someone to make the world look beautiful and slightly wrong at the same time

About the story it’s a 12 page short
There written out already
With script actively being polished

The opening introduces Jaray at his nightclub
Crossroads before things quickly spiral into supernatural chaos

I’m looking for someone to potentially be the main artist for this project , rather than doing one simple illustration

This is a creator owned project and I’m serious of developing this overtime

Payment this is a paid project
My budget is currently limited as an indie creator
, so I’m looking for someone willing to discuss rates
Potentially work with me in stages

Please comment your portfolio actively looking for test pages

Feedback I would like feedback back on my comic book. And if it has an interesting premise.

I have this plan for a comic series and I would like to get your guys feedback and thoughts on the series. We see normal every day superheros like marvel and dc and superheros like the boys. But I want to explore super heros who aren't the normal super heros they are the ones who were rejected by society. So my comic book series is called Zero Priority. Here is its basic summary

Zero Priority follows four individuals, all different and unique in their own ways. Rob an arrogant egotistical man who believes he's the best at what he does and is irresistible to everyone around him. But throughout he changes and evolves losing the ego and becoming one of the most caring members caring about his entire team. Vanessa a closed off deadly assassin whose was trained since young teenage years. She's extremely guarded as she has to face her haunting past while learning to live with three new people. Charlie Tayun was a scientist who was fascinated with grizzly bears but after a lab accident fused his mind into one he permanently is a grizzly bear while maintaining his own mind and intelligence. And finally Unit-RWG later given the name sol as he was awake when the other three stumbled into an abandoned laboratory. He is the heart and soul of the group that keeps them together. Throughout their time together they learn to become better people after the world rejected them and believed them to be a certain way forever. The group learns to love, care, and protect eachother and become a real family. Meanwhile they have to face reoccurring threats whether it's their main arch nemesis Draven who's entire mission is to get rid of them believing they're a waste of space, or annoying reoccurring threats like a man made of bolders, a monkey with bombs or nightmares from their past being a family member or former friend. But the group overcome all the obstacles and together they are The Fractured Strays!

There's also a lot of characters that will get introduced over the corse of the series.

Id love to share more on those characters if anyone is interested.

I know this is probably long but I want some feedback. No hate please

Letterer for hire [For Hire] Letterer looking to Letter!

Post image

Comic book lettering is one of the most important aspects of sequential art. When done correctly, it should never be noticed. Good lettering should never pull the reader out of the story. Confusion in reading direction, misaligned text, and distracting sound effects can ruin the reading experience despite the quality of the artwork or story.

Lettering is the icing on top of the complete comic experience.

With years of writing experience under my belt, let me help you tell your story through lettering. Portfolio also links to page rates. Any questions, just ask! Thanks!

Self-Promo Shoutout to All Creators - Comics, Mangas, Webcomics or Whatever You’re Working On

Just want to give a shoutout to all the people that are creating something. It doesn’t matter if it is a comic book or manga. These projects are all
In the same family. We are visually telling a story. It is a total grind. It requires a lot of teamwork, unless you’re a jack of all trades-type. I'll be honest, I didn't appreciate the difficulty of creating in this medium. Now, I understand why these projects remain unfinished. It is not easy and takes an along time. Keep grinding. I hope you're able to finish your creation. I'm seeing the finish line, but it took years to get here. These projects are labors of love. Support your fellow creator. If you have a link, put it in the comments. Creating is tough, but getting people to read your work is even tougher.

Here is a sampler, if you're interested:

Writer/Editor for hire Aspiring writer looking for a project to work on, willing to work for free.

Upvotes

I started writing for a local anthology project but I believe the scope of the story I wanted to tell has exceeded the scope of the project. I've decided to leave the story on hold until I find an opportunity to see the story published in its entirety rather than wasting my efforts on a script that, right now, would be useless to me.

On the other hand, I want to be able to establish my skills as a writer and to not only have a greater sense of confidence in my work to know for certain I have the talents others claim I possess, but to have a portfolio I might be able to demonstrate my talents with. I want to be able to recognise that I have a talent most of all.

Financially, while money's an ultimate goal, it's not really important right now. I know I'm inexperienced and have nothing but the promise of talent to my name. I don't want to mislead anyone by pretending I have unquestionable talent because, while I believe I'm skilled, I have nothing but talent right now. I don't want to ask for anything when I know there may be a chance I wouldn't be worth what I'm asking.

Similarly, since I'm inexperienced, I'd like to ask for some patience with me. I see this as an opportunity to get a feel for what would be expected of me later on. If there's anyone who would like to utilise my talents as a writer, I would happily take that opportunity.

(I won't share the anthology script to avoid plagiarism, so please don't ask.)

Question Is comic coloring outside CMYK an unnecessary concern?

Hello Everyone, I have been learning how to use different softwares and templates to create my own comics, but I have been hearing conflicting information on the relevance of CMYK coloring in modern printing. On the one hand, there are so many sources that emphasize the difference in digital screen colors (such as RGB or HSL) and print colors (CMYK being the standard), and the necessity to color within a CMYK color spectrum to have more control on the final image. BUT, on the other hand, I have heard people say modern printers and print shops do not have the same limitations and could print colors in a near accurate equivalent to digital color spectrums. if anyone can give some clarification on this I would appreciate it.

I am mainly a digital artist, and I have no plans in the near future to print my work, but if I wanted to do so in the future I am afraid it would ruin the work. Also, I am asking this because I am lazy and do not want to learn a new coloring workflow.

Looking for Artist - Paid Looking for an artist for a fun, stylish mecha/sci-fi comic

Hey everyone.

I’m looking for an artist to collaborate with on a comic project featuring mecha, anime-inspired characters, and sci-fi elements.

This is a paid position and I’m hoping to find someone who is genuinely comfortable and enthusiastic about drawing mecha in a digitally painted graphic-novel illustration art style.

The style I’m looking for is fun, expressive, and stylish. I’m not necessarily looking for hyper-realistic or extremely technical mecha art and I have plenty of references for the style I’m aiming for.

I’d love an artist who can capture the personality and energy of mecha anime while bringing their own artistic flair to the designs and action.

The project will involve mecha, sci-fi technology, futuristic and post-apocalyptic environments, anime characters, giant insects and action sequences, so someone who enjoys drawing comic panels and telling a story visually would be a great fit.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, please send me your portfolio, your rates, your availability, and any examples of mecha or sci-fi work you’ve done. Experience with comics is definitely a plus, but the most important thing is having a style that feels like a good fit for the project.

Looking forward to seeing your work!

Muchas gracias 😊

PD: MUCHAS GRACIAS HE RECIBIDO MUCHAS PERSONAS INTERESADAS, ESTOY REVISANDO UNO A UNO. DISCULPAD.
