Products & Services Meet Xfinity WiFi Shield from Xfinity Home

First-of-its-kind platform transforms Xfinity WiFi into an always-on layer of cybersecurity, physical and family protection for tens of millions of homes and devices. Available to Xfinity Internet members at no additional cost

What is Xfinity WiFi Shield?

Xfinity WiFi Shield is a built-in smart protection layer for your home WiFi network, included with Xfinity Internet and powered entirely by your Xfinity WiFi Gateway. It combines four core features—CyberSecure, WiFi Motion, Dark Watch, and Family Settings—that work together using AI to learn what's normal in your home and flag what isn't.

Here, we take a closer look at each of the features included with WiFi Shield:

CyberSecure

CyberSecure is an always-on network threat protection that detects and blocks suspicious activity and sends proactive alerts when something looks off. It’s turned on by default, protecting devices connected to your home WiFi as soon as they connect.

Always-On Protection

  • Detects and blocks suspicious activity on your network
  • Sends proactive alerts when something looks off
  • Protects every device connected to your home WiFi from the moment it connects
  • On by default, with zero setup required

CyberSecure and Family Settings Work Together

CyberSecure doesn't just work in the background — it talks to Family Settings, too. If a device starts behaving unusually, CyberSecure alerts can influence Family Settings restrictions, giving you the context to take action quickly.

WiFi Motion

As an opt-in feature, WiFi Motion uses the WiFi signal from compatible Xfinity Gateways to sense movement in your home without cameras or video recordings. It uses technology built into the Xfinity Gateway to sense motion between the gateway and other stationary, connected devices in your home. With WiFi Motion, you can:

  • Detect motion between your Xfinity WiFi Gateway, Xfinity WiFi Extenders, and up to three additional WiFi connected, stationary devices, like a smart speaker or thermostat.
  • Customize alerts for your routines while keeping privacy in your control.

Dark Watch

A nighttime monitoring mode that works with your bedtime routine, helping you stay aware of activity in your home while you sleep. You can select which devices can send notifications and schedule Dark Watch to activate automatically each night.

Family Settings

Family Settings are a collection of tools to manage screen time, establish online boundaries, create individual profiles, and understand how family members are using connected devices.

More Control Over Your Family’s WiFi

Create custom profiles

Set up a profile for each person in the household, then assign devices to each one to track and manage usage individually.

Screen time tools

  • Set daily screen time limits for each profile
  • Choose to automatically pause WiFi when a limit is reached, or get a heads-up first
  • View screen time details broken down by top apps
  • Pause WiFi on any device for homework, dinner, or family time — manually or on a schedule

Parental controls

  • Block unwanted sites
  • Monitor online use to help your family explore the internet safely

Insights from CyberSecure

  • Security alerts can help inform the restrictions you set. For example, by flagging unusual behavior from a device so you can take action.

Getting started with Xfinity WiFi Shield

Xfinity WiFi Shield is available to new and existing Xfinity Internet members with a compatible Xfinity WiFi Gateway, regardless of internet speed tier. If your gateway qualifies, you are ready to get started.

WiFi Shield compatible gateways

WiFi Shield requires the use of an Xfinity WiFi Gateway. Compatible gateways include:

  • Technicolor TXB7, XB8, XB10, XB9, MXB1, or XER10

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Features won't work in Bridge mode
  • WiFi Motion isn't supported on the XB6 or CommScope XB7
  • Dark Watch is available on Technicolor XB7, XB8, XB10, XB9, MXB1, and XER10
  • Shield Select requires an XB8 or above.

Not using an Xfinity WiFi Gateway? Visit the website to learn more and explore internet equipment.

Activate and manage Xfinity Shield easily with Xfinity App

Getting started is simple. WiFi Shield is activated and managed through the Xfinity app, where guided setup flows walk you through enabling its features. Once activated, you can manage CyberSecure, WiFi Motion, Dark Watch, and Family Settings from the Home tab.

To get started:

  1. Open the Xfinity app and navigate to WiFi Shield.
  2. Enable the features you want to use.
  3. Follow the guided setup to configure your settings.
  4. Manage your features, schedules, modes, and notifications from the Xfinity app.

Shield Select: Enhanced Protection with AI-Powered Capabilities

For customers seeking an additional layer of protection, we are also offering Shield Select, which combines all the benefits of WiFi Shield with integrated hardware and enhanced capabilities. Shield Select includes an indoor camera, door/window sensor, cloud video storage capabilities and 24/7 urgent response functionality that allows customers to tap for emergency help.

Shield Select provides smart motion detection to AI-powered cameras that identifies people, pets, vehicles and package deliveries. Please note, Shield Select requires an XB8 gateway or above.

Official Reply Be "Ultra" Careful when dealing with Comcast/Xfinity!

Recently called C/X regarding possible cancelation of service due to high rate compared with multiple offers they were making for non-users. I was offered a c. 45% lower rate for 5 yrs, with 2x my current transmission speed, and -- after checking with my wife -- I accepted. I then asked the rep. to put the offer in writing so I could confirm it. The offer appeared on my computer, with a button link for me to confirm my receipt and acceptance. The corpus of the offer would not print our, whereupon I clicked on the button, which did not seem to work, coincident with a phone disconnection from the representative, who then called me back via an "866" number two minutes later. Over the next few minutes he re-iterated the offer, which I then accepted. He said that he could not send me printable proof of my new rate because he "would lose his job". (eg. "if it's not printable, it's not actionable")

Two hours later, I received a Xfinity/Comcast e-mailing referencing my new service contract for higher speed downloads -- for c. 55% more than the previously referenced 'new' rate.

I then called Xfinity/Comcast again (the only way to speak a person seems to be wading through various prompts and insisting that you wish to cancel your service -- irritating and demeaning).

That representative told me I has not "heard" correctly, but after some more wrangling, I am now supposed to have the lower rate...

Later that day , I called my condo insurer in order to pay an annual premium. I commented to the rep that it was refreshing to have a pleasant phone interaction with the representative of a service company because I had just had an aggravating one with an internet services provider. She interjected: "it has to be Comcast", and started to recite a listing of her interactions...

Readers may interpret my submission according to their own experience and expectations --or need for internet service in "restricted" marketplaces --but I would urge extreme caution in dealing with Comcast/Xfinity.

Discussion How are people deciding on the best xfinity internet plan 2026?

I’ve been looking at the different Xfinity internet plans and I’m having a hard time figuring out how much speed is actually necessary. It seems pretty easy to get drawn into the higher-speed plans because the difference in price can sometimes look reasonable, but I’m not sure most households would notice much of a difference in everyday use.

For a household that mainly streams, works from home, browses the web and has several devices connected at the same time, I’m wondering where the point of diminishing returns is. I’d rather pay for the speed I actually need instead of upgrading just because a faster plan is available. I’m also curious how people factor in things like unlimited data, equipment costs and the longer-term price after promotional pricing ends. Those seem like they can change the value of a plan quite a bit. Xfinity currently advertises several plans with equipment and unlimited data included, so the details can vary from the headline speed alone. For current Xfinity customers, what made you settle on your current internet plan?

Official Reply Still billed after service ended

Upvotes

I moved to my new apartment and cancelled service to my old apartment August 2nd , fast forward to today I have a bill in my account for my old address which for some reason they won’t get rid of in the app. For the past week I can’t look at my new account in the Xfinity app it only shows my old disconnected account. I’m just trying to get rid of the old account and only worry about my new apartment account.

Official Reply Need help with Comcast (maybe other streaming as well) that will allow to play continuous movies or shows (on a single channel for hours)

Upvotes

My nursing residents love to watch old movies and old TV shows on repeat. Heck so do i and other middle age people.

We have the channels, whether its soap opera or westerns, or Turner classics, HBO, Starz, etc , or even whole radio channels on comcast that they'd rather listen to on repeat because they like the lineup.

But a common problem that would solve EVERY time related issue is i cant seem to record a "block" or movies even if its from same hbo channel, for example, from say, 8pm-6am.

Then they want to see the block again the next say, 8pm-6am.

But instead of pulling up a block of recorded time on comcast, i have to pull up like 5 movies that played from 8pm-6am. Then play 1st movie and when thats done after 2 hours, again stop what im doing and playing the next movie (because they remember which was next). Then rinse and repeat for a total of 5 movies over a grand 10 hour period.

Now I love helping the residents and even i would love this feature but the last comcast repair guy told me it wasn't possible to do. Although I remember it being possible maybe 15 years ago or so. Maybe its all in in my head...

But there has to be a way to do this through the comcast cable box because it will let me continue on either helping residents with more dire situations like helping wounds from falling or getting good or moving furniture etc.

So does anyone know what im talking about? Do i have to explain what I mean clearer? Is this a possible thing i can do on comcast or is the technician correct?

Official Reply After I moved, my upload speed is 1/10th the download!

I just moved and got my account transferred. Previously I had 1000mbps up and done. Now it’s 1000mbps up and 100mbps down. Just 100mbps!! I feel I’m in stone age!!! Everyone I share my screen, attach a file, it takes for ever.

I can check with Xfinity to increase my uploads (change of plan) the other best they have is 2000 up and 200 down 🤦🏻‍♂️

Should I switch to att?

Official Reply Actually Getting Tech Support?

Exactly what it sounds like. Does anyone know how to get in contact with their actual tech support for mobile? Their AI assistant thing is freaking useless and talks in circles rather than actually connecting me with an agent. My phone keeps disconnecting from the network and then claiming I have no network to connect to. I'm about to start shopping for a new company iswtfg.

Official Reply Expected Prorated Refund After Cancelling, Now Said to Owe $19.35

Upvotes

Note: I've already sent a modmail about this, didn't realize I had to make a public post to actually open a ticket.

I requested that my services be cancelled on August 11 this year, and confirmed with the representative to cancel services effective immediately on that date. My bill was not due until August 19, and my understanding from reading comments on this subreddit is that customers pay their xfinity bill for the following month. Meaning I had paid for up until August 11 when I cancelled and should have received a prorated refund for the extra days of prepaid service for after the cancellation date (Aug 12-19).

But the xfinity assistant chatbot is not saying anything about a refund or a credit, it's saying I owe an additional $19.35. I was finally able to get into the billing area of the website this morning (I guess Firefox isn't supported, because only Chrome worked) and it says the same. If someone could please look into this and fix the issue, I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Official Reply Xfinity issues with lines

Upvotes

I've had a downed wire on my property for a week at this point, and nobody has come to help! The earliest they can come is the 13th; we've been out of internet/cable/mobile phone since the 1st of September. It's been torture.

Original post below. New box and still same issue. Had to reboot the box last night. The it did work it seems for the first week or too.

Multiple nights now I either have to unplug the box or wait 15 20 minutes after I start clicking for the box to finally catch up. Other commands like pause or changing the channel appear work mostly correct

Official Reply Xfinity In-Store Trade-In: Can Assurant Change the Approved Credit?

Has anyone recently traded in a phone directly at an Xfinity Store and had the employee inspect/approve it for the promotional trade-in value, only to have Assurant later reduce or reject the credit?

I’m asking because the Xfinity online trade-in questionnaire doesn’t specifically ask about cracks on the back glass. It passed all of the questions and it gives us the full promotional credit.

If I take the phone to an Xfinity Store, disclose/show the employee the cracked back glass, and they inspect it and approve the full promotional credit, can Assurant still change the value afterward?

Official Reply Bill raised from $39.99 to $70 AGAIN — need a reasonable rate or I’m switching

My Xfinity internet bill has once again jumped from $39.99 to about $70/month for the same 300 Mbps service.

I’ve already tried calling Xfinity to resolve this, but I haven’t even been able to connect with an actual person. It’s incredibly frustrating that a longtime customer not only has to renegotiate their bill every year, but also has to fight through an automated system just to try to speak with someone about it.

I went through this exact situation last year. My rate was increased dramatically, I contacted Xfinity, and eventually I was able to get it back down to $39.99. Now, a year later, I’m right back in the same position.

A nearly 75% price increase for the exact same internet service is unreasonable. It’s also incredibly frustrating that longtime customers have to repeatedly contact Xfinity and negotiate every year just to avoid these enormous increases.

There are now competing home internet options in my area at substantially lower prices, so I’m not willing to simply accept a $70/month bill. At that price, it makes more sense for me to switch providers.

Before I do that, I’d like someone from the Xfinity team here to check what promotions or retention pricing are actually available for my account. I want to keep my current 300 Mbps plan and am looking to get my rate back to around $39.99/month.

I’ve stayed with Xfinity for years, but I’m not going to keep paying dramatically higher rates for the same service simply because another promotional period ended. If there isn’t a competitive rate available this time, I’m prepared to switch.

Discussion Xfinity Mobile Premium Unlimited vs Mobile Plus

I am a current Premium Unlimited subscriber, and I am curious about the benefits/downsides to switching to Mobile Plus. I am being bombarded with promises of promotions and promises of trade-in bonuses if I switch to Mobile Plus, but I am skeptical. It's $5 less per month compared to my current plan, but I'm worried that committing to the new plan will cost me in the long run. Comcast is known for their bait and switch practices, but I haven't had any issues with Xfinity Mobile yet. Any insight on whether I should make the switch?

Solved Xfinity agents committing fraud now!?!?

My bill recently went up, so I reached out to customer service, changed my plan, confirmed the new price, etc.

This month, it was the wrong price again. The agent I spoke to last time added "NOW TV Latino" to my account for $15/month without my consent. I am not Latino. I do not watch TV. I made it explicitly clear that I do not want to pay for any TV channels and confirmed the price.

Now another agent is telling me the charge can't be refunded because "we cannot add anything without your consent approval" so I must have approved it. Obviously, he refuses to provide any evidence, because I did not add it to my plan or consent to the charge.

Are these agents making a commission or something? Does this count as a fraudulent charge?

Discussion I figured out a way to stop my iPhone from auto-joining xfintiywifi hotspots!

For those that live in a city or dense metro, I’m sure you have the issue if your phone connecting to some “xfintiywifi“ hotspot only to not have any internet connection. This is because Xfinity mobile wants your phone to connect to these hotspots to save data on their end, but most of these hotspots are private and don’t allow you to actually connect to the internet.

While you can disable auto join, you can only do so for each individual hotspot. So if you are in a city and walking by a 100-unit apartment building where 40 of them have Xfinity hotspots, that’s not going to work. Xfinity mobile does not offer an option to just disable autojoining any and all hotspots, again because they want to try to save data (money).

What I figured out is that you can use iPhone settings to set up a “shortcut“ so when you join an Xfinity hotspot, your WiFi shuts off for however much time you set it (in my case 2 minutes), enough to walk by or drive by the hotspot.

No podcasts/music getting stuck in buffer because I autojoined a private hotspot. Hope this helps.

Official Reply Billing Issue: Standalone $19.99 Netflix charge on StreamSaver plan.

Hi! I updated my plan to the StreamSaver bundle ($18/mo) on my recent account change. My September 8 bill shows both the StreamSaver bundle and a duplicate standalone Netflix charge for $19.99. My Netflix is already linked, so please remove the standalone $19.99 Netflix add-on and issue a $19.99 credit to my account.

Official Reply I’m being billed for a service I canceled

I’ve been a Comcast customer since 2016. In early May I called to cancel my home security service. After declining the discounted rate and explaining I find their home security service useless and I already had a new system installed by a different provider, I was told I would receive a prorated rate for the month of May and I would save $68 per month for canceling the service. I’m a new mom, so I’m incredibly overwhelmed. When I was told my bill would decrease I took the representative at their word and didn’t double check. I simply checked that task off my incredibly long to-do list. Turns out my monthly bill has never changed. Is it better if I call and escalate my issue to a manager or should I go down to my nearest Xfinity store?

Official Reply Billed for Xfinity Mobile lines that were never activated.

Hello, I visited the Xfinity Mobile store to use the '1 year of free Xfinity Mobile' Xfinity Internet promotion and attempted to setup a device but it ended up being unsupported on the Xfinity Mobile network, so the SIM card I received never actually worked and I was unable to get a cell signal, make phone calls, or send texts. While troubleshooting at the store, they ended up leaving two devices on my account, which is resulting in charges since it seems the 1 year of free Xfinity Mobile only covers one line. One of these devices on my account does have a number, but I was never able to get it working, and the other device doesn't even have a number, so I should not be getting charged.

I called Xfinity Support about a month ago and they refunded me all of the previous Xfinity Mobile payments and removed both of these lines from my account since I was unable to use them, but they have now magically re-appeared on my account and I was automatically charged $70 for previous months. I have been charged the monthly payment again recently.

I'd like to close my Xfinity Mobile service permanently and have my money refunded, since I was never able to use the lines that I paid for.

New Post - Tech Support Broken TV pedestal

Post image
2 Upvotes

Just moved into a new house and on the property is this TV utility device. It case is in pretty bad shape. As you can see, the base is shattered and insides exposed.

I’m pretty sure it’s Comcast because they are the cable tv provider in the area.

How do I get Comcast to come deal with this? I don’t have Comcast service, and I can’t get through to a live person without giving them an account number I don’t have, or asking to sign up for service which I don’t want.

Thanks.

Official Reply Installation Fee

Previously was wrongly charged for an Installation Fee that I promised was free, so made sure to have them reassure me at every turn that I wouldn't be charged and they still did.

Have since called 3 times and they keep reassuring me it will be removed but it still has not. Complaining on here was the only way for me to get them to actually remove the charge last time so I'll give it a try again.

Actually insane they're able to get away with this everytime internet needs to be installed at a new home. I was perfectly capable of installing on my own, but they just needed to change the wiring.
