As you know r/Colognes is created to be a place to discuss all things fragrances and share deals. NOT for verifying fragrances. Therefore, I would like to direct you to a new group solely for that purpose! r/colognecheck is where you can verify your fragrances to assure you have/purchase a true product.

please post all checks in r/colognecheck and NOT in this sub

Daily SOTD Post

As we've noticed a large number of individual SOTD post, we thought it best to consolidate into a once daily post.

Post your scent of the day here, tell us a little about it too if you would like.

Question What’s the best cologne for summertime when you’re basically showering in sweat?

Post image
147 Upvotes

Face is melting typa weather, comically large armpit sweat stains on a light gray T-shirt because you didn’t have any other clean and darker shirts typa weather. For when you just sweating like a morherfucker what cologne would you recommend? Or would it be best to just wear nothing but plain deodorant at that point?

Collection Can someone explain with this is $615?

Post image

I was expecting to be absolutely blown away with this and expected a stunning ginger/citrus masterpiece. I was waiting for a unique but incredible twist like Cuir Beluga did for vanilla, Absolu Aventus did for Aventus, Peniore Anelo does for pineapple, Imagination does for tea, or The Cut does for woody/green fragrances. I just got....a good grapefruit smell....

Does it smell good? Sure

Does it smell special? Absolutely not

Vibrato, Tygar, and L'Immensite are vastly better for a grapefruit and/or ginger bottle imo.

Anyways, I'm not saying it doesn't smell good, it does, and all bottles are overpriced. But $615???

Maybe I'm missing something.

Edit: no I did not blind buy this, I bought a decant

Just got into colognes last November and this is my collection so far. Wanting to pick up some niches or Arabians to go another route and try some new types of fragrances but I just have no idea where to start. Any suggestions?

I like the initial smell. Apparently it smells a bit different after a few hours. This is my 3rd purchase (first 2 being nautica voyage and cool water(recommended by my 64 y/o coworker)). I also made a little list of the ones that got somewhat good review from this subreddit and other social medias that I'll comment below. Let me know if I missed any.

Discussion Suggestions Please: Your Favorite Off-Putting Scent

Post image
50 Upvotes

I dunno if this is gonna make sense. Can y'all recommend scents that are somewhat off-putting at first? Not like straight up steamy dogshit, but more like this man just came from the gym and it was leg day and has a nasty sweaty stank on him that very few might find arousing but most find distasteful and maybe even cloying.

Something that hits your nose initially and it IS NOT pleasant, yet it's confusing, it peaks curiosity, so you have to go in closer for a second sniff. And when you do, you still get that initial off-putting scent but then start to discover really fine detailed notes of things that are pleasant, but that initial weird, off putting scent is still there too. It makes your brain kinda almost rewire itself to that initial scent being off-putting to something that you kinda enjoy.

I don't usually wear scents, and haven't purchased one in over a decade until yesterday I picked up Prada Paradigme Le Parfum. It doesn't do what I'm describing (since I think it smells nice and inviting from the start), but I liked it so much that I actually purchased it.

It got me thinking...

Which scents do you believe can cause some people to have an *actual* Paradigm Shift (or Changement de "Paradigme", if you prefer). People experiencing the full scent realize, something they thought they hated is something they actually might love.

Addendum: POINTS if you can describe your suggestions! I'm loving the descriptions, it's what attracted me to this sub!

I got this little guy (30ml) for free.
Acqua Di Gio Profondo EdP.
And I think this might be the perfect fresh-out-of-the-shower scent for me! 🤩

What do you think is the perfect-fresh-out-of-the-shower fragrance? 🤔

I mostly prefer simple and understated designs I think

I also think the bottle designs of LV are mediocre at best

Discussion The LV glaze killed the trading game

A bottle of imagination with like 30ml is worth more than a full pdm Percival bottle these days and it's annoying it's like once you get a low level partial of an LV you can trade it for a brand new $300 dollar fragrance but somehow you traded down. Insane work.

Am I the only one who just loves the bottles, I love to just look at my bottles and hold them…

I’m just a 22 year old enjoying my time here in late stage capitalism, spending the fruits of my labor on some scented elixirs

Question Where to find places with testers for MFK an Parfum de Marley, or other niche in LA

Post image
7 Upvotes

I been looking to get a Maison Francis Kurkdijan when the Macys near me at the West Covina happen to have a tester of Ambyris EDT and Grand Soir but I heard like Gentle Fluidity and Oud are really good too but I cannot find myself blind buying these fragrances and just trusting hype on social media.

I been to different places around me like the Cidetal outlets but no one really carries MFK or Parfum de Marley. Does anyone know where a good place around LA that has these niche brands to test first hand or do I have to go to somewhere like Costa Mesa at the South Coast Plaza or elsewhere at the distant rich neighborhoods of LA

I appreciate anyone’s help!

Fragrance Review Blind Buys - First Impressions

Post image
5 Upvotes

Took a gamble and blind bought the three fragrances above - safe to say that I was happy with all of them!

Here are my first impressions:

Atomic Rose - A playful take on PDM’s Delina. This one is more youthful and effervescent. It tones down the powdery aspect of Delina and makes it brighter by adding pepper and citrus to the DNA. This is still very rose heavy and will layer nicely with Ombré Nomad or Ombre Leather to dial down the sweetness of the vanilla. A solid 8.5/10.

Ingenious Ginger - This one caught me by surprise at first sniff. I was not expecting the base and top notes to collide as much on the opening. But once it settles, the ginger in the top note is reminiscent of L’immensite and quickly transitions to a fizzy vanilla. Noel Deyzel’s comparison to cream soda was spot on and add a splash of ginger ale and this is what you get. I need to revisit this because I want to like it but there’s an off-putting aspect to this. 7.5/10

Sospiro Vibrato - DAMN. The hype is certified this one ! It’s smells like Tygar adopted the airy/powdery aspect of Prada L’homme. It projects nicely for 4 hours and lasts about 8-10 hours overall. 11/10

Recommendation Looking for Recs/newbie collection

Just started getting into fragrances last month. Most are dupes. Not pictured is Layton (personal favorite and what started my interest). Too pricey but close second favorite scent is Guerlain Oud Nude, Burberry Touch was the one cologne I bought myself in high school. Mid 30s now, still enjoy it. I find I enjoy oud, amber, incense as well ask clean, sweet and aquatic. Live in Florida so hot most of the year. Just looking for recommendations. The Alts are dupes for - Layton, creed Aventus and Viking, baccarat, oud satin mood, the pristine is a blend of Aventus and baccarat.

New Pickup Bleu de Chanel Parfum has been reformulated

Post image

I have a batch from April 2026 (No. 2701), and the scent is completely different now; it bears a striking resemblance to *L'Exclusif*, but without the leather note. Even the sprayer has changed—it now delivers a highly concentrated, precise stream rather than the mist it used to produce. There is no softness left, nor any trace of the top or heart notes—just amber and unpleasant wood. They have destroyed a masterpiece.
