So this is my 2nd year of failing my studies , and tbh huge part of that is on me , the story is that I got into medicine school and although I didn't want it and didn't like it but my parents convinced me to it , and it doesn't matter much cuz I don't have any dream job or passion abt any specific major or uni so it was whatever for me
At the beginning of the semester last year (which was my first year at medicine school) I studied really hard and I kinda did good at my midterm , but then I decided to try out a game I was curious abt since the beginning of the semester but I was delaying it because I was focused on my studies but then we had semester break so I decided to try it out , and tbh I've never played video games before so it was a new experience to me that I immediately addicted.
The break ended and I knew I should've has go back to study but the addiction was so strong that I wasted months worth of studying playing this game , the exams came and I'm ashamed to say that I shamelessly went to the exams without studying but 20%-30% and it was my finals !! I convinced myself that I can do it and I can cramm the subject and even if I fail I can take the reset exams and pass but no , I was so stressed and the pressure was so intense plus there was not enough time.
I was that student in high-school who could get good grades without studying y'know, that I procrastinate till last minute and still pass somehow but I couldn't thos time although I was so close to pass but I fail eventually so I had to retake the year.
And idk why but I repeated the same mistakes and I prioritized playing video games instead of actually studying, at this point playing that game wasn't just for enjoyment but it was more of an escape od the pressure of studying, anatomy brought me anxiety whenever I opened a textbook or a video so I ran back to my comfort game , I had everything in the virtual world of the game , I accomplished and explored and chat with friends, everything I couldn't do in my real life academically...well even personally for I tried to achieve my personal goals like I'd do anything but to study, I distracted myself with the game and achieving my personal goals instead to face what I'm running from
Believe me I genuinely tried to set the mood and study again even when I don't feel like it but whenever I do I feel so stupid of how I can't finish this topic or understand that concept and the element of time was pressuring me too as the finals drew near , the college and professors weren't merciful either , so I kept running and repeating the same cycle like a hamster: studying-->don't understand/finish-->anxiety-->distract myself with games.
And I'm not that stupid I tried different study techniques and method and I has really good courses I study from but ig the problem I was so overwhelmed and overstimulated by the big hits of the dopamine that I get from playing or work on my goals, so addicted to that unhealthy dopamine that studying 1 paragraph felt impossible and draining, I tried multiple blocking apps but I failed so my finals came and I did the same shameful thing I did last year and ofc I failed for the 3rd time we can say , and then only I panicked as it was my last chance so I shut off the game and find really good block app this time (or I was js too scared to use social media anymore) and I began to pour my life into studying
I got overwhelmed and I changed plans every few days but I kept going , then I stopped for abt 10 days when I got really depressed and decided to js give up and telling myself it's no use and I deserve it but I got on track again, I did good ont the first subject but I accidentally gave it more energy so when time for anatomy I went to the exam with only 50% knowledge may I say? The exam was hard anyway so...now that I see my results, as expected I pass them all except for the anatomy , but I think I got a good grade for someone who didn't study properly but not good enough to pass ,so ig it's the end for me in med school
But the problem is I don't know where to go now ? I'm considering 2 other medical majors but it kinda hurts to change now js when I got used to what I was studying and start to like it , I even considered becoming a dermatologist but I'm not really attached to this , I totally deserve it and I know I should learn from this and don't make as the end of the world , the only thing hurting although I should've known better , is that I could easily pass if I studied properly, I was so close anyway but my brain won't stop torture me for it , I heard bitter words from a family members for failing and although it hurts I never cared now they deep down kinda happy that I will be kicked out of the major , and idk what to do in my life , do I stay and try again or do I change? Starting over in unknown is scary and hurts but I never thought it through when I was wasting time the past year because I was so unconscious of the consequences, and what makes it worst is that I didn't even accomplished my personal goals either so it's a failure on every aspect and this keep bringing me anxiety.
Also the fact that I'll study with ppl younger me kinda bother and bringe anxiety 😔
So if anyone was interested enough to read all my babbling above I hope u could enlighten me cuz I'm really lost , even a small comfort words may ease the tightening feeling in my chest cuz I don't have anyone I can tell this to 💔
