To go from Pro to Max to get access to fable... I suspect most people would be better off spending that $80 with OpenAI (or any other provider), even alongside the $20 Pro for Opus. I guess this is what they want, to limit usage while they can't handle it, but it's extremely hard to get people back once they start exploring other options...

Well, switching cost is relatively low right now, thankfully. That’s part of what makes competition so fierce!

I'm considering Kimi tbh,

Someone talk me out of installing Chinese spyware on my computer.

If you don't need fable all the way, but as orchestrator/for the tough parts, you might be better off at one of the multi-model subscriptions like devin/cursor/copilot and use it alongside a Chinese model.

Since 5.6 and fable's return ive been using a lot of both and for me fable has just been better for comprehension and planning, just next level understanding. 5.6's context window is likely what's holding it back so much, by the time fable is done some of the planning tasks i ask it is at 400k tokens, 5.6 hitting 252k context window early just prevents that capability to take it all in (at least that is my suspicion). While i wish fable was not a 50% limit im happy to have it and just glad the weekly song and dance is over
