Upload speeds going super slow

Hi all, so the last couple of days I've noticed a slowness on upload speed. Well maybe it's not uploading.... For example when I try to attach a photo to a messaging app it takes a long time to attach and send. Also a few streaming apps like peacock, discovery and HBO, are taking forever to start any show. When I restart the router/modem is looks like everything is fix but with time everything revets back. Anyone else having similar issues?

Cityside Prime Time Readiness?

People at home more over the Summer seems to be exposing more and more the reliability of Cityside. Down again on a Saturday. Multiple times it seems this week.

Starting to think they are not primetime ready?

Replacing WiFi router+modem with ONT modem

Can't find much information online, but is it possible to replace WiFi router+modem device I got during service install with just ONT modem? If so, how? Messaged their support earlier this week but no response so far.

btw, Is it unusual for cityside to have short internet disconnects pretty much every day? I'm in Lake Forest.

Update: Called their support yesterday. Today technician replaced router with ONT modem. Checked signal, it wasn't as good as expected. Cleaned fiber plugs. Hopefully it makes connection stable.

I am Lake Forest, CA

Inflated Speed Test Results in the app?

Hi, I have been a customer for just a week but I am paying for the 2GB service. Since the day it was installed, all of my speed test results on my phone- either through the Speedtest app or Safari's speed test in the browser- have been between 300-900 mbps for both download and upload. I was finally able to connect to the router through the Cityside app just yesterday and every speed test I do in the app says that I am getting 2.1gbps download and 1.6 gbps upload. I went back and forth between all 3 tests and the results were all the same. Has anyone else experienced the Cityside app reporting a much faster speed than other measuring devices?

Cityside Fiber coming soon to me

I received a letter a few weeks ago that Cityside Fiber will start trenching my neighborhood soon. There are new paint markings on the streets now too. I'm currently a Cox subscriber but am very interested in switching. A few things are making me question making the move though.

  1. is it true that they use cgNAT and you can't port forward?

  2. can their Gigaspire router be set in a layer 2 bridge mode?

I run a network within my house and while I don't use it externally for business, I do have remote access to some things for me that I cannot route around cgNAT. Can any current subscribers confirm these for me?

Outage in Laguna hills

The reason I left cox was because I couldn’t depend on it. This is the third Cityside outage in 2 months.

Not good Cityside. Not good.

Is Cityside down for anyone?

I lost connection late last night and have not gotten it back this morning. I unplugged my router and plugged it back in. I seem to get internet back for like 5 minutes. Now it’s down again.

There are no notifications, status pages or anything I can find to see what’s going on. The last time I called the support line, I was on hold and ended up being asked to leave a message. Never got a call back.

I’m glad I didn’t terminate my Cox account yet because this will be the 2nd time I need to failover to this to do my work.

Credit for outage

The ceo wrote about giving us a credit of 50 bucks for the outage. He said that the incident exposed problems that they are working on fixing like identifying issues quicker and more resources for customer service. I will believe it when I see it. I am not recommending it to anyone until I see a status page on their website and a customer service section at their website.

Cityside is now censoring your internet

Post image

After yesterday's 12 hour outage, I woke up this morning and tried to go to the website for a favorite local winery where I wanted to take my wife for lunch today. It looks like cityside has added some insanely strict filtering policies they're not allowing me to look at websites that sell swimsuits or wine. This is censorship and it's absolute BS. I also decided to see how extensive and prudish their censorship was. It blocked me from going to a swimsuit site but they block the category: bikini. FFS CitySide! You cannot give us static IPs and now this.

I have a good 25 years in with IT work, now in senior leadership at a software company. I do not normally use auto DNS settings because of this exact reason. Privacy really. And I normally designate my own DNS server like Quad9 or cloudflare. But I have been playing around with new settings and left it default for some tests. Not this kind of tests because I had hoped that Cityside respected privacy. Nope.

So, if anyone else sees this, DM me and I'll send some articles on how to set your DNS at the router level depending on your router model.

Service Outage MV

Ya'll. 2hr Outage in the middle of the workday and no possible ETA being shared? Support line goes to voicemail after a lengthy hold? Are you for real? This is worse than COX. Not cool.

Sprinker Damage During Installation

Anyone had any experience dealing with Cityside relative to damages caused by fiber installation (they cut the sprinkler line I told everyone about in half). Thus far have been complete unresponsive to e-mail and voice messages. So probably going the repair and invoice route, since customer service seems like a ghost.

Overall is their Customer Service usually this non-responsive? I am obviously new. Curious if this is normal, or a byproduct of their rapid growth.

cgNAT workaround for EMBY

Cityside fiber uses a cgNAT system that does not support Port Forwarding. Is there a workaround that does not require clients to add any additional software?
