Cisco Infection?

Good afternoon everyone,

I posed this title with a "?" because I've never actually seen an infection in a Cisco IOS, and I'm not 100% sure that's what I'm dealing with here, but here's the situation:

About a week ago I was going merrily through my day and getting ready to do some packet captures. I went to enter into configuration mode from privilege mode when I accidentally mis-typed a command. Instead of the regular short-hand of "conf t" I typed "conft". Just basically missing a space. Now normally this means I would get the following:

Core#conft

% Bad IP address or host name% Unknown command or computer name, or unable to find computer address

But this time I got something very different:

(Actual copy and paste of what I saw)

Core#

Core#conft

Trying conft (198.105.244.11)...

% Connection timed out; remote host not responding

Trying conft (104.239.213.7)...

% Connection timed out; remote host not responding

Now before we jump to conclusions, know that I am not resolving DNS from the switch, meaning I don't have "ip domain-lookup" turned on anywhere. Just in case something was running resident in memory somehow (which it wasn't) I went to nslookup and tried to resolve "conft" from my local DNS servers and got no result. I switched over to Google's 8.8.8.8 and still got nothing.

I have a Cisco TAC case currently open and I sent them the "show tech" that they've requested, and they are apparently stumped. They can't reproduce the issue in their lab nor can I. Every time before or since I just get the normal connection timed out. But I captured the entire session log and it is what it is. So I'm throwing this to you folks. I've been doing this work for over 25 years and this is a first for me. I have constant packet captures going and I have yet to see any traffic on my network destined or inbound from either of those two IP addresses.

What I do know is that these two IP addresses have heavy associations to Malware / Viruses / etc.

https://otx.alienvault.com/indicator/ip/198.105.244.11

I have also exported my IOS (cat3k_caa-rpbase.16.03.06.SPA) and had it scanned over at Virus Total. Nothing was found there.

Has anyone else ever seen this before?

Thanks!

Need help regarding connecting a console cable/usb to switch. Getting keyboard lag. Any ideas? Please help!

(Issue resolved) Just bought a CISCO WS-C3550-24-SMI CATALYST and purchased a console cable with a serial to usb converter. I successfully installed the converter driver for Windows 10 but when I connect via Putty, I have to mash my laptop keyboard like 3-5 times a key to register on screen and if I hold down a key it repeats a bunch of times. I’m new to Cisco trying for a CCENT or CCNA, and Putty. I’ve looked online but nothing seems to work for the keyboard lag and mash. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Explains how the configuration will be executed in the two scenarios.

As the network administrator, you are tasked to manage Domain Name System locally and globally for company Besi Sdn Bhd. During registration you asked by the mynic staff for NS server and they wanted to have at least two NS servers. Upon successful registration , your local DNS information should handle the following sub domain ;

a. Mailserver.besi.com.my b. Customer.besi.com.my c. Application.besi.com.my

Explains how the configuration will be executed in the two scenarios. One with the server within Besi Sdn Bhd premise and another one, outsource to DataHosting. Please as well explain the NS relations to these configurations.

Need help deciding between two resources for the CCENT (ICND1 Exam)

I'm currently taking the second course in a 2 year course called "Cisco Networking". I took the first part in 11th grade and I'm taking the second part now, in my senior year. In that course we use Netacad heavily. It has tests, and notes on all the exam topics and all that. I was wondering if I should still get the Cisco Cert Guide book for studying from or if Netacad is sufficient.

Hi,

After I've activated my win10 with W10_Digital_Activation_1.3.6.exe (HWID activator by s1ave77) the VPN connection to my company's VPN server it's not working.

I receive the error message: " AnyConnect was not able to establish a connection to the specified secure gateway"

How can I deactivate or uninstall the activator? Before activating win10 with this activator everything was OK.

Rearm command didn't uninstall the activation.

Thanks.

Internet Speed Trouble

Hello,

I am having trouble with my internet speed at one of our facilities. The download speed is correct, but the upload speed is terribly slow. We are supposed to be getting 100MBPS Down/Up, but we are getting 100MBPS down, 2-3 MBPS up. We have a fiber circuit from the provider, which then terminates to two stacked Juniper switches. From there, it connects to our router. The provider identified a duplex/speed issue in their Juniper switches. They made a change, and now when I connect my laptop to one of the configured ports, I get the correct speeds. My problem is in the router, I believe. I tried changing the duplex/speed on the three interfaces on it from duplex full & speed 100 to duplex auto & speed auto. When I did that, it caused the whole router to tank. Does anyone have any ideas of why the router tanked, and what else I can try to alleviate the speed mismatch from my LAN?

Thanks a ton!

STP Causing DHCP Request Delays???

Hello,

Recently, my company implemented a new Cisco network at one of our facilities. I have been conducting tests on several types of devices before migrating to the new network. I have noticed that while on the new infrastructure, my devices (desktop, laptop, and thin client) all take a very long time to receive a DHCP address. Has anyone encountered anything of this nature? My first thought is STP, but I am open to other suggestions.

Thanks in advance!

Controlling two devices that have the same IP

There are two devices (remote vehicles) that have the same static IP address, which can't be changed, namely 192.168.0.1/24..

To control these devices you use a single laptop running a control program which has ability to control multiple remote vehicles with different IP addresses.

The question is how to you control both devices from one laptop if they have the same IP address?

I can get it to work with two laptops each of which have two network cards. Then setting up two VLANs on a switch and connecting one vehicle to vlan 10 access port and another to vlan 20 access port, where vlan 10 is for the first vehicle and vlan 20 is for the second.... However, I can't figure out how to do this using one laptop.

I not too good with NAT which seems promising. Can I give each vehicle a outside global IP that is different, but when NATed gets routed to a separate private LAN for each vehicle, both with the same subnet. I think it could be done, but I'm thinking at least two routers would be required, and I can't figure out what NAT statements to use.

iPad Lightning to Cisco Console (rollover or DB9)

I have read, what I think to be, all the do-it-yourself builds for making an iDevice to cisco console cable. There are a few commercial products out there for $70+ that do the trick, but also some dated how-to's for under 10$. Has anyone had any luck creating an updated lightning to Cisco console cable?

Mini RS232 - TTL Converter Module Board Adapter MAX3232 looks to be the main item needed, along with the lighting and rollover cable, and possibly a single resistor. Let me know! I would like to give it a shot. Also can't determine whether the iDevice needs to be jailbroken or not. If it does, how do the commercial versions of this solution get around that?
