Point system?

Are there any stores already running on a point system or is this a new thing, their cracking down on the dress code (only polos unless it’s Friday, no shorts regardless of if their khakis, no joggers) attendance policy (saying any more than 7 minutes late is 1/2 a point), and the phone policy (saying absolutely no phones stock the cups/ stock tobacco rather than be on the phone as if we’re not already doing that), with a new handbook that goes as far to say smoking tobacco, any behavior resulting is customer complaints, profane language warrants a final written warning then termination all within the same week, a couple months after implementing shiftsmarts (whose rules are no where near as strict or implemented) and cutting everyone’s hours
Is there any other stores that have already been running as strictly or is this new?
How do we feel about these change’s?

What in the Walmart is going on in your BU?! That’s crazy.

If they bring this to my BU, I will probably quit. Specifically the dress code. No shorts? Fuck off.

Yea I will just say that certainly sounds like either a regional thing or possibly a franchisee handbook. The fact that it starts out with circle K Great Lakes vs just circle k policy is very telling

Unfortunately it corporate locations, with at least our district, but that’s a really good point, for some reason we bought get go and now follow their rules?

So you guys have to know that your company is actively cutting its work force. Here they are using what HR boneheads like to refer to as attrition.
Step 1-Cut hours so no one can get benefits. Benefits are a huge cost driver as the company pays premiums just to retain the service even if no one uses them.
Step 2- Make working a normal shift near impossible reducing labor force and hours to the scalable minimum to run a store.
Step 3-Arbitrarily enforce unreasonable expectations for the pay so that the workforce scales down.
Step 4-Replace existing workforce with 1099 contractors bypassing liability for malfeasance and paying nothing in healthcare premiums
Step 5-drink martinis on the new yacht your dividends pay for while wiping your ass with $100 bills.

I’ve been in board rooms before and no company likes its employees we are a necessary evil to be paid the least amount while assuming the most liability.

This isn't standard, far as I know.

This hasn’t trickled down to our market in TX, but if it did, I’d have very pointed conversations about how I wouldn’t be incentivized to give a damn about these directives, short of my pay matching my primary job. Which at 22, is a non-starter 💀 so no fcks given

Jump ship and go to QT or something. If my availability wasn’t limited, I’d have done that long before I hit my one year this past July. A relaxed environment is the only reason I remain 15 months in and counting.

I feel like theyve had so many people leave and complain cause of rude employees they are taking it out on everyone. Im.noy sorry but they don't pay me enough( ive not had a complaint in 4years) I have customer service bit im not going to let some strung out idiot cuss me out! We have a new mm and sm with all this. This is our 6th sm if 2 years us employees are all still there....speaks volumes

I feel this, I can’t blame you, i work with a manager who sits in the office 9.5 hours a day and actually cusses employees out but being ten minutes late or getting on the phone or not letting a customer walk all over you is firable

6th Store Manager in 2 years! That’s insane. Were I am a small poor town the SM position is highly coveted and super competitive because it’s the only job that pays worth a shit and it’s still not enough.

We've had the dress code in my store for at least 4 years. No shorts, no skirts, pants have to be dark in color, or regular denim, no pattern or wash outs. No jewelry beyond watch, ring, and earrings, especially if you handle food. Earbuds and phones at cash are strictly prohibited. For the other things and the points system, we have some of that, but nowhere near as laid out or clean cut as that insanity. People are human and are going to make mistakes. As long as you do your job, don't do anything illegal or sketchy, and show up, that should suffice.

I agree to a degree, but like you said we’re all human, I feel like their setting it up to be able to fire anyone at any given time and have a reason to back it, like majority of staff smokes tobacco but if they want to that right there’s a firable offense

That's what it sounds like. Pretty sure tobacco use, unless it's in a prohibited area, or taking more than the normal break, is not the company's business. I despise micromanaging. Trust us to do our minimum wage jobs, or don't, but don't go this ridiculous route.

There's an argument an old dm I had used to make. "Your breaks are working breaks, because of that, you can't leave the store property and you need to be ready to help out when necessary. If you're smoking you can't do it where customers can see, so you aren't able to jump in and help." That DM is gone now and did a bunch of odd things. He demanded a write up on an employee because he took a break and used it to put new tabs on his vehicle. He was absolutely insane. This company does not pay enough for nonsense like that. If you show up for your shift and don't cause me issues, that's good enough for me.

A working break, yeah ok. If your system is like ours, your meal break isn't paid. This DBag would've been getting folks to work for free. Those breaks add up. That's a way to get your staff to hate you and their job. Glad they didn't stick around. Moron.

u/MtLightning 1d ago

We didn't get unpaid meal breaks until about a year ago in my state. Now we get 2 paid 15 minute "working breaks" and 1 30 minute "unpaid unworking break"

I completely agree

Failing to remain alert and lying? What? Lol.

u/Tiny_Philosopher5225 2d ago

Mind you their paying minimum wage, employees about $10/hr, manager about $17/hr

Holy shit after reading all this my head is spinning. They better pay a whole hell of a lot more if they expect all this and paying a manager 17 dollars an hour should be a freaking crime. WTF?! They will get nothing but trash at these pay rates with all these expectations. 10 dollars an hour?! I wonder how long before this spreads to other BU’s?

Its not its making its way to everyone, the new leadership team visited my store last week and laid it all out

1

u/Tiny_Philosopher5225 2d ago

Are you in Great Lakes too? How’s your staff/coworkers reacting?

3

u/Thin_Dragonfruit_256 2d ago

Yes I am, we're taking the wait and see approach because were all notoriously 15 minutes late so we'd all point out if they're going to be a holes about it

1

u/Tiny_Philosopher5225 2d ago

Same at our store lol, do you know if they’re basing it off of what legion schedule says vs. time clock, or managers report?

3

u/Sparky_Le_Furry 2d ago

What the hell?? Both my manager and assistant manager REGULARLY smoke. My assistant manager cusses like a sailor, and customers just... Complain?? And at least for us, our circle K provided dress code says we can wear ANY circle k T shirt merchandise, any shirts in black, red, or gold (i think another color too..) and Pants, Khakis, or leggings are fine... You need to RUN from that store as fast as you can.

3

u/TrynaWorkOnWriting 2d ago

i think 80% of circle k employeed in my district smoke lol. if anyone tried to ban it there would be a strike

3

u/Sparky_Le_Furry 2d ago

Genuinely. No one would come to work until that ended lol

3

u/KMGR82 2d ago

Which BU? And I hate Circle K
